I like this comment from the herald story re smeltz.

But how does he fit into our system unless he takes Watson's role... which would be a little unfair on him IMO.

Adds depth... and I guess outside of Rogerson we do not have a back up striker.

So coach to be announced today?

Was it just me or did Watson look deceptively fast on Saturday? I thought he covered a lot of ground and is starting to look the part.

Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

The A League is very physical and I would question his ability to deal with the physicality of the league.

Did pretty well against the physicality of the Island teams as well.

Erik Paartalu has left his Qatar club, we were rumoured to be chasing him in pre-season. Wonder if we still have cap space left to try for him in January?

Gotta get him. He is a big upgrade on our current DMs And very useful on corners too

So is Roly going or staying and what are the chances of someone coming knocking for Krishan... having a great season within a struggling team.

Ben liftin has been released. Seemed like a nice guy, hope he can get another shot some time. What do we do with his spot? Another mid?

Might be better just to promote youngsters if we need them.

I hope (but doubt) that OFC counts as AFC for us in this rule

3+1 ? One less import, likely to see a little bit more competition for Australian players.

with 12 exemptions for Melbourne City

“FFA has determined to move to a 4 plus 1 structure for the 2018/19 season but will prudently review the implementation to consider all relevant factors and impacts at the end of the 17/18 season,’’ said Gallop.

"The new ruling means the A-league can still have five imports but one must come from within the confines of the AFC’s members federations."

So with Roly, Roy, Rod, Rossi and the Finkler we'd have to replace one of them with an AFC import.

Roly and A-Rod contract expire end of this season. Krishna, Rossi and Finkler end of 17/18. So at least one of them will be gone by then and will have to be replaced by an AFC import.

I wonder how far away Krishnas NZ citizenship is.

Also, the biggest wave of Indian migration to Fiji was in the 70s and 80s so he might be eligible for Indian citizenship by descent. Although India doesn't allow dual citizenship there is an exception if you got the second citizenship by birth rather than choice.

This is Krishna's 4th season with us, the proposed change is in 18/19. By then he will have been at the Nix for 5 seasons, surely he would have got his citizenship by then!

Depends on what visa he is on. Has to hold a residence visa for 5 years, and being on fixed term contracts here he might only be on a series of temporary work visas. All that could be waived if he wanted to play for NZ but he can't so he would have to meet the standard requirements.

Personally I can't see Rossi or Finkler being around in that season anyway.

I'd say all of them will be gone by 17/18 except for Krishna, so we'll be ok.

I hope A-Rod sticks around, gets fast-tracked citizenship and becomes an All White
