Another significant aspect of that result is that it increases the likelihood that CCM might have the title wrapped up before they come here for the last game of the season, in which case we will likely play their youth team.

If they beat Perth tonight it's a big win-win for us.

Depends whether you're looking up or down the table really.

I'm looking up the table but for us to finish first would require CCM not getting any more points and Brisbane not winning away at the Jets or Gold Coast. Seems unlikely.

I think we're better off hoping CCM have already won the league by the time they get here, which conveniently would also require them to get Perth off our backs tonight. Then we hope for Brisbane to turn in another couple of performances like tonight.

2nd place. Easy!

CCM also have an ACL game midweek before playing us, so if they have the premiership wrapped up before playing us they may rest some players after that important match, rather than making them more tired in a dead rubber (for them) against us.patrick4782012-03-11 21:43:12

If Perth beat CCM tonight they will also go into third. Although we would still only be 5 points off the top it would mean that there's then 3 teams for us to get past, which would be a clusterf**k.

I think we're better off if CCM beat Perth, and we target 2nd.

6 points from 6 are there for the taking, and are vital. Victory are absolute rubbish, and the wheels have fallen off CCM as well. COYN.

After watching CCM tonight I would hardly say that 'the wheels have fallen off' Still one of the best sides in the league. 'Melbourne are absolute rubbish'playing us at home, lets hope that comment does not come back to bite us on Friday.
If you think we can get the 6 points in the next two games, slip into the TAB and stick $500 on it. Would be a good earner.

The Tards may be rubbish but with Archie leading the line they have never had much trouble opening up our defence. Hernandez will be back, Kewell is always dangerous and Rojas is finally starting to look decent. A win away will be very tough I fear.

If our defense can hold tight like it has for most of this season, we can probably score one or two past the weak point of the Victory, their defense and snatch at least a point, if not 3.

I get the feeling that our friends on the Cold Ghost will have a little bit more to say about how this table looks in 2 weeks time...

They have 2 home games remaining (possibly their last ever ones!) against Perth and Brisbane.

Brisbane also away to Jest next week.

Hmmmm. Tasty!C-Diddy2012-03-12 08:06:59

So now that we are tied with Perth on points and goal difference, does it come down to goals scored, or is it head to head?

The seperators for teams tied on points are (in order)..

Goal difference
Goals scored
Head-to-head points
Head-to-head goal difference
Fewest red cards
Fewest yellow cards
Toss of a coin

Yes unfortunatly.....if we get 4th and win our home playoff we then will almost certainly have to go to Perth. This is about the worst away playoff game you could get.

Perth still have GC away and Victory at home....on form they could win both of those. Our away game to the Victory where we have never won and home to top of the table CCM are really tough games. In reality we need 6 points. It now apears that CCM will not be runaway leaders so they will come to the ROF needing points.

Archie has been in a goal drought, so is bound to score a few against us

Also, I know the fact 6 team's make the play offs cops a lot of flak. But with 2 games to go, 7 teams still have something to play for, and all games this round mean something. That is something that can't be said about other leagues.

Just having a look at Sinz's excellent spreadsheet, it is interesting to see that we have the best record against teams in the bottom half of the table, countered with having one of the worst records against the top half:

Phoenix vs bottom half of the table:

Phoenix vs top half of the table:

(and before people ask why the discrepancy between games played in top v bottom half table, we are in the top half and cannot play ourselves, and the same goes for other teams)

With two games to go our points per game compared to previous seasons:

And our Win/Draw/Loss percentages compared to previous seasons:
