I am looking forward to the game this weekend vs sydney , it was good to see some polynesian kids playing for Auckland.
 I might take my grandson to the south stand, cheap tickets. 
 he likes football at school  and league,  but hes shy, i reckon it will be cool for him to see people who look like him.
a little bit different from glenora bears but all goods! 
are you fellas going to come here for the wellington v auckland game?

Love this post. Get your grandson to google Wynton Alan Whai  Rufer and Winston Wiremu Reid (part owner now of Auckland FC). Two guys of Maori heritage who did big things in football overseas.

Or Bill Poni Tuiloma and Michael Joseph Boxall, two guys raised in Auckland of Samoan descent playing the highest level football in the USA. Or Marko Seufatu Nikola Stamenic who has Samoan heritage (photo below wearing a Ula lole after a NZ game), was raised in Wellington and is now signed with English Premier League club Nottingham Forest

But yeah there is nothing better for young kids to see their heroes and role models live. Get a selfie, an autograph, see them up close in the flesh. As grandad Paddy says 'people who look like me'!. And that's why it's great having a 2nd NZ team, with some Island/Maori heritage guys like Hall, Howieson, Mata and Rogerson. If they inspire kids to have a crack at football/ soccer, all cool stuff. Thanks for sharing Paddy.

And Paddy here is a nice story about Dan Hall, who has Fijian heritage but was adopted out and raised in Australia by his adoptive white parents. It's a super cool yarn.

It's really all about yeah young kids getting a buzz about seeing heroes that look like them.

Yeah but reading that article, Speedway has no future at Western Springs. 

The National body may wish to continue there, but the promoters who organise and pay for the events don't. They lose money being at WS, with all the noise restrictions they have to operate under. Plus their lease with Council at WS is ending. The National body may try & fight to stay, but seems they don't run the actual events - it's just stubborning trying to hang on by your fingernails, when all logic says it's time to say goodbye.

Yep, the article seemed to say that. I was surprised that even given inevitably that they’d gone meekly, mentioned at the bottom of a letter! And now, not so.

i went to kelston boys way back in the late 70's only for 3rd form before my parents decided we were moving to upper hutt. our football team were reasonable back then, also played for kelston west as a kid good times

Depending on subject matter they to can be slow but not really surprising as there arnt that many actually in the Phoenix office. Compared to Auckland the Phoenix operate on a shoe string. Also dont think its the Phoenix that should be driving any honoring of Chris as much as i thank him greatly for the work he put in.

I’m going to say AFC remain undefeated after Sunday, and Wellington to get another draw against Perth. They won’t be happy with letting 6 past them last week, and Ollie will be well up for it

2-1 Phoenix, Glory to score a worldy out of nowhere.

3-2 Sydney. Auckland will get a couple of goals against Sydney’s somewhat inexperienced defence but their front 6 will be too strong for AFC.

Hard to say. Both Kiwi teams lacking an in form goal scorer (outside Rogerson!). 

Phoenix should beat Perth, but it’s always a difficult place to travel with the climate and time difference. That said, Perth is weak and even with a reaction, we’d expect the Phoenix to dig deep and get the win. Still early days in the league for our new imports. 

Similarly for Auckland it’s hard to say. They’ve got one new guy potentially coming in, and the other imports may begin to show more. 

Sakai and De Vries, with Elliot on the bench is possibly the strongest attacking FB roster. Both starters are too good for the league, really.

I’m interested in seeing if Max Mata gets minutes. He’s more than capable of getting on the end of some delivery. And I’d be happy for him too to find some A league form. 

Perhaps Sydney may be tired, but they usually come at you very hard in a press and don’t let up until they’re right on top of the game. This will be a real test for Hall and Pijnaker and the midfield. Paulsen will remember what it’s like. 

This will be a much better test for FC than Brisbane and we’ll see how much work they have to do by the end of the game. Though it is early season with plenty of time to come.

I’d be surprised, but not shocked if Auckland win. Auckland have quality players, but Sydney already seem to be one of the teams to beat.
