So last year we had two marquee's because we had Burns and WeeMac or is WeeMac only our marquee player this year and wasn't last?
I thought we were under the cap, Ernie always said we had money to spend.

In 4 years we talking about the same metrics again.
Yup but at least we can relax and support our club for the next 3 years, before having another stressful year.
Oh well I am happy, my club still exists. Was happy to support the owners if they decided to walk away, happier to still have the Nix.
The Phoenix said that they think that the metrics targets are very acheivable, and if they meet them the extensions are automatically triggered.
He talked about them being goals Welnix would want to achieve themselves in any case, all about growing the club.
I was scribbling bits down while they were talking. Apart from what others have already said I thought these were significant:
Ernie and Rob both talked about the licence deal's impact on the ability to sign good players going forward. Ernie wanting two at the pointy end and repeated his comments about some exciting players that they are looking at and talking to. Rob not against marquees, saying McG is one and Burns was one, but "will not pay superannuation to aging European players." No problem bringing in good quality players from overseas. Seemed quite philosophical that "they'd lucked out with Jeffrey" after him looking like he could have fitted in well.
Deal includes an understanding with FFA on more promotion of the A League in NZ, which would be an ongoing dialogue.
Dome was asked about NZF: he said that he felt that a lot of good had come out of the licence communications with NZF, both organisations with the same general intent and now working on how to develop this together and work side by side. And despite the recent problem that he was more positive now than he had been working with NZF.
Ernie said at the end that Krishna was only 4-5 weeks away.
Rob was asked if he had feared for the club - said not the first time he'd been turned down on something, ask the wife, but you just look for how to get around it..
Doesn't seem like they are taking more games on the road but are focussing on growing the brand nationally.
Certainly a lot of scope to do this in the off season. Events like the West Ham and Newcastle tour were good. Also just getting around the country, giving out free tickets and so on.
Those night rider flights would be good!
Also promoting individual players- Kosta, Roly, Dura- if these guys get and build profile nationally that does the same for the team
So the problems that WelNix face in getting exposure is clear when you look at the major websites, the NZ Herald which focuses on Auckland obviously has the license story as breaking news on the top of every page. Stuff, the Wellington based and focussed news site has the announcement buried under sports > football and not even on the home page, let alone as a breaking news anouncement.

based on some of the "breaking news" announcements they have done the Nix should have warrented one.
Now on front page but only under "editors picks"
FFS stuff, if we're going to get the 3+3's we're going to need you to do a little better
When we didn't get this licence initially they were all over the news, now that it's resolved it's not as click-worthy obviously
Just to put a downer on everybody over the great news...... Someone who has heard or read the whole presser, did the Phoenix actually thank the nix fans for their support through all of this? Here's a quote of Rob from Stuff :
"On behalf of the club I would like to acknowledge the support of the other A-League clubs and their fans who came out in the support of the Phoenix during the Save the Nix campaign. The Save the Nix campaign was an important part of the process and we are very grateful for all the support we received," Morrison said.
If they didn't then there is a starting point for them - Your own fans first.... treat us as gold [even though we are finicky and angst ridden]. I've banged on a bit before about how I think the Nix lack a bit in that department but I am happy to be proven wrong by them,

The guy who runs stuff seems to be a tool.
I complained at one point about an announcement and special banner about a tsunami warning- that didn't link to anything. I had family camping right on the coast and rang up Civil Defence and found out that it was in PNG and not for NZ and I did that before they managed to get an article up with the correct info.
He was snarky and didn't say sorry or even the weasley 'sorry that you had that experience', but said thanks for the feedback, like I was an employee daring to give him, the great and glorious one a suggestion.
He also wrote a retarded editorial about the beach campaign- pointing out that it was glorious because : "This is about what ordinary Kiwis - not "taxpayers", just people - can achieve by each chipping in just a little."
Funnily- that's exactly what we do as taxpayers with our under-resourced conservation estate and many, many other very worthy things we do as ordinary kiwis and taxpayers.
Check the other sites daily, but certainly not stuff.
Yellow Fever, supporters of Wellington Phoenix FC, are delighted with today’s announcement that the Phoenix have secured a ten year Hyundai A-League licence.
Since 2007, the Phoenix has been the lifeblood of football in New Zealand, providing a professional pathway for aspiring footballers.
“While it’s great to see the FFA back track, this is no time for complacency” says Yellow Fever founder, Michael Greene. "The club continues to need your support. We urge fans throughout New Zealand to continue to come through the turnstiles, purchase memberships and tune in on television”.
“Yellow Fever would especially like to thank Rob Morrison and David Dome for their unwavering commitment to this great club. We are proud of how the club have conducted themselves since the FFA first cast a shadow over the club in October 2015” continued Greene. “The way in which the FFA acted has been extremely disappointing and has placed unnecessary stress on fans, but more importantly on the staff, the players and their families”.
“We always felt there was little evidence to support the arguments put forward by the FFA,” said Mr Greene. “Clearly they realised they have ninety-nine problems and the Phoenix ain’t one”.
“We are convinced that the support received during the #SaveTheNix campaign was instrumental in today’s announcement. The enthusiasm from the public, and from Justin Lester and Shane Harmon in particular, has been immense. We would also like to extend our thanks to Eli Mengem and his team at Copa90 for documenting the plight of the club to a global audience”.
“Despite being adversaries in the stands, we have been overwhelmed by the support received from fans in Australia. Next time you’re in Wellington, it’s our shout”.
“The licence uncertainty has taken a toll on fans and the confirmation of a ten year licence means we can finish the season in full voice knowing the Wellington Phoenix have a future in the Hyundai A-League. Starting next Friday. See you there”.

Oh cmon - please don't try and put some depressing spin on this news. It goes without saying that they thank the fans.
a.haak

Excellent result for all... now down to FIFA, AFC, OFC & NZF .... time for FFA & NZF to show their skill and steer this through... my guess FFA to handle FIFA & AFC and NZF to assist with OFC and themselves...
Gotta say well done to the Nix owners they say they can met what is required .. well done to FFA for ensuring the Nix's are seen by other clubs to be contributing ...
Socceroo/ Mariner / Whangarei

But it would have been nice to have seen a "Our fans base has really gotten behind the team away from the games to encourage new fans and promote the club and team" type mention. Still come next Friday night....... We'll be there!

Hardly life or death though, is it?

"A 10-year deal gives us certainty in the club and it's a great result."
Phoenix manager Ernie Merrick credited the '#SaveTheNix' campaign that was backed by fans, and joked that it was nice to know he still has a job next season.

As I posted elsewhere I just can't believe what some people are posting. For farks sake we have an extension it didn't really matter how we have it. Welnix apparantly have opened the purse to get a more than decent player and still people angst.
Brilliant news. Hopefully we can build on this now. If Kosta comes that's great for young kids in the city to see and to aspire to. Onwards and upwards!
Botafogo - Rio de Janeiro and Wellington Phoenix, my two teams til death do us part.
Signing Kosta could be a reality now that we can guarantee we will be here for at least 4 years. Signing other quality players may now also be possible. Exciting times ahead.
