I suppose I'm feeling a little flat at the moment because the Alex Jones stuff-up has taken the edge off. If the licence crap hasn't made us stink in the nostrils of international clubs, that will. We dealt with the FFA problem for now, wonderful, let's get liquored up! But the NZF problem is perhaps more pressing.

With any luck Lowy Jr, Gallop and co will be gone in 4 years anyway and the new bosses will just give us an indefinite license there and then

I wasn't sure what thread to post it under, but it kind of relates to the extension:

On Radio NZ this afternoon, Jesse Mulligan covered the licence extension and talked to RNZ sports reporter.

I wrote my usual "sour rant" email afterwards, and he copied his reply to their sports desk:

Had some more time to read a couple of reports on the extension and I think exciting times are ahead. If true to their word, we can look forward to some good signings of the likes of Roly next year. Logic would say that some of these players they are talking about will be ockers or Kiwis given the limit on foreign players - who might they be?  how many foreigners might we be able to bring in?  would you sacrifice the likes of Roy, Gorrin and Roly if something better was on offer? or even just to give you space?

And I would not let go of Roy, I would rather he becomes a citizen, even if he continues to represent Fiji at national level.

As to Roly, hasn't everyone said he's gone anyway?

He hinted he might want to play elsewhere - at a "higher level" club, presumably where the refs would give him some protection.

Oh ffs who now gives a shark we got fucucking tens years! I never thought we'd get 10 not in a million years., not ever. I thought we were screwed. The NZF bullsh*t is not even in the same league as how the club was effected.

Fudgeing One News, puts our license story 5th in the sports news and introduces it with a sarcastic comment about recent performances.

Seriously, the Nix need to get the mainstream sports media onside in order to promote the brand. Bums on seats and TV viewers must be massively influenced by media coverage so having positive coverage is a must. 

I am with Doloras on this one. The license extension is a big deal alright. But once we all wake up with a nice hangover from hell, and have a double shot coffee or three, we will still need to check how the transfer of top class players - who will now flock in droves to this best little club in the world - will be managed by NZF.

I think everyone needs to step away from the forum occasionally and take a deep breath.

 There is going to be no more transfers until the next window opens, we've pretty much written off this season anyway, plenty of time to come up with a protocol on how to manage transfers with the NZF in future.

Ah, that's the difference. I always thought we were going to get 10, it just depended on how much humiliation and dead rats were would have to swallow. I always thought the people who were predicting doom were just falling for FFA disinformation. So I'm happy with the current news but it's not making me dance around, especially considering what the Birmingham City boss said about us. That'll come back to haunt us.

I do wish however that the metrics were made public. I think the fans are owed that if we are going to be part of the measurement.

I don't want to have four years of the CEO making general statements telling us we need to buck our ideas up if we are going to survive.

Its a bit like saying you have to reach a sales figure to keep your job. Never knowing if you are miles away or if you are doing a dam good job and are top of things

Don't care about NZF - someone will take care of that. Just rapt we can now operate on a level playing field with other clubs re signings etc. Well done Nix.

Found it quite interesting that Rob stated they tabled the idea of a 4-3-3 situation. Depending on the targets they have to set, I reckon it was a smart move as it gave the FFA an chance to save face, while also providing enough certainty for longer term investment.

I can'þ fudgeing win, when I try to be optimistic I get screamed at to fudge off and let people enjoy their angst. Clearly the broad masses don't dig my style, and whether I'm positive or negative makes no difference.

Great news today, but one thing rankles...

I still don't understand how TV coverage and revenues etc is part of the FFA's gripe with the Phoenix - surely that's an issue with SKY TV, rather than the Phoenix club?  If the FFA had a problem with an Aussie network's coverage, would they blame the Victory and the Roar etc?  

If they think SKY don't pay enough for the rights, or that their coverage is average, they should tell them directly... and if it doesn't change, they find another broadcaster that'll do more of what they want... how a football club is somehow responsible for a broadcast company's decisions is beyond me...

But if all of this does lead to an improvement in the broadcasts (pre-match show, Piney with a permanent commentating gig) then that's all good :)

The Phoenix asked to be in control of negotiating the next lot of TV rights on behalf of the FFA as they think they can get a better deal late last year. It used to be the FFAs problem but now it's the nix problem.

Sky wont give a toss. they will probably offer less than they currently are paying.

This is my thought too. Rob wouldn't of signed an unwinnable deal.

Good thing there are other broadcasting options now. 

BeIN sports tweeted about our licence extension, which I found interesting coupled with Robs talk of digital options during the press conference. I could see someone like them buying the rights, then on selling some games to a FTA channel, and broadcasting the rest over the Internet much like PLP have done. 

Lightbox sport could also be a good partner for that. They could pick up rights relatively cheap (compared to other sports), and would have a vested interest in promoting and growing the product within NZ (as opposed to sky who clearly couldn't care less - and fair enough too, they have other products they're more invested in). 

Things are definitely changing when it comes to football rights - Optus have the EPL rights in Australia from next season also

actually BeIN are more likely to on sell the nix games to sky (perhaps in exchange for 'filming' them). Point is, there are more options now. 

Do we have any idea what the magic number around average attendance is?

Or any details about how that works. Ove not been able to find it

Hopefully, this new 10 year deal will give the club enough security to finally ditch the Cake Tin and find a better footballing venue.
