Just wondering where the logic is in a big game in Auckland getting more profit?

Galaxy came to Wellington and we got 31,000 (Can't find figures, what crowd was there in Auck? Yes was against a lesser team, still)

All Whites vs Bahrain in Wellington was sold out.

Boca Juniors was disappointing 11k (But not sure people knew the club)

Surely if the Phoenix are playing a Prem team in New Zealand you would put the game in Wellington, guaranteed a sell out right? Not really sure if you would get much more than 34k in Auckland?

Would be a serious kick in the teeth to the fans that turn up week after week.

I sort of feel that majority of auckland football fans would go to see the Prem League team, whereas majority of football fans in Wellington would go to see the Nix play a Prem League team.

It would be like an away game for the Phoenix. With a crowd supporting the opposition.

While it would be a great trip for the Fever, it would alienate a lot of the families that turn up week in, week out to the Phoenix but can't afford to fly the whole family to the game.

to be honest, the likely cost of taking the family to this game would be high regardless of location.. 

Agree Patrick but what is the point of the exercise from the point of view from Welnix?

Is it money? They *could* make some out of it so that has to be a strong consideration (or why do it)

Is it marketing/awareness? Well the Phoenix are a known quantity in WEL already... Would it make a difference in Auckland?

Is it 'let's see how our boys go against a real team? Unlikely because I suspect it would be a game of damage control.

It would have to be for money first marketing second in their eyes. I'm not sure where the best venue would be to be honest but if its about money, the more seats, the more $$ and thats Eden Park.

I'm surprised Duco do not have their fingers in this somehow. This is their bread and butter.

 I can't think of anything worse than being surrounded by 50,000 fake scousers at Eden Park no matter how much I love my Phoenix.

I'd be keen to see Spurs play

As an LFC fan I was excited about the Liverpool to Sydney rumours this week. But with the amount of poaching of our transfer targets that Tottenham have done this season, this might actually be the closest I ever get to seeing Liverpool play in Wellington!

I know Spurs are a good team, and would go watch them play. But you do have the question if they are a 'big' enough name to draw in the casuals. If you asked some one walking down the street to name a Spurs player, they would struggle.

Not sure they would sell out the stadium at the price we would likely have to charge.

if this is waht the wel nix guys spend their money on they'd better market the snot out of it, off season gmae vs a potential 'b' Spurs squad, I'd go out of interest but I'm not sure what the spur's population is in wellington.

 Even without players I think Spurs is a big enough name to draw people.  Spurs fans, Phoenix fans and event fans.

true that, I guess the novelty of a "decent" team coming here would pull a decent crowd. Still it requires welnix to put some money forward and they seem hesitant to do so.

I'd go even though it is Spurs but the game would more than likely be in July. What would be the chances of it being good weather? Right in the middle of our winter.

I don't think spurs would have the pulling power. It really has to be a big club to work in NZ. 

I've never really understood the appeal of paying a lot of money to watch teams right at the beginning of their preparation, in an uncompetitive game in the middle of the A-League off-season.  I know people get excited about watching big name clubs, but pre-season games are usually so dire.  I find sport without the competitive edge just isn't that interesting
