I think that is excellent news for FDV - every club needs a key player that is there year in year out if fit / available, and it means he and his Swedish partner can finally buy a house :-)

Brook signed a three-year deal initially. Him and Brimmer are contracted through June 2028 and de Vries now through June 2029. Cosgrove, Elliot, Pijnaker, Rogerson and Woud are contracted through June 2027. The rest are off contract at the end of this season.

They might be top of the table but on recent form the wheels are falling off big time, and that won't help attendances either

Woud singlehandedly fudgeing my tipping on that one - Auckland by 1.

On the other hand though, that's a little bit of comedic relief for a Saturday night given we were pumped not even 24 hours ago.

Absolute clown show at Mt Smart tonight, probably the most frustrated I've been at an AFC game:
  • Wasted multiple counter attacks including a 4v2 and 3v2
  • May worse game of his Auckland career
  • Cosgrove fluffing an open goal
  • Woud
  • Subs were terrible - game was screaming for a speedster like Francois to replace May. Instead we got Brimmer at left wing. All 40 minutes too late anyway
  • Not sure how it wasn't a penalty for handball?
  • Also not sure how Auckland don't get to take their free kick at the end of the game after Mariners player was carded for breaking up a counter attack
This game should've been about 7-1.

10,225 in attendance is pretty solid though.

Woud has never inspired me with confidence and nothing about that performance changes my opinion. But Auckland had so many chances to kill the game off and failed to do so, so there's blame at both ends of the pitch.  CCM really weren't in it at all so they probably can't believe their luck in getting a point.

So AFC only one win in the last five games. They always start well, score first and then go into their shells and invite the opposition back into the game. The two games against Sydney will be key for their season. LOL Woud...

He will be very gutted. He's likely handed Sail the no 1 GK spot at AFC for the rest of the season.

Woud had also got himself back in AWs calculations.
Can see either of Sims or Gray being left in Europe for the March window.

The new Swedish Allsvenskan season starts early April, immediately post the March FIFA window. It's likely best Sims stays in Sweden to fight for the starter's role as GAIS. Whilst L2 (Gray) plays through FIFA windows.

Woud being based down under in the ALM could have got the AWs call up as 3rd GK. Not now, and thus ends his outsider World Cup hopes..

It took a bit longer then I envisaged for a major calamity but pleased it has shown up now rather then the business end of the season.

Throwing the ball into his net, literally.

Sail isn’t a great or even good keeper but he is adequate and doesn’t make me nervous that he will have calamities.

I've never been a fan of Woud personally, but I think he's been serviceable in the A-League up until the last couple of games where mistakes have cost them 3 points - He should have come for that ball v City that lead to them taking the lead, and any keeper worth his salt would have cleaned up that cross into the near post yesterday, regardless of the fairly average conditions down that end of the Mt Smart pitch.

I said at the start of the season that the goalkeeping situation up north will cost them points, and although it's taken a while for it to all unfold, the couple of mistakes + the teams recent form (5 points from 15 now) heavily amplifies the scrutiny on Woud's position between the sticks from here on out.

Do I think Sail is the answer? Not necessarily, given his tendencies to produce some absolutely whopping howlers as well, but they're almost backed into a corner here given how the past couple of weeks have played out.

The Paulsen effect is in full swing here too - We suffered it after he left us in Wellington - whereby every keeper that pulls on that #1 shirt after him will be scrutinized, analyzed and even villainized as though he were AP himself. This is perhaps a little unfair to those coming in after him given Paulsen was a generational keeper in this league, and by far and away several levels ahead of where Woud or Sail will ever reach. But in the end it doesn't matter which of the two will be in goal for the next match or beyond, whether it's Woud or now possibly Sail - The increased level of scrutiny will linger over whoever gets the gloves.

Good luck to whoever it is having to deal with that comparison, and then having to go out and uphold that expected level of quality week in, week out. 😬

I mean far be it from me to defend Mr.  Michael ‘Mongrel’ Woud, playing for the Real Madrid/Barcelona hybrid never before seen in A league, and agree with the match officials while trusting my own eye sight sufficiently to disagree with you, but he spills the ball over his shoulder behind him, turns around and grabs at it and it bounces on the line.
Two Auckland defenders attempt to clear it, with Pijnaker perhaps getting a touch before a CC player turns it home.

AFC 5 points from the last 5 games. Nix 7 points from their last 5 games
Who has got the biggest budget and the most stacked squad? Welcome to AL reality AFC. This season they are not scoring the miracle 90th minute goals, the long range bangers are not going in and the water tight defense is showing signs of leaking. Plus they cant decide if their attack is lots of little fast guys or lumping it into a 6ft 5inch inert statue. The wheels are not exactly falling off but they are creaking

If anything, it shows how important is Sakai to the A-FC.  Somehow his absence is felt in other places on the pitch too. Elliot can run upfield for sure, but the precision diagonal pass from Sakai while running full speed is a thing of beauty and hard to replicate.

You’ve read her prose style before, right?

But also, the Nix’s highest season average attendance is still the first one iirc. There’s a novelty factor and in your case a long honeymoon period, but this is really your first blip longer than 2 games right? Guess it’ll probably settle to a core at some point.

It’s a pity Western Springs couldn’t go ahead. A nice 15k to 20k seater would rock and also create some scarcity.

Auckland are yet to have a single home game with an attendance lower than 10k.

They also have the highest total attendance and highest average attendance this season.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with Auckland attendances this season.
