Its hard to get on board with any of the names being thrown around though because there's been at least a dozen mentioned yet we still don't really have any idea about which one it might be. Popa was said to have been in Wellington about a week ago, I'm still clinging on to that minuscule chance he signs with us. He's not ruling out an A-League return though, and really how many clubs are there that he could go to? He's ruled out Sydney, rumour is that WSW are lining up someone else from Europe, CCM just signed Mulvey, Roar won't kick Aloisi since they managed to stumble their way into the finals, Ernie has renewed at the Jets, so has Muscat at the Victory. Pretty sure Adelaide are keen on keeping Kurz, and Melbourne City have done well under Joyce. Kenny Lowe is most likely to get fired tomorrow if Ray Gatt is right, so that leaves just us and Perth. Speculating on speculative speculation, but its you never know

How would you know? No one can understand what he says anyway.......

It's odd (like someone said on the other page) as Adelaide fans and players seem to talk so highly of him. Maybe it's just a tough love kind of situation?

I disagree totally. Dura has done a great job guiding Fox and Cacace into very good defenders. Defending is mostly about communication and Dura does that very well. He has had to contend with a real shark year -
a) having to play with four different keepers behind him, the relationship between the keeper and central defenders is crucial and Dura was the only constant.
b) having to play with Rossi, who 'should' have been our top defender, but played as if he'd rather be somewhere else.
c) being captain and having to deal with whatever was going on with Darije, Darije and Rado, then the coach being sacked.
d) Dura shows week in and week out that he is still up to the defending job as well
e) having a range of 'fullbacks' experimented with by the coaches, (e.g. Abbas, Parkhouse) and when they get into trouble, who has to sort it out? The centre defender.

All good points. It's impossible for anyone to perform in a defensive structure that is not organised and cohesive

Dura's been here through some tough years. So is he a victim of what is going on around him or part of the cause? I think the fact that he is a leader who has a huge influence on others makes us look at him a bit closer than we would the other players.

I sort of feel sorry for him. For a lot of his career, he could have picked any club to play for, but he stayed here. If he were at a bigger club he probably wouldn't be questioned like he is at the Phoenix.

Interesting discussion.I do think Dura's influence would make it challenging for new managers. If you don't get him onside, I imagine he'd be heavily disruptive.

As an extreme comparison, when Moyes took over at United he went through something similar. I appreciate there are other contributing factors (especially being Fergie's successor) but there are plenty of articles stating the senior players didn't respect him and disregarded his decisions.

Based on Dome's comments recently, I don't see Dura going anywhere next season, so it's imperative whoever we hire has to get on with him. If the rumours around Gombau are true, it might not be the wisest move.

Surely Amor wouldn't go and work for the Barca bus driver?

So he sits in his Football Office all day awaiting a non football related function to come along.  ;-)

Also remember Dura came back broken from some early pre season All Whites camp, where Hudson apparently had them running like lunatics.

I think Dura generally got better as the season went on and do wonder how much of this was injury related.

The club needs some stability at the moment and giving our most experienced player would, imo, be a dumb move.  Sure he should not be on Terry money and I think he is smart enough to know his playing spot is by no means guaranteed.

He should - that's his job. He just needs to held accountable for any bad decisions he makes and applauded for the good ones.

They're also talking about using this season to transition Dura into an off field role, so start him coaching in the academy with Greenie, or an assistant coach / player for the first team or something like that.

Story on Rossi leaving has this from Dome... Doesn't say how close.

General manager David Dome says the club is also close to naming a new head coach to replace Darije Kalezic who departed mid-season, leaving Chris Greenacre in interim charge.

One of the times Dura was on the Phoenix City pod he said if he didn't get a coaching job with the nix, he would most likely head back to Oz as thats where his extended family is

Well, outside of the nix there aren't too many footballing opportunities in Wellington so if he wanted to stay in the industry he'd have to move reguardless.

...which rules out any Gombau/Lowe speculation.

So it's either a dark horse who has managed to keep his or her name out of the spotlight (Rudan? Okon? Chris Taylor? Farina?) or Jean Paul. If it's JP, which Jean Paul will he be for us?

Don't think anyone guaranteed it. I think it's more likely than not that they stay in the country

Wenger IS leaving Arsenal at the end of the season. Nix bound? At least we'd be guaranteed finishing fourth nearly every season.

As unrealistic as this is, how fricken awesome would it actually be?

Finishing 4th I mean, not hiring Wenger!

So, I googled that and found that not the brady bunch is in fact the name of a porno.

Regardless, I don't get your point and I don't think you know what your point is either. There is talk about transitioning Durante into an off field role and there is precedence with Ryan Giggs and Kevin Muscat. Or are you saying that Manchester United and Melbourne Victory are, in fact, the Brady Bunch? Maybe Muscat is Marcia?

I googled "not the brady bunch"as I wanted to know if that was a legitimate saying that meant anything. Answer: no, just pointless drivel.

And I'm sure what I found is far superior to the original.

If the announcement is still a couple of weeks away, it does suggest to me that we're about to sign a coach/assistant coach currently involved in the HAL playoffs and who can't be revealed till the finals are over.

BTW, what do the Nix players do to fill in these last few weeks of the official season with no games to play? Turn up for training as normal? Go on holiday a bit early?

One would assume they go on Holiday for the next 2-3 months. Season's over, there are no details regarding contracts, HAL doesn't start until October or so and World Cup's in June.
