Some of you guys are seriously pathetic

I think some people are just angry and not thinking before they post (hardly new).

El**ch was MY hero but I had no problem booing him or with him on the bench.

This is going to hurt us big time for the rest of the season...our only potent attacker drifting through until the end of his contract. He is hardly likely to be 100% fired up for the phoenix now is he. Thats football I guess...we did the same thing with Durante( mind you that was nearly at the end of the season)

I don't want to wish bad on a player so go well Shane, you were our best an brightest. We took you from playing for some suburban pub team in some shiite hole in England and made you who you are now.  You will be soon sunning yourself in Surfers...playing for some squillionaire, earning $600 k + for the next few years. All we ask of you is to play out the rest of your time with the Phoenix in a profesional manner. We need your effort and your goals.

cant say i didnt see it coming, smeltz signing with another team

but i thought it would be in a bigger league like the championship or MLS

its looking like goldcoast are going to sign the better players from alot of a-league teams, im glad there is a salary cap!

I'm tipping Shane to have a great 2nd half of the season for us now this is confirmed, to be totally professional and to bang in a few more pearlers before he goes.

He's a legend in my world, has brought us some of the finest moments in our short history and has been brilliant for the rising profile of the Phoenix and NZ Football.

Thanks Smeltzy, I 'm guttererererdeded (that's for you News) but wish you all the best for your future and for your family on the GC......but when we play you, you'll be owned by Siggy and then we'll let the Dodd out!!!

Ohhhhh Smeltzy WE love you!!

I'm sure this is the main reason (I think I read she is an Aussie anyway, so hardly a crime to want to live in your own country I s'pose, not that I am though, but that was England!) and I'd have to say good luck to Shane and his family for the future.

But all I could think earlier when I heard the news was that it was bad enough that we only had one proven striker (in the sense of regularly scoring goals, which is all that really matters in the end for strikers). However it is so much worse to be in that position AND then to lose that one proven striker!

...let's be honest at times we're no better.

I may not like the club and the incessant talking up but some people are going to work hard to give them a credible fan base and that shouldn't be belittled.

While I don't think that we want to wish ill on any footballer I think as fans we have a right to be disappointed by the decision.  I don't begrudge him leaving I wouldn't be welcoming him back with open arms.  He's not moving to a proven side with better results, he's going to an expansion team that has no players and hasn't played a game purely for lifestyle reasons.  That to me is disappointing for someone who supposedly takes his football seriously.

can't say I'm happy about it, but then the way he played in Peth didn't exactly make me want him to stay.  I hope he does well for himself over there, I hope even more than he plays better for us in the coming months. If he doesn't do better then its time to give Draper or costa a go up front!

Yeah but zero service and being played with Cov and in a team that oozes poor morale? Hardly surprising.

Knew this was coming so why am I so gutted?

suppoed to be happy when Lochead was trialing for Mbro, supposed to be happy when, pretty much our entire strikeforce, is leaving to play for the Pimps....

Maybe this is the reason why the team has played so badly and without heart? I mean the focal point of the team is going it's bound to effect everyone? clutching at straws... ForteanTimes2008-11-05 07:41:25

That is a strike force with one striker and three wingers...
[/QUOTE]

The funny thing is News that you've been saying that for how long and people don't listen.
Kwas has been tried and failed, Draper hasn't been tried (assumption is not up it it yet), Costa has never played up front in this life and is an attaching midfielder/half and Brockie shone playing for the Knights..... and did what at Sydney?? There is only 1 striker in that lot and he is currently still in development

This is probably the most common sense post here. Yeah as fans we can be disappointed and sad about it, but angry and vilify?? Its the realities of professional sports and trashing the guy cause he has gone to another team smacks of childish petulance

Sh!tballs as, but that's football. Transfers are a reality, regardless of who you are and where you play.

Dissapointed, but got no ill will towards Smeltzy. Easily one of the standouts from our first season, been a bit off the boil recently, but pretty much still the saving grace of the team this year.

Good luck Smeltzy. Cheers for the goals, you'll be missed mate...

Lets not also forget that he's going 'home' to where he grew up... good luck to him - he's done a great job for us and far exceeded the expectations of all but a few (well, perhaps two - Ricki and himself lol) upon his return to NZ.

Lets hope he keeps performing in the White (or black, or blue, or ???) shirt and I for one hope he goes well on the Goldie - more so when he's playing in the Qld derby... and less so when he's playing the Nix!!!

So we've lost he and Dodd to GCU... what others to follow? There's NQ too lets not forget so i'd be surprised if we don't lose another couple of players yet... TP needs to begin announcing some of these re-signings he's been aluding too - and perhaps a couple of new ones moving forward...

Thanks Smeltzy - hope you bang in another ten for us this year, and you and the whanau are happy back on the Goldie

Can't blame him for leaving a team of struggling no hopers to go and play somewhere else.  It should be a wake up call.  I actually thought he could have done better for himself than that if he had played his cards right but it's obviously a good personal move for him.  Unfortunately, our crowd are too polite to boo our own players (not that I'm suggesting Smeltz should get it).  It frustrates me sometimes there have been no chants of "what a load of rubbish" even though we all know that's what we've been watching.

Not true.

He was an out and out forward for much of his youth and has generally played most of his recent football either out wide on the right (he's now generally considered a right wing) or as a striker running (very quickly) off a front man.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.
