Sigh, there's a parallel universe where Siggy doesn't touch Jeronimo, Paston grabs the ball just before legitimately colliding with him and leaving the little bastard unconscious on the ground. I wanna live in that world.

What about a giant jeronimo doll that we chuck around the fever zone during the game each taking a punch ?

This from the regs..

Obvious Error means a decision by the Referee to:
(e) issue a Yellow Card when a Red Card was warranted;
(f) not issue any card when a Red Card was warranted;
(g) issue a Red Card when no card was warranted;
(h) not Expel a Team Official when Expulsion was warranted; and
(i) not issue a Yellow Card for Simulation when a Yellow Card was warranted,.
being a decision that no referee in the possession of all the facts, including all Broadcast Footage, could reasonably have made.

So under those regulations, it is hard to argue under (g) "no card was warranted", though you could, but clearly Jeronimo should have been punished under (i), as there was clearly simulation that warranted a yellow card. Otherwise you are saying to players, if there is any contact on you by a opposition player, you are welcome to dive at the time, or afterwards, and we won't punish you for that.

Need more diving boards. And when he's here we need "10" signs to put up whenever he goes down.

If the Yellow Fever could come up with something 'fun' that won't be noticed by the officials I'm happy to chip in.

Looking at the regs quoted and this case, the FFA interpretation seems to be that as soon as there is a foul, there can't be simulation, therefore Geronimo gets away with any action after the foul.

There can be simulation without a foul which is a yellow card ? offence.

Lesson: As soon as someone fouls you, dive as you wish, but make sure that you have been touched and the ref sees it

How many steps can you take between the 'foul' and the dive before (as News says) they become seperate incidents.  Can a player be tugged on half way then go down 10m later after realising the ball has got away from him, yet it not be called a dive?

That the issue of Jeronimo's dive can't be addressed because of what amounts to a technicality is probably a highly desirable outcome for FFA. This incident will quickly fade from memory (except around these parts), whereas if the nasty decision had to be made to apply a sanction it would bring all the wrong kinds of headlines in this time of trumpet blowing hype and razzmatazz. The A League's all about ADP, Heskey and record crowds, full stop.

"If he's dived he's a cheat"

He has not been done for diving,so dura never called him a cheat.

"The linesman didn't do anything"

And quite correctly too according to the MRP. Durante was therefore complimenting the linesman on his fine job.

 just an absolute fucking rubbish decision, sure under the rules the panel can't really remove siggy's red, but under those same rtules they could easily ban Jeronimo. This is the win win scenario as they come out saying Siggy you fouled therefore ban stands, Jeronimo - you my friend dived and we cannot accept this in our game, you my son get the same ban as Sigmund - simple, why was this not the decision - oh because its the Wellington team, not the Victory, Sydney FC or the Roar - you know the teams that are allowed to win the league.

This really is the key.  Simulation is defined as faking a injury or a foul.  So if it is one 'incident' then he hasn't dived.

So for me, this is their reasoning taking into account the regs etc.

1) Sigmund received a red, but because he should have been given a yellow (because it was a clear goal scoring opportunity), the MRP couldn't look at the incident. Therefore red and ban stands.

2) Because the appeal is rejected, they can't look at whether he dived.

No other federation in the world could possibly hold their grand final in New Zealand with all the information they have at their disposal.

just cos this mayt be the case doesn't make it right, it means the FFA have handy rules to hide behind.

except that our stadium is the 4th biggest behind Ethihad (56k), Suncorp (52k), Allianz (45k), Westpac (36k), -  so in this case size is irrelavent.

  As the MRP did not uphold the Obvious Error Application, there was no basis under the Regulations to conduct a post match review for possible Simulation.

I'd love the Victory to be on the receiving end.  And hope the Roar put another 7 past Adelaide.

Random thought: Wouldn't it be great if the FFA spent a few bucks and brought in a marquee referee to raise the standard of officiating in the HAL. I reckon someone from The Falkland Islands or Nauru would fit the bill.

How can the FFA defend spending shitloads on bringing Shinji Ono to the league when they could have invested in better development for referee's with money?

Also, I'm surprised that Siggy didn't get slapped with an extra week on his suspension for a "frivolous appeal", just like Foschini from the Victory got last season.
