The fist punch to the air instead of the usual wave, when called for, showed me that he was as relieved if not more that his team had finally broken through the angst and crap that had been raining down on them. call for his head now boys come on I dare ya!

Thought the fist pump was as much a sign of releif and a little lifting of the pressure as much as anything

Isnt that just another way of saying what theprof said...

A question regarding last nights win.

Was the win more about a masterstroke by Ricki, or some passion and desire finally being shown by the players?

I wouldn't say playing Muscat in front of the defence was a masterstroke, we have been wanting that for weeks.

Playing Ifil up front was a bold move, but I find it a shame that the week Greenie is dropped is the week that our midfield suddenly find the ability to pass the ball 10 yards and start playing into the strikers feet.

Still unconvinced by Ricki. Last night felt like a huge gamble that paid off as opposed to some amazing tactical plan.

Ah,the life of a football coach.

You go on a losing streak - you get criticized for not changing things up.

You change things up and win - you got lucky.

I don't think playing Ifill up front is a particularly bold move. I've thought for a while he should be playing up there.

Good on Ricki, he made changes and they worked. He deserves some credit fior that. The worst part about being a coach is that everybody watching the game thinks they can do it better than you can.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

He cant do it in real life, therefore he can't do it in FM.

Likewise,i can do it in FM therefore I can do it in real life. Simple logic, and that's why fans know they can do better than ricki.

When I was a young un, I scored a goal from inside our own half (was a defender).  I have been unable to replicate this in FIFA10.

Perhaps if I was to get FIFA11 this might be possible?

The coached changed the lineup....the team won. So credit to the coach.

But we did not play in a much more different way than usual. The 3 muscle-men in midfield bossed the opposition....just like last year. We continued to go wide most of the time and/or hit long balls.......just like last year.
The only difference was we had a striker who was big enough, strong enough and technically good enough to contest and win the crosses/longballs coming at him.

It was obvious to everyone that Greenacre(good player that he is) is not the sort of player that can play the lone striker with the tactics we use.(too small)

So it begs the question....why did it take so long to figure this out when it been bloody obvious to everyone.

weren't both Ifill's goals from passes that came to him along the ground in front of goal?

The real question here is, did you win the ACL?

Three for me, and two for them.

haha, not really, more a case of I have lost confidence in Ricki over the last few weeks, and just wondered if people saw this as him getting lucky, or actually showing some tactical brilliance.

I feel the same about Tim Brown. Top guy, but I dont think he should be starting. But he scores the odd goal and this seems to cloud everyones judgement.

read the Herald interview with Ricki - should ease all your concerns!every team needs a Tim Brown, we have the original, Ricki is as tactically brillioant as he needs to be, no team is consistant in the a-league, and only two teams travel as much as we do.

First one, maybe (although kind of a slightly lucky break rather than a pass) but the second one, not really.

I have my doubts if Greenacre would've gone on to score that 2nd one - wasn't really in front of goal since Ifill received the ball about 25 yards from goal.

So you need height to get a pass on the deck 25yds out and then shoot?

OK - conspiracy theory # 356:

Wed - team fielded was mostly the same as last year (apart from North).  Last year player comments were around the theme that the team had a good family feel - everyone helping each other out on and off the pitch.

This season - new signings.  Although we are half way through is there anything going on within the squad that stops them from playing for each other (rather than looking quite lost on the pitch and running into each other)?

When we have only scored 18 goals, I will take all the clouding that he can give my judgement!, also was he not the one who laid on Ifills second?

Signed New Zealands best midfield player ever (please name a better one I dare you) and now decided not to play him at all. Why because we play sh*t football and Simon is used to playing with a team that plays one touch football. Watch the world cup games and tell me how many times he loses the ball. Its f*ck all. Hence he was noticed by the international media as one of the stand out players in the World Cup.

Uses the excuse that the roster is full for why he didnt sign Clapham. So why did he sign Toto? He was clueless to the fact Clapham is absolute class and now its to late for him to sign him this year.

We still play the worst football in the league. Lumping it long and hoping Ifill can work some magic isnt a great strategy.

Still have an atrocious away record.

Have the second worst defence in the league, even though we have class defenders in North and Durante.

Why did he have Jeremy Christie and Mulligan ahead of Duncan Oughton in the All Whites. Duncan has been playing in a higher league than any Phoenix player for a long number of years, certainly a lot better than that crap Tampa Bay Christie plays in.

Someone please explain as I have been searching for answers.

He has no tactics, no imagination and no factor, we will never ever make the semis with this down syndrome coach leading the girls. Every other team is a mile ahead of us and anyone who thinks othererwise meet me face to face and we'll have a fist off. I HATE RICKT HERMIT and so shud all of you. Hermit must go. His imports, tactics and looks are horrifying. I just spewed up thinking about hermits face. Jeremy christie for the all whites? Nothing short of dispicable. Worst player i have ever played against or seen. Simon elliot not playing, hermits lucky i dont bottle hiim. Every other team is quicker than us and actually pass and move together as a team. Tim Brown the fittest player in the league, box to box player and who also scores must be and shud be captain / coach. Durrante overrated. Hermits tactics are playing like the under 12 womens team..we have no big strikers so why long ball into the strikers?? Hermits wrecking players careers, leo is the man but hes playing him totally wrong. Why not pick Aaron Clapham?? Carves up every national league game but doesnt get a look in. Paston great shot saver for a girl but useless on crosses, get phil imray in there, hes the best keeper in nz. Wiremu patrick the most natural talented player in nz would eat vance lia for his breakfast. I just threw up thinking aout the felix. I dread to think how bad we will be when lochface comes back. Hermits tactics are kick long then kick it out. Disgusted. Im a football hooligan and am looking for a fight with any hermit fan. Bring it on mutha f*ckas
