Mirjan Pavlovic

I do wonder if the Phoenix paid out the remainder of Mirjan's contract, or, as the term 'mutual consent' is generally used, Mirjan has agreed to forgo some if not all of the remainder of his contract. I hope that whatever Mirjan is going through that the Phoenix honoured the remainder of the contract as it seems, and what we have been lead to believe "Mirjan Pavlovic (medical condition – indefinite)" every week, that it may be some time until he is able to play professionally again. IMHO the Phoenix has come across a little heartless in this situation, in the initial press release highlighting the medical condition there was not a "we hope for a speedy recovery" or a "our thoughts are with him during this difficult time":

Wellington Phoenix footballer Mirjan Pavlovic has a medical condition which restricts his ability to play professional football. The club will be making no further comment on this till such time as the condition is resolved

The whole situation, I feel, could have been handled a little better.

That's what makes me think its something the nix weren't happy with. Also the condition that didnt allow him to play football proffessionally, followed by the recent wishing him well in his career. it is oddly inconsistent, and quite cold. That is pure speculation however. They could have just been deliberately vague so as to give no clue away.

Not sure why some of you feel the need to be advised of the reason why.His contract is over end of.Has nothing what so ever to do with any of us and some of you are really sick FKRs.

Why is it sick to be curious about a strange occurrence? Nobody is demanding to be told what happened.

Clearly there is something out of the ordinary going on here but some people here should get a grip and show him some respect - especially without any facts. Let the guy be. He may not have been our gun australain striker but don't kick him when he is down.

Who says he's down? You can't say that without facts either.

You want people to act like his contract is just terminated,in which case people are fine to voice their opinion on him as a player.

The fact that all of this is strange has obviously gotten people curious. There's nothing wrong with that either.

I don't think this is a career advancement Tegal. Do you think he's signed for Man U or something?

Seems a little off to me.

No mention at all of his medical condition in the release. You'd think that they would say he can not play and has chosen to stay at home.

I'm allowed to be cynical with this one, think he's one hundred percent fine, and hope he can find a deal in asia with Daniel. I wish him the best of luck!

Uhh I never said that. I said that we don't know what's happened other than his contract has been terminated.

I have it on good authority that the medical condition has been confirmed as two left feet.

Same thing? I mean sure there have been some talented footballers who have looked crap until they have "adjusted" but that is not the case here.
So what is the difference between consistently "not cutting it" and just being rubbish?

Quite a bit I suggest. So you are good at the level below this (Aust League) but cant make it here. That doesnt make you "rubbish." Says more about the writer in my view, and kicking a man when he is down

This. Clearly he isn't rubbish, it's like the theory I've heard before, if Pav went to your school he'd most likely be one of the best players in school history. Failing in the A-League doesn't mean that you're terrible, you've done extremely well to get to that point to begin with.
Gotta disagree with you there. Firstly A-league (and up) is the only level that counts, of you don't succeed there you can be adequately described as rubbish. Hell I kicked ass at 8-a-side but I don't go round claiming that I'm any good at any higher level. The only relevant context in which we can determine talent is the professional one, how well you perform in some other context (the school) is irrelevant to how good of a professional footballer you are. I don't want to kick anyone while their down but today's press release does not change my opinion of his performances for the Phoenix, moreover I don't think Pav will be reading this so will be unaffected by our comments.
I think our disagreement stems from the strong use of language. "Rubbish" is a strong word to describe his abilities as a footballer especially in a wider context.
Perhaps we can agree that he was "inadequately talented" as a professional footballer?

"Yellow Fever are fantastic – I have to say that"

I would agree he was absolute rubbish, though I also heard that the man himself thought he was rather good. So, delusional AND rubbish.

Strong this. Pretty disappointed at a lot of the stirring going on in here. I dont know why, when the club and everyone want to keep it private, and say its sensitive, you lot feel for some reason that its your right to know whats going on, when its not.

I hear the doompost are opening up some internships, maybe a few of you should sign up??

Nobody says its their right to know what's going on. They're just commenting on how he was a footballer and how his leaving as strange.

Fairly predicable given how the club have handled it.

Likewise!
Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

highlights from the NSWPL looked good, could have enjoyed the new playing style this year, working with Steiny et al...Still wasn't able to offer much while he was here, never really came good on his promise to score a bagfull despite a few moments, was signed on the basis that he managed to hold the ball up playing back to goal against Bocca Juniors.

All the best.

Possibly marginally better than Troy Hearfield!

Pav also made a joke on his status saying playing under one of his friends would be a "step forward" rather than under Herbert..

I think perhaps not disclosing the reasons behind his contract being terminated could be detrimental to his career..

Because now it could be anything - and any potential employer would think "hmmmm maybe I like the kid - but he has this mystery condition which prevents him from playing football professionally, so here I go and sign Leilei Gao instead".

Whereas if they did know what was wrong with him - and wanted to sign him still - they could have an idea of what they're buying into.

Finally, I personally don't buy into this moralistic crap I've been reading. In my book when you choose to become a professional footballer - this is part of what you get. And the circumstances around his contract being terminated are weird at best, so I don't see why we can't be curious.

No reason at all why we can't speculate.

I fear it is something less scandalous unfortunately... my two cents said he hated it here, he thinks he's better than he is, so he expected more opportunity from Ricki but didn't get it. He enjoyed chilling with his mates and banging about in Sydney, so he rang up and said I don't wanna come back. Phoenix p*ssed off but happy they don't have to pay him anymore, contract terminated, and also explains the nature of the released statements. Win/win for both parties then?

No reason at all why we can't speculate you say? You need look no further than your own shite you continued on with - which is exactly why we shouldnt speculate (ie. being completely and utterly incorrect).

Have some respect and show some compassion ffs. What kind of a supporter are you anyway making these kinds of assumptions of a player without knowing jack shit? A player you dont even personally know, yet you attack his character and integrity? Youre a disgrace.

It's just that the club comes across,IMHO, cold and heartless when they are saying that Pav has a medical condition making him unable to play football and inadvertently suggesting that the remainder of his contract is available for a replacement player.

So, we have a (former) player with a medical condition that now appears to have no income. In most instances a player would be covered by insurance and the club would be under no major financial burden to keep him contracted and still be able to use the remainder of his contract on an injury replacement player i.e. the club is no worse off and Pav is still able to get paid the remainder of his contract.

I hope whatever Pav is going through that it gets sorted out, it's just strange that the way the club is portraying it that they should have shown more support - IMHO.

double standards from those calling for zero speculation.

Unless we want to start banning/ removing a comment whenever we refer to a player as a donkey or thug because be don't actually know jack shit or know the players personally.

I dont think he had a medical condition that pervented him from playing football persoanlly
