Is Rudan still an option now that SFC have gone with Corica?

Perhaps not, but are they going to fold?  Are they going through the same as us?

I don't think so.

Do they appear to be a mickey mouse club?

I was not trying to make a point ... you love sticking in the knife.

I was sincere in wondering if Rudan could still be a candidate and knowing what HAL positions are still available; helps narrow down any potential candidates for the 'Nix.

How can you appoint a new head coach when the continued existence of the club is in serious doubt? Surely a guarantee from the owners of two more years A-League football in Wellington is the least any prospective coach would need. And as to how a new coach could attract any half decent new players without that kind of certainly...

But that's a source of optimism, isn't it? If a new coach is appointed this week, or the next, then Imminent Death of the Nix Predicted is once more premature.

As long as it's a good coach.

Cynicism is easy, and there's plenty of it in the air at the moment, but I am trying to remain optimistic throughout these troubling times.

Yes, a good coach would be wonderful, but IMHO the appointment would need to be accompanied by a public commitment from the owners to keep a Wellington based team in the A-League, and for them to reveal a 10 year plan as to how they're going to do it.

Well, if the FFA want to get rid of us, they're going to get rid of us. We only have more than 2 seasons left if (a) Welnix can satisfy FFA metrics
[slim-no chance]; (b) the A-League becomes independent [chances unclear]. In neither case can Welnix commit to anything.

But with only 2 years left that's actually more certainty than most would get in the A-League! Just need to get some one in for a 2 year project to win the league, give them a budget and get them to sell it to the players. At the end of the day a player that is at a club that has just won the league is always going to find another club easier than one that's at one that finished at the bottom

Football is a short term thing for most players, if you have a project and plan and some one to sell it well then attracting players won't be an issue, but it has to come from the top and they just don't seem interested anymore

Rudan hasn't been at Sydney United since mid 2017. The club appointed Jason Culina for 2018 but he resigned after just 8 games; can't recall who is in charge now. Not the biggest cupset either - Rockdale are ahead of United, both mid table, on NSW NPL ladder.

Yes, that is true now. When I posted, it was still an hour before the Budget - plenty of time for speculation.

I wonder if anyone has thought this way. Probably.

Rather than think- who can we get right now, international search etc etc. think who have been the most successful A-league coaches and who have been the most successful NZ coaches and try and create a profile.

To be fair Ernie was a fairly good shout. Probably the idea was right in trying to hire Vidmar, but ideally we want the next 'Vidmar' not the last one. Same way the idea was probably right about wanting Rado involved. I dunno if we'll ever see a Kiwi side playing out from the back the way the 'Nix did in the first few games of last season. Surely Ricki isn't the only professional team coach NZ is going to produce in my life time? If we can produce a few Rojases, Thomases and Woodses surely there has to be a Kiwi coach somewhere who wants the job?

Oh I'm sure there are several who would jump at the opportunity - the problem is that 99% of them won't have the right qualifications.

Only need the quals if you're a foreigner.

It occurred to me recently how ridiculous this qualification thing is.  Des Buckingham has apart from a few games as caretaker has never managed first team in any capacity - he was basically a promoted goal-keeping coach.  Then you have the two standout local candidates, being Jose Figueria and Ramon who aren't qualified for the job.  I really do think there's a strange thing going on here

As NZPower said, it is the Pro licence requirement that makes the field that much smaller, with Scribbler's favourite coach candidate one of the few qualified and present in NZ, and then Des and the current AWs coach also in that category.

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

New Zealanders are classified as foreigners when it comes to coaching in the A-League

It's funny how that constantly pops up any time someone says Ryan Nelsen

Nelson has all the makings to be a great manager. Of course, for now at least, he has chosen not to follow this career path

Many more good managers fail at their first gig

Tomorrow will be 80 days since we (the public) found out about Kalezic's departure. And as we all know, In that time Perth, West Sydney, Sydney, and Central Coast have had their old coaches leave and have replaced them. We are a week and a bit away from it essentially taking a quarter of a year to get a coach
