I'm not asking why they got such a big crowd, because I know that,  I'm just saying it killed me seeing the stadium full for them when it was empty for us all season.

Timing and marketing, both things the Nix dont do well.

They game would have drawn in people from most of the lower North Island I would think. Levin is probably awash with those special shirts because of Packer. You are only going to get the hardcore fans travelling from further than Coast/Masterton every fortnight for games.

A lot of very large contingents from Auckland came down for the Warriors games - Suffered in the pubs the night before and after the game.

I was there. The pace was packed but given the crowd size the noise was virtually nil. Definitely not a 'chant n sing' crowd, a bit of a roar on a big hit etc. Not even vaguely anywhere near the best atmosphere ever in an NZ sports event - the legendary-and-never-to-be-forgotten Bahrain game.

agree with this, no atmosphere at all was looking forward to being in a large crowd for a sports event. left the stadium feeling a little dissapointed.

Bahrain probably had the best atmosphere.  The Nix vs Perth playoff had to be the most drama-filled and tense game for me (= emotional involvement = atmosphere).

In my defense.....T&Cs apply.

Also that is my prediction for ring of fire games, which is actually just under 10k.

I am not wrong.

I think the nix will avoid worst attendance figure for wellington sports teams. I'm at the twenty20 game now. There's probably 1.5k here at best.

There looked like 300 on TV unless they were all hiding behind the camera.

it still won't stop the travelling circus though will it - beside we still have this weeks game to top this. After a atsrt of now wins this season and only 1 game at westpac we'll be lucky if anyone shows up to the game.

I'm not sure about that. I went to the Mexico game last week and had a blast and it gave me increased enthusiasm for the Phoenix game this Sunday. Hopefully others feel the same.

Hard to tell what sort of crowd will front up...SFA if TV1 have their way. The other night they gleefully announced that the Nix are officially having the worst start to a season in their history!

300? That's a bit generous. I honestly thought there was under 100 there. Just shows what a stupid sport T20 cricket is.

I think we will be lucky to get 8000+. It's like the Nix have had two affairs with different people and now want to take us back. I reckon quite a few people are pissed off or have simply forgot about the and we will have lost a bit of support. Owners need to learn about business to customer relationships. Really *****d us over so far this season.

And the funniest bit about it is that a cricket game that draws 1.5k gets twice the media attention than a 9k Nix game...

I hate NZ Media...

Another woeful crowd but quite simply, more people aren't going to turn up until:

1) we start winning

2) we start scoring

3) mainstream media gives more of a shit

1 & 2 might happen, not sure about 3.

True that. 3 games in 3 weeks now though so no excuses really.

Well, apart from no wins, no goals, it's too sunny, it's too windy, it's too cold, it's too expensive etc etc...

I had a great time today, and I was completely sober too. It was nail bititng and crazy at times. It was fun in the zone with lots of tipsy banter. "Ernie Merrick's yellow army" turning into "I'm a Dalek - yellow army" when Don misheard.

Both myself and Vickmeist commented how much we missed it.

I meant numbers wise the crowd was poor, not that those who were there were poor. Credit those who were there, down with those who didn't bother!

That's what we have to find out and that's what I would be targeting if I was running the club. I mean people showed up even though pretty much everyone knew that the All Whites were going out, yet I saw loads of people in All Whites gear on the train that I've never seen at Nix matches. Why then would these people come to se one team lose and yet would'nt go and see a team that's got a good chance of winning?

Was it the presence of a "big team"? Do some Wellingtonians just don't get/like the Nix? Is it because the All Whites only play once in a while?

Welnix need to to come up with a strategy that addresses the negativity and apathy surrounding football in this country as well as promoting the Phoenix in Wellington.

The areas as I see it are:

1) The Media, (that includes recruiting a spokesman who is not as polarising as Morgan).

2) Promoting matchday.

3) Improving the stadium experience

4) Relaunching to some extent the team brand.

5) Team investment. (Marquee players, etc).

I know Tony P has not had it easy since going to Sydney.but I think he was brilliant  with the Nix, I miss that connection that we had with the club.

What do people think?

Itotally agree with you. David Dome is a nice guy and very approachable but Tony seemed to get things done. For a start that friggen music would never have started let alone be stopped. Whatever happened to the crossbar challenge? Did I hear correct today when the ZM fella said foreskin over the satdia PA?? Twice!! Blooper !

I know there's always a few that show up at big games just to be seen but instead of watching us on TV, come to the local professional teamand see what it is all about. Great way to work out your frustrations by shouting at the ref and encouraging the players. I go home feeling much better for it even thought the voice is a bit croaky right now.

See you all at the next game! Where was Ballane today? Didn't see him outside having his half time smoke.

Never left my seat at half time so I was "lucky" enough to catch the Foreskin blooper.

Yeah but how are we going to get these folk interested?

What can the Fever do? I mean I love the app, it's been a great bit of kit,  but I doubt if it's bought in that much funding. Do we start a subscription?

Guess Ballane wouldn't be interested?

Having a smoke like i normally do then returned to stand in the zone like i normally .Hadnt you better run along to another thread and check out some of that negativity.
