Well, the Nix are training and triallists are coming over, which seems weird if - as Michael Brown's "insider" said - there is no money for wages after next week.

Terry does have an unnerring ability to find spare cash down the back of the sofa when he needs it.
I may explain though why we have started pre-season with 14 players, no assistants, no goal keeping coach and bugger all else!

To paraphrase Samuel Johnson: "Sir, Terry Serepisos's continued financial survival is like a dog walking on its hind legs. It is not done well, but you are amazed to see it done at all."

Why not sell debentures to supporters? Has anyone mentioned this before?
Seriously?
Are you talking about fans taking part ownership of the Phoenix or fixed term debentures?
The fan ownership model has been discussed about quite a bit e.g. https://www.yellowfever.co.nz/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=15120
So I assume you're talking about fans investing fixed term debentures to the club (i.e. Century City) or Terry?? If you're willing to do that at the moment you are a very brave man!!

Grandadi is an octopus - he doesn't have that sort of money.
It did seem a bit fishy after I wrote it..........................
Perhaps a loan from one of our mighty finance companies?
Nostalgia isnt what it used to be...........

I think it's fairly well known that no-one in NZ will touch him now. Hence why he's looking over in the middle east for "Hail Mary" loans.
You'd be better off trying to feed him some lotto predictions...

It's thought he has maybe two weeks before the club enters dangerous territory.
Clearly no-one's told Paul Ifill, who's announced he's in talks about extending his contract.
I have respect for Brown's work usually, but anonymous tips from people with an agenda are generally unreliable.Doloras2011-06-18 18:37:35

this is what mnost of the nix death rumours have been based on, noone disputes Terry's financial woes, but I have serious doubts on the validity of half of the "nix are broke and not paying people" rumours - particularly as there is no staff other than Ricki left to pay.

Maybe, I'm missing something but are some players so desperate to play A League football that they are willing to take a punt and sign for the Nix? I'm thinking that if I was in a similar position [no other immediate prospects, no other occupation, young] then I'd probably take the punt and do it myself.

Yeah, wikifrauds.net is a good (if wholly partisan) source for information on Ali Syed and his shenanigans. Assuming on the balance of evidence that this is a scam rather than pure incompetence, someone should write a book about how this guy managed to suck in and rip off some shrewd, hard-nosed businessmen and football clubs.
(Nipples? I'm sure you could get a sizeable advance from any decent publishing house for that project. But then you'd have to write about Terry as a victim, rather than as the bad guy, which doesn't fit the story you set out to tell, I understand...)

If you bother to not notice the headline, he says
Not dependent on the 100m - has restructured.
He has multiple other sponsors on the go.
WGA coming through would be icing on the cake, but not essential.

Mr Serepisos admits to having paid WGA establishment fees but would not say how much those fees were.
"He has offered them back to me many a time ... I don't believe I've been scammed."
A WGA sponsorship deal of the Phoenix was also likely to happen, Mr Serepisos said. "I still believe Mr Ali will be a sponsor but he isn't the only one we've been talking to. There are three or four other parties to make up sponsorships of $10m so the Phoenix is in a very comfortable position."
He says that the $100m is still coming through and in the next breath says he has a number of other sponsors lined up too - I'm not sure I have much faith in what he says tbh.

I don't know how that story can be credited to Dave Burgess and The Dominion Post when large parts of it are plagarised from Kate McClymont's story in the Sydney Morning Herald yesterday.
Same parent company I know, but still, not what we expect from an award-winning* journalist like Burgess.

Just to remind you to look on the bright side. He may well have been conned by a shady dealer and he doesn't pay his bills on time, but we're still got the best owner in the league.

I have yet to jump on the 'lets all hate the dompost and NBR' bandwagon, but after reading that piece it's hard not to.
Disappoints me greatly that we have to look to a sydney paper to read anything positive about our team.

The FFA love Terry for the reasons that article explains, but then they don't personally know contractors who went bust because Terry didn't pay his bills until the last possible moment. Those people are the kind of people who read and advertise in the DoomPost and the NBR, and consider Burgess and Nipples crusaders for justice against a dodgy Greek businessman, and would consider it hilarious if he went bust, no matter if he took the Nix with him.
They have a point, but there are few people throughout history who have done great good without having also done some crappy things at times. There are no saints except in the viewpoint of the one-eyed. Which is why the posters here who keep dreaming of a White Knight with impeccable funding sources to take over the Nix are... well, dreaming. I fully believe that to have the kind of ego that can handle losing $1m+ a year to own a pro football team, you have to have the kind of ego which - for example - thinks paying your bills on time is for the little people.
Until the A-League becomes profitable, we will be reliant on the goodwill of Terry, or someone very Terry-like.Doloras2011-06-22 13:40:37
