Pretty sure the other owners offered Gareth the chance to bail out long ago when he was being particularly embarrassing so if he's still here that is his choice.

Vacuum always leads to the full spectrum of interpretations. Also remember ALL metrics are down across the league, not just Nix. Only 20,000 tv viewers for Newcastle v City (2v3) last weekend. This closed league system is broken.

However, to return to my point: surely it’s a simple thing for Rob to conduct an honest and yet reassuring media conference re next 2 years. If not, why not?

Anyone able to answer this question?

I am prepared to start a PledgeMe to buy Gareth Cat-hating Ego-Gratification-Political-Party Morgan out of Welnix. My own donation will be two dollars and fitty cents.

God I wish that clubs in the A league disclosed the salaries of their players like they do in the MLS.

It would rid of us this myth that we are a heavy spender on players compared to others.

Bottom two,

So 4 years ago the Owners,  Players, staff joined SaveTheNix .

They welcomed and endorsed it. But once we got the 10 yrs all be it 4 +3 +3 was Thier a big surge in season memberships.

No and they got shark for playing a couple of games out of Wgtn. Ok FFA made game times that did not suit but still the FANs got back under the rocks and left the supporters to carry on.

The Owners (Remeber we have more than Chris Morgan) Kept investing donating to improve football in Wgtn and trying to improve the Nix.  They have proven they are here to stay are you.  Ozzy teams have not had great seasons but the crowd still turns up.

Out of interest how many on here could add Foundation Member or 9 or 8 or 7or ......year Season Member to their bi line.

Blew, you and most others here are hard core fans. In any time, good or bad, we represent a fraction of the Phoenix's potential stakeholders.

When things are bad, it would be normal for a portion of the hard core fans to disengage. But the real damage is done when the general punter disengages. Those on the fringes of interest are far greater in numbers than the hard core and they will also get back under the rocks very quickly when things are not right.

Having an owner say he's 'not interested' is like taking a sledge hammer to your general punters. Yeah, we all know it's Chris Morgan and he's a yappy so and so, but he said it, and no one else has come out and said they're committed, and therefore the general punters are quite entitled to think 'if they're not interested, why should i be'.

You, myself and many others on here have good info that suggests that the ownership group are in fact very skilled, committed and are doing a lot of work behind the scenes to make a good go of this. But for the general punter and also for many on this forum, there is no evidence of this, and certainly no perception.

The club needs to be focused on generating a positive perception. Going to a Phoenix game used to be almost as 'cool' around town as going to the sevens. It was a pile of fun. The team had battlers and a touch of skill. We loved them for it. We never won it, but we consistently topped the 'most balls into the box' stat and that was pretty cool wasn't it because we knew how to stick it up 'em. The fans were plentiful, loud and hilarious. Teams hated coming here and the general punter wanted to be right in among it.

I believe Rob Morrison is out of the country which makes it hard for him to make a contrary comment.

i have been to most games since 07 but have not been a season ticket holder every year during that time and did not have a season ticket this year.

the main reason i have not had a season ticket every year was mostly because of ticketek screwing me around every year i bought one of them.

The only shining light this season has been the young kiwis that have come into their own during the last few games (and earlier in the case of Ridenton). The academy is finally bearing fruit and despite the first team problems it seems that the academy is one investment which is starting to pay off.

The Covert Agent can reveal that Morrison has been meeting with a variety of franchises in an attempt to sell the club's two-year licence with a view for relocation.

Despite these discussions, sources close to Football Federation Australia suggest it's highly unlikely the governing body will allow such a transaction to take place.

if correct, kind of make sence the delay in hiring a coach and signing players. See if can sell the Franschie first - if not then plod along for the next 2 years then bail out.

Considering ol mate Morgan basically said the same thing recently, and we’ve heard nothing from the owners to the contrary it’s kind of hard to argue.

Permalink Permalink
almost 8 years ago · edited about 5 years ago · History

No it's not. It's very easy to argue against.

The FFA would lose millions they don't want to lose, by all accounts Rob Morrison talked up next season's plans and the Academy future at the awards last night.

I'm not claiming it's 100% untrue but there are a lot of signs that say it's incredibly unlikely.

Domey said in his chat with Piney that Wellington are going back to their local focus. I don't think he'd sell anywhere but in NZ if they're doing that.

Whether the FFA would allow it or not is not the point.

Also, that’s great that he said that at the awards, however that’s not exactly a public statement. Its the silence, and not much else happening, that leads to articles like this.

He ain't actually going to annonce it at the end of season awards is he?

I think there is a high probability that this is true.

He has 2 years life span

Knows on every metric he is failing

And therefore will get the boot at the end of it

So why not look to cash in now (there actually is a business term for this carry on and it's not flattering)

In one years time his license is worth less

In two years nothing - in fact worse then that - a lot of sharke to tidy up

Didn't the covert agent say the Phoenix turned down seven million?

Permalink Permalink
almost 8 years ago · edited about 5 years ago · History

I believe the 7.5 million story, as in I believe there were some Chinese that approached the Phoenix and offered it, and they got nowhere with it

I can believe that Rob Morrison has quite likely met with most (if not all) the potential new bidders for the 2 new franchises, but this would be in his role as chair of the A League clubs association and ensuring they knew the score on the whole FFA \ FIFA bust up from the A-League clubs point of view
