That is an awesome thing to do. Shows the club actually listens to the fans. Only problem is, how that will be advertised. If its just on the website, and on here then majority of the people that see it will be the ones who have already resigned. Word of mouth will help, but the members who don't check the sight regularily may not be aware.

I got an email.

A txt would probably also be a good idea.

Ticket prices and way to expensive!! Surely they are better to half the price and try and full the stadium? Had season ticket last year but times are tougher, new house and all. Looks like it will be NewstalkZB and Sky for me. Very much pick and choose. Get real Phoenix and get the crowd coming again!!!

...and how do they pay the bills ?

They have a price that is frozen on last years, matches the prices for equivalent events and other clubs in the league.  Much better they halve the prices, get 500 more in and collapse in a financial heap.

It's not like the crowd flocked in when they offered cheaper seats for matches last year.

Ok, halving them is a bit over the top but something has to be done! I know plenty of people that can't justify paying the prices to attend (and after 2 years, I might now be one!). They have never come and they will continue not to come! I am not looking forward to sitting in 15% full stadium! I love football but like most at the mo, I need support to support! Pull your head in Nix.

So what is meant to happen, is Terry (a man in property - a business getting hammered as much as any) is just meant to stump up money to cover the costs of running the club and trying to sign players of a level that will win ?

Basically the club could charge less, spend less, and lose more which will stop the crowds or they could move move a little on prices (as they have done) and try and sign a squad that will be competitive in the league so people will support a winning side.

All this without allowing for the impact of the FFA and obligations on budgets that the participation agreement may specify.

Fair point. Just putting another side to the story. There are people that would support in prices where more in tune with other sports in the area. It was cheaper to follow both the Lions and the Hurricanes last year.

Maybe move to the Basin, where stadium rental might be cheaper?

It's a fair point re: rugby. Crowds are down at rugby and thats the sport that most people seem to like so how can a minority sport (in these parts at least) justify charging more?

Most of the 'stragglers' I know are rugby fans so charging them more than they'd pay for rugby to go to a sport that they are not that into (yet) isn't going to work. If going to rugby cost me more than it did to go to the football, I wouldn't go to the rugby. As it is, I go to a few games because it is pretty cheap. As I am not big on rugby, I'd say price is the #1 factor for me going to that particular sport.

Renewing a silver membership for 11 home games (not counting the 2 bonus "home / away" games) works out to be $20 per game.

We all acknowledge there will be some members whose situation has changed (e.g. worried about job security) and they won't want to / be able to outlay the $225 for a season ticket.

For others how is $20 per game to watch a professional sports team not a good price ?

Nobody "owes" Wellington the Nix - it will continue as long as we are blessed with such a passionate and supportive owner and we play our part in supporting the club - $20 per game - small price for a Wellington A-League team - get behind it.

Points.

1, The basin doesn't come close to meeting A-League requirements.
2, The Basin is used for Cricket all summer, the two are mutually exclusive.
3, Rugby is heavily subsidised by the national body and the media.  It's not close to comparing apples with apples.

The Wellington Rugby Union can walk in to sponsors knowing the media will make them a front page story if Tialata sneezes.  On top of that they get handed most of the player employment expenses by the NZRFU as well as competition promotions and everything else.

I'm not saying they have a free ride, but the comparisons with trying to run a professional football club on a shoestring, with very little media coverage, and limited support from a national body are spurious at best.

They aren't backed by the NZRFU So i guess all their revenue comes from ticket sales and selling merchandise. If you love a sport you'll go no matter what and most people in N.Z only know to love rugby as a sport, because of it's domiance over the years,so breaking that habit if you will is always going to be hard and deep down it's not really the price thats keeping them away because it isn't that much dearer in cost to buy a ticket to the phoenix as opposed to a ticket to the Hurricances

It might not be much more, but it IS more, so that's what may well be putting off a lot of the rugby fans?

Valid reasons they may be re: sponsorship etc, but this means nothing to the average punter - they see the entry price and will not consider the reasons - they will simply think it's a bit expensive and not bother. Every game being on TV simply makes matters worse in terms of trying to get people in.

I am playing devil's advocate a bit - I personally don't think it's too expensive (I am used to paying $60 a game back home and thats for 18+ home games a season), I'm just seeing it from the perspective of people here who are not strictly football fans, and it's based on things I have heard from Kiwis.

In that case ask them why when last season tickets were offered two for one for a match the crowd didn't miraculously double... in fact the increase barely blipped.

People are feeding you crap and are in fact just apathetic whiners that look for an excuse.  They'll never understand that they will get more value for money out of a Phoenix game at as much as $50 than a Rugby game at $15.

Gold Coast have done a membership package for four games of your choice for a certain amount of $. Mby the Nix could do something similar for families and supporters who kant buy/ afford a season pass????????

E.g.
Country / Interstate Membership
"Just because youre living away from the Gold Coast doesnt mean you cant support your club. If you live more than 100km from Skilled Park, this is the membership for you. Country / Interstate Membership contains entry to four games of your choice per season in Category 3 seating."

Well I know people that went to those games who wouldn't normally, I can't say what the reasons were for others.

Personally I think the 2 for 1 offers were too little, too late - they should have tried it nearer the start of the season.

Lack of advertising could be another reason?

You're preaching to the converted mate, I am just trying to think of ways of getting the crowds of season 1 back at least?

Could be an idea. Hibs offer half season tickets at xmas time back home and they always seem to sell not too badly.

Win, win pretty and watch everyone dive on the bangbus.

Cold Wednesday night for the pre-season cup final 9,500... following opening game 10,000.  Then a miserable loss in the rain to Melbourne and they were gone.

Win, and win attractively and you are away.  Compare a losing Lions side to a winning one as a sample.

The fickle nature of the general NZ sports supporter. The Nix will have to live with it for as long as the club's around for.

Hmmm that's not so promising. After placing my order three weeks ago I received a 'confirmation email' of my seats, at that time.

Then I got a call earlier this week saying that they needed my credit card number again as the order had, for some reason, been cancelled. I subsequently received another 'confirmation email' but since I haven't been charged on my credit card yet, I don't hold out much hope that anything at all has been confirmed other than the organisation's incompetence.

I must admit, that this thread is only a quarter of the length of last seasons one. which means either only a quarter of the same people are renewing/buying tickets or they are actually getting something right.

I bet you're one of those people that doesn't go to NZFC games becuase the standard is sh*t and says they should make the nzfc semi-pro and charge at the gate.

Donut.

If you can't afford to buy a season ticket because you've chucked all your clams into a mortgage then more fool you.  Doesn't mean the tickets are overpriced.  Actually they're awesome value.  Just means you need some better budgeting.

Rang ticketek today, gave my change of address. They said that the season tickets haven't been sent out yet (obviously) but when they do, they WILL be sent to the new address.

I almost laughed. But maybe I'll be surprised.

I might have to pay for an extended mail re-direct service...

I think it would be nice if you could move your stadium members tickets, which is what I've got. At the moment they don't differentiate between rugby and football, so I'm technically stuck in aisle 10 for football which is the empty side. I've rung them up to try and move them but they said I would have to move my rugby seat too and it would cost $50 for each ticket due too them having to replace each.
