What are the chances of a pre-season game in Wellington the following week to this fixture?

Are Air NZ the only airline that fly Welly to Dunners?

Sadly yes the only commercial passenger airline flying into/out of Dunedin. Jeststar are flying DUD/AKL starting soon but not sure when. Pacific Blue used to fly and prices were better for a while but they left. Don't both with Grabaseat. Like hens teeth to/from Dunedin.

They have to learn them somehow

I recall a basketball game in Palmerston North that Stefan, Duane (Pronounced Dew-anne) and I went to where I may have abused a referee rather loudly with a four letter word... a lady had a  5 or 6 year old child with her and turned around, gave me the dirtest look in the word and went on a tyrade about family values. She then started abusing everyone else around us - people we hadn't met - as they all had a rather unsubtle giggle at her expense. She threatened to call security and have us (and those around us) removed.

Duane's response was to lament the fact that she hadn't complained already as it would be a blessing in disguise - He would get to leave the sh*thole that is Palmerston North.

At this point she left her child for a good 20 minutes and attempted to get us removed by talking to the security guard behind the bleachers, who was in behind the bleechers we were sitting on - within earshot of us. The security guard's response was too ask her why she didn't just move?

(And now that I've finished this I'm gonna post it cause it took me 10 minutes to type... seemed relevant when I started)

Can confirm that. From all accounts, it was at the request of the FFA, which is outstanding.

otagofan you seem to know a lot about the organisation around the game.

Do you happen to know if clubs from Balclutha up to Oamaru are actively promoting the game and/or whether busloads are coming for it?

The Scene: Before the battle in "Braveheart", or if you prefer, a real historical event.

The Location: Outside Wellington Airport Departures, Game Day, early morning.

An army of yellow and black clad Feverites stand in the early morning light, looknig grim, yet determined. Wisps of (last- fag-before-takeoff) smoke pass before their faces. The air is heavy with tension and the smell of old beer. Some of them haven't thrown up yet. Suddenly, an Elder of the Clan steps forward, a vision of wisdom, and bearing the scars of many pubs. He has magnificent knees.  He stands before the ranks, clears his throat and spits, hitting a Qantas logo square on. There is murmuring in the crowd ("Here he goes", "Who's that?", "Get him a box to stand on", "I feel sick", "Are we there yet?" etc.)- they gradually fall silent.
He speaks:

"Ode to Dunedin

Southern brethren! We come to you on silver'd wings,
Allies to out-Roar the Brisbanians. Look to tonight's blood red sky.....
Is this a Phoenix rising in a fiery victory dance?
No, it's students burning farkin sofas........

I thank you...."

He stumbles back towards the crowd, muttering, "This is the Nation's finest? Pah! Little sh*ts....Who's going to look after me when I'm too old for shop-lifting? mumble mumble....."
The silence in the ranks is broken with occasional comment "That was really quite good", Who was that?", "Are we there yet?", "Christ, I wish he wasn't my Dad", "Anyone seen my wallet?"........

Jetstar - Auckland to Dunners and back is about $180 (leave Friday, return Sunday). Pretty hard to say no to that. Anyone else from Auckland going?

I wouln't say I know alot. I'm a local ref and know a few people in the know.

I understand quite a few clubs are. Rumour is Braes have purchased 200 tickets for thier club. Southland Football has cancelled all thier leagues that day to enable people to come.

I'm planning a road trip down from Wellingtoin.
We have space for 1-2 more people
(two will be a squeeze!)

Going to Picton on the ferry Friday 19th 8.30pm
Then drive all the way to Dunedin.
Drive back on Sunday and get an evening ferry back from Picton.

Ferry will cost around $175 per person, petrol shared - maybe $30 each?
Plus accomodation etc.

Would prefer Wellington-based people to share ferry costs, but I can take people from along the way (Blenheim/Quaketown).

PM me if interested.
Cheers.

Powers of persuasion exhausted after convincing SWMBO that we need to catch up with friends in Queenstown & Invercargill. & whilst we're in that neck of the woods we may as well catch the Nix in Dunners

No family pass for the Fever Zone (same as Hamilton last year !)

My facebook events tab has informed me that this is the same weekend as Ensoc's planned 'Quake Relief Weekend' (Read: Undie 500). So once you feverites finish watching the game, feel free to burn some furniture and get roughed up by some community cops. I expect NZ's first 'Football Hooliganism' story in the Herald on Sunday, Footpaul!
