Just got a lot tighter in the 6. We really need to be clinical against GCU and not get complacent.

CCM have ACL games as well before the seasons end.,...hopefully they are 4+ points clear as they go into the last game as decide to rest many of their first team. I have a feeling that last game is going to be very important for us.

Not really - I think Sydney are the only team outside the 6 that has a good chance of breaking in. Think Viktree's draw last night leaves them a lot of work to do.

But this latest result has made the 3-5 spots very tight, leaving us right in the middle of it. And obviously there's a huge difference between finishing 3rd or 5th.

That's exactly what I meant, inside the top 6 it is getting tight for the places. The battle for the premiership is all on again between CCM and Brisbane, and the other 4 teams in top 6 could end up in any combination.patrick4782012-02-26 21:48:55

I personally hope the finals drop back down to 4 teams next year, because if we drop down to 5th or 6th, I wont feel like we deserve a finals spot at all

I would not be disappointed if we did finish 5th or 6th based on expectations at the beginning of the year but do tend to agree that it is more than a little absurd that 60% of the teams in a league make the finals playoff.

Damn you Mariners.....what the F**k are you doing?

This is so tight now that losing is NOT an option for any round. The Heart game will be like a knockout round for both teams and the last game against CCM will be a cup final.

You can say what you like about the playoff setup for the A-League finals but it makes for very exciting viewing as teams jostle for places at the end of the season. Nearly everyone has something to play for. I still reckon goal difference could be very very important in the end......hopefully we can tear GC apart next weekend.

A Top 6 - Does make it exciting though and that underdog theme comes in to play of running the table against the odds to win it all...The Nix are in third and if they continue to win their remaining games other teams below them can't do squat. That's the position I want my team in. After a replay of 'we want seven', 'we want seven' this weekend against the Gold Coast. That game Vs Heart looms as a defining 6 point punch, lets rally the team to delivery it!

Masters Grade aint no run in the park on a Saturday...

2B's table converted to show aggregate points of remaining opposition. Maybe gives a better perspective but doesn't factor in home advantage, if there is any. I notice everybody gets 2 home and 2 away games. Brisbane and Perth appear to have the easiest runs in...

Looking at that form table, the race is back on for the battle to finish top. We could end up doing Brisbane a favour in our last game as well as needing the points ourself. Going to be a cracking game.

Jeepers, we can't afford to lose tomorrow. Heart can overtake us next week if they beat us at AAMI park. Very very nervous now. Am feeling sick with dread for the last 4 games.

You can just about bet on GCU playing like men possessed...possessed with the need to win a new contract. No one should be coming to the RoF expecting a bunch of easybeats tomorrow. Adnan strikes again......misses a last minute penalty and Heart hold on for a draw and a vital point.

Irony v Planes and Gypsies v Smurfs.

Two massive matches that in my opinion have potential to go either way.

Best outcome for us is Irony and Gypsies winning meaning that if we win then we will be 8pts ahead of the Planes with 9pts to play for.

Therefore we would only require one more win from three to definately finish Top 6!

2nd place is still a possibilty if we can muster a win away in Melbourne as the Planes play the Raw in Round 26. C-Diddy2012-03-03 18:06:29

It may have been noted elsewhere but....
Both Roar and Central Coast have their 1st round matches of the 2012 AFC Champions League coming up.
Roar's first is in Tokyo on this Tuesday 6th March, and, interesting for us, Central Coast play Nagoya Wednesday 21st March then play us on Sunday 25th.

So, the Mariners and Brisbane are definitely in the playoffs, and GCU are definitely out. Realistically, Adelaide and Victory are also out, leaving 5 teams going for 4 places in the playoffs.
