I think we are definitely floating but wouldn't say we were moving forward. Until we get more backroom staff and some signings to plug the gaps we aren't going anywhere.

The ship isn't sinking but we do need more fuel and more crew (e.g. a Scotty-like engineer, a Spock-like first officer and that girl from the Love Boat).

I hear you Junior, but after tonight's performance I think with or without a Scotty Ricki's got the impulse drive engaged, Greenacre's ears aren't pointy, but he's first officer material in the front end of the ship, Chief Durante's got the back end covered and Weapons Officers Ifill and Brown have their eye in,
the latter's long range photon torpedo strike ..outstanding!

ok i think it is now time we look at other options, we have a better keeper who is also a kiwi and he isnt even playing... if there a better aussie player or import sure play them.. but if there a better kiwi sitting on the bench it is obvious they should be playing..... ricky doesnt accept change and wont change things unless he has to.....   not good enough for a coach at this level

Old coach's saying: if you have two keepers similar in ability, tell the starting keeper that "the job is yours until you lose it". I don't think Warner lost the job against Sydney.

I do understand that being a keeper myself aswell. but i think he has let a couple goals he should have in last couple games. every game he played except the roar game in which he was great, he has looked a little dodgy to me

I've heard Ryan Nelsen actually runs the team from Blackburn. That's why he hasn't been playing much lately.

I heard that Ryan Nelsen is so tough, he didn't wear his shirt at the World Cup - they just tattooed the logos, name and numbers on him. Chuck Norris isn't even that tough. Even

I'm sure there will be a Paul amongst them - we should get one for the club (would help with our game plans if we knew the outcome beforehand, and my TAB flutters).

He might be able to predict but can he coach?
But I supose an 8 armed asistant would handy at present!

3 Ricki Herbert gets the sack from a coaching job

Which would still leave him in charge of a couple of teams ... nothing moves in New Zealand footy without old Herbo wanting to coach it but the time is at hand for a change. Having one bloke coaching the country's national team, the only professional team and apparently the Olympic team is unhealthy for the game. New Zealand soccer needs more diversity and expansive thinking. The new owners of the fail-to-rise-any-further Phoenix will see the light.

Fair call IMO.

First of all its a slap in the face of all other professional coaches in NZ

Second it kills off any alternative coaching style/methods as its all "Rickies way of doing it"

Third its not so good for the Nix. Rickie will be away for a good slice of the offseason on AW and Olympic duty. We don't have a proper assistant coach and the rest of the back room staff are light on the ground. This off season is an important one for the Nix as we need to refresh an aging squad. A lot of thought and hard work will be needed to get this recruitment done properly(players as well as backroom staff). We also need to get the recruits on board early and have a proper preseason buildup. Hard to see how this is all going to happen properly with Rickie in London. I would prefer the Nix coach to concentrate on the Nix 100%

Rattue spouting the party line about Herbert 'wanting' the Olympic job,I believe that's not true... and is this neccessary ?

Snide and unecessesary when we're on as good a season start as we ever have.

Also these guys weren't coming on to improve the Phoenix off the bat they were here to bring the club out of financial crisis, then improve it over time.

Or it gives an up and coming coach to develop by taking a side through (what should be) an acheivable qualifying campaign, then spending time as an assistant to the country's (theoretically) top coach to learn.

As News says, my understanding is Herbert isn't totally keen to do it, but NZF are driving it.

Edit: I do agree completely with your 3rd point.

I mean, seriously. The guy's still got no assistant coach, a part-time goalkeeping coach, no CEO, f**k all else back room support, all kinds of pre-season issues (might even still be owed money by Terry as far as we know, not that you'll hear from Ricki about it).

What we have seen already this season is just a master class in coaching, making the very best out of the resources at your disposal, and good old-fashioned professionalism.
