Just imagine if Terry actually pulls this off and the dollars start flowing from this money tree that is WGA.
I mean look at the West Indian cricket team and Stanford, they got rich very quickly from him before he went down
maybe this will be the year the phoenix will be the new bling team, bringing in a marquee player and kill this comp!!
rock on terry

Anyway, my favourite theory about the $4m yet - the winner of the Lotto jackpot was, in fact, a Nix fan.
So wrong,
The money came from ACFC. They have finally realised they are playing in an amatuer league so have given their player payments for next season to Terry to keep the Phoenix afloat.

Geez, if ACFC are paying their current players $4 million a year, they should ask for a partial refund (and a better penalty taker).

Nippert looks like a rubbish John Denver impersonator...
Nah. Definitely Vic Reeves.
Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Nah. Definitely Vic Reeves.
More like Christopher Reeve (and not in his role as Superman!)

I tell ya, it was odd at the NZ U-20 game, balancing the conflicting urges to yell "GO MARCO YOU GOOD THING" and "HOPE YOU LIKE HANGING WITH THE TARDS, JUDAS".
Also: good answer from Terry to the "oh noes why haven't we signed anyone yet?!?" brigade - because we don't want to end up with another Toto.

wow, i almost thought it was a late april fools day joke. sounds good. I'm not convinced about an Auckland (I blame the knitting circles chants) game but otherwise all seems cool.

National or International sponsor would want Auckland exposure.(Hamilton north is big % of population)
Dare I say it, the sport needs the exposure as well. And hell.. aucklanders can have a chance to prove themselves. f**k it up, and the team will never go back

I'm a little disappointed as I feel choosing Auckland over Hamilton is failing to repay the loyalty shown by the region, as well as a bigger risk than a match at Waikato Stadium. But I don't need to rant about that again
I'll be looking forward to it if it does happen, got some good mates up there and will look forward to meeting some more of Auckland's Fever.

Those of you with the print edition of the Sunday Star Times will see that virtually the same story runs there (both written by Simon Plumb. Fairfax obviously keen to get their money's worth!).
The implication in the SST is definitely that the sponsorship is coming from within NZ. Intriguing, that would be a massive sponsorship by any measure. On the other hand could just be Plumb's shoddy journalism.
This thread needs a name change by the way, something like "Future of the Phoenix" or "Read It And Weep Nippert You Bottom-Feeding Lapdog of Redneck New Zealand".

"We have spots for about eight or nine players. Ricki and I are going to take our time viewing players. We're already looking."
Anyone else slightly concerned by that quote? I realise it is probably just a way of expressing someone, but Terry shouldn't be scouting our players. That is Rickis job, Terry can in the end sign off on how much they get paid but it is the football part of the business job to scout players.
Anywho, like others have said. Talk is fine. Ill be happy when I see some action.

Nice idea but unfortunately their authorised purposes prevent them from supporting professional football.
Which is why in the year ended 31/7/2010 they had over $700k to give to the 100% amateur good honest Kiwis playing at the coalface of NZ football also known as Auckland City FC and Central United FC.
But that's a discussion for another thread. This one actually...

To be fair I've just had a phone call from one of my highly informed sources at ACFC who says that the 5 year, $10m sponsorship of the Phoenix is actually coming from NZF.
At least I think that's what he said, he doesn't speak very good English...

Happy to hear the club has interest in taking the team up to Auckland for a game. Whether it is preseason or regular season I'm not too fussed. A nice reward for those of us who have made the trip down regularly and a good opportunity to increase the support base. I look forward to having as many of you up here for a weekend so we can return the great hospitality many of us have enjoyed in Wellington from many of you. It will be interesting to see which venue they go for. Don't worry about our friends at ACFC - perhaps a few of them will come along to support the Nix on the day too!

"Coach for second team".
Sorry but I'm obviously out of the loop here, what second team?
Phoenix reserve team
They've been referred to as Wellington Phoenix A by the club and ASB Premiership website.
