it isn't a great media release if you are a fan

If it was your woman and she admitted (which this press release has) that she was chatting up and flirting for money with every male on the street you would realise she is straying.

She just hasn't got the price she thinks she is worth yet. That's what this press release has said.

Blinkers need to come off some people here

Did you read it i saw a meeting in 2016 and another just made up.Not so sure that is someone who is straying. Thankfully its a football team i support and not a hooker. Maybe you need to put those blinkers on might stop you seeing things that arnt there.

Yes, two years ago and it only talked about what had been written and made public. I have little doubt there have been many more serious discussions in recent times but they don't want to list these.

If you are happy for your football team to be doing this with half your games or much worse going to a different place then keep in being a cheer leader

With all the cr*p dumped on the Nix over the last couple of years by Fox, media in general, and FFA, I have no problem with the idea that Welnix have explored multiple scenerios to keep the club afloat till the owners can seize control of the HAL.
Frankly, AP, I roundly applaud not only the exploratory talks Welnix have had, but their latest media release which is a spirited rebuttle of the garbage out there re the club's future. Bravo, boys! If only the team had shown that kind of fighting spirit during this past season.

MEDIA: Gollooop hits back at 'Wellington Used as whipping boy"

“Rob Morrison knows perfectly well that FFA began talking to the clubs about a new ownership and operating model for the Hyundai A-League in early 2017 – more than a year ago," Gallop said.

FFA: Ourway or no way

“The FFA works on a daily basis with the clubs – including Wellington Phoenix - to improve attendance and television audiences for the Hyundai A-League. It’s a shared responsibility and some clubs are faring better than others," Gallop said.

FFA: Punch out another few Nix Dead press releases ples

"FFA is on the record repeatedly saying it wants a model that provides better returns to existing owners and more attractive to new investors, while taking into account the need to provide funding to the other grassroots programs that are fundamental to the overall health of the game.

FFA is the owner of A-League

"Over the past six months we have repeatedly invited them to resume talks on this. So it is simply wrong to say that FFA is resisting change.

FFA: Open meetings as it is our way or noway. FIFA have spoken lets break for Int windows (Carrots -rotten but a carrots)

"We have begun a process to expand the league and we will continue to engage with stakeholders around a new model for its operation.”

FFA: We lead this dictatorship so fall inline

Opinion piece - Independent league.

If they had responded to the first few in the same manner as this one, in all likelihood they would have either slowed down or stopped. You need to stand up to bullies....

This Article puts the Jets rise in perspective (posting here for some balance)

Jets Take off

"There was a lot of good intentions. It wasn’t all doom and gloom. It was a pretty exciting time at the beginning. When I came back Branko was in charge and it was only recently they’d been in the finals. It was a club that expected to be in the finals."

"Chinese businessman Martin Lee took over the Jets in 2016 after Tinkler went bust."

"We definitely haven’t had those players in the last three or four seasons. So that’s a pat on the back to the people at the club that have made that happen."

"but the big thing that has changed for me has been the recruitment of Ernie and we’ve brought in some key players with experience."

Yes Nix management has bought in key player who never brought into the Team/City. oops think I got the bought n brought round the wong way. Never mind your brain will read it corectly

[quote=Napier Phoenix]

I get that too but I think NZ sports crowds generally are fair weather fans [and I class myself in that category]. The club couldn't carry on the way they have in recent years with poor coach and player selection and general [perceived] disregard for the fans and expect support. They would need to 'piss or get off the pot" if their future in the A League was secure. If they weren't prepared to do so, then they would need to sell to someone that will. Before people start shouting that you don't make any money out of sports teams and who would buy them any way - that's simply not true. There are plenty of people and groups that do and there always seems to be buyers looking for good clubs playing in good competitions that don't throttle their clubs financially and keep all of the cream themselves.

[quote=coochiee]

How many HAL teams make a profit, of don’t run at loss currently?

[quote=Blew.2]

 "ZERO" that is why Nix are backing (at a cost in the media/FFA) The Independent A-League so strongly

[quote=coochiee]

Even the Victory with their home crowds of over 20K, can't make a profit, I think little prospect Nix really ever will. Sure Independent A-League will make a difference..........

That's why confused by NP's comments above. There are no other NZ buyers of the Nix. That's unless Terry S resurfaces!

The only buyers are in Australia (new expansion applicants), and they will move team to Australia, ie want the licence only.

As Dome said on podcast if it wasn't for current owners (and you can criticise them all you want), the club will just fold as a NZ entity. I don't think current owners disregard the fans at all. Also there is no 'cream' for them to keep, if that's what you are inferring.

Sorry getting off topic in this coaching thread.

[quote=Napier Phoenix]

I'm not convinced of that Coochie. If the A League is restructured so clubs can make money - there will be buyers. They might not necessarily be from NZ but the Nix don't have to be owned by a NZ group anyway, as long as the team is based here, why should we care?

Why do you think there are of these other groups lining up bids to join the A League?

I don't much detail about each of the individual 10? proposed expansion bids. But I'd say

some back themselves to get bigger crowds than Nix currently get - so higher gate revenue,

some will have an element of state govt/local govt underwriting, and

some will be backed by a rich dude(ette) who doesn't mind if his/her team runs at a loss.

They will also know that the FFA does have a history, of bailing out Australian teams if they get in financial poo. Of course FFA may not be running A League much longer.

I don't know if any of the bidders plan to make big profits from having an A League team.

Yes I will admit that I think we've been pretty unlucky with some of the imports/Kosta in the last couple of seasons. Particularly last season (2016/17) I would say things went about as badly as possible. Yes the balance of the team wasn't quite right but it was definitely still a top 6 squad at the start of last season. Hopefully the new coach can work with the owners to get the right players who will buy into the team fully.

[quote=james dean]

Who can say there are no NZ buyers when the club is not for sale?

I believe owners when they say club/licence ain't for sale to anyone, (eg new A League expansion bidder) who just wants the licence to setup their new team in Australia.

However if a NZ buyer/consortium, approached the Welnix and said we want to buy the Nix, and keep them in Wellington - I'm sure the owners would be all ears. Not saying they would sell, but given they are bleeding cash into the football club monthly, and a guy like Morgan obviously wants out - for the right price a deal could be done.

Any rich enough Kiwi, who loves football, and would want to buy/buy into the Nix would know that. Yet from what we know no-one in NZ has tabled an offer to Welnix. Sounds like no one in NZ has even offered, to buy a part share in the Nix, or come in as a new investor - which is why Morrison has openly said they are looking to Australia for investors/equity partners/white knights.

Do you know anyone in NZ, who would be game enough to buy the Nix, or buy a part share?? Likely candidates very thin I the ground I imagine.

Two that do very randomly spring to mind for me, are not born Kiwis - but have solid football ties now to NZ. Both probably very much longshots, but wouldn't hurt for Rob to give them a ring! Don't ask, don't know.

Haruhisa Handa - obviously sponsors the Handy Prem, is very rich, and once was the major sponsor of South African PSL club team Mpumalanga Black Aces for two years. Being a sponsor is different to becoming a club owner/part owner, but Handa san seems a very random sort of dude, with all sorts of different sponsorships &  philanthropic causes.

https://www.nzherald.co.nz/sport/news/article.cfm?...

Viatcheslav (Slava) Meyn - another rich dude who loves football. Set up Christchurch Football Academy, and mutimillion dollar sports facility in the Garden City. At a guess seems more a guy who likes to setup projects, than buy a football team, but again who knows.

Seems like they have burnt their bridges with the FFA.  And all's bet on the change in governance.

When you've got no plan B, and you are out in front in the vangaurd for the other club managers, it's a fight to the death, and fighting talk just might be appropriate.

lets be honest - there really were no bridges with the FFA to start with. We have always been and always will be on the outer with the FFA. The only bridge (so to speak) is a draw bridge that lowers when the FFA want to threaten us or demand something they demand of no other club.

Getting rid of the FFA and having the clubs run the comp has been the only way forward for the nix from the get go.

With the recent statements by the Nix, It appears there is no going back now.

Without an independent a league it appears the owners now take the view the Nix is finished. At least that what it appears from the outside.

It would appear that things the Nix may have said privately to the FFA in the past, or just put up with, they will no longer.

It appears we are going to have open warfare between the NIX and FFA until either the Independent A league arrives or the Nix die.

All a bit unseemly, but from a media perspective it should raise the profile of the nix.

Could get ugly though.

I'd rather go out swinging than meekly fade away in two years, personally. He's just stating the reality of the situation, which I have no issue with. FFA need to be called out.

To be honest; it's probably a good ploy considering the rest of the club owners are thinking similar.

Yes, ugly, but the media loves a good bun fight and we need to keep punching back. If the media starts to see us as a scrappy underdog, not just a bunch of losers who have accepted our looming 'death' sentence, we could yet swing public opinion to our side.

And that's exactly how I think everyone thinks of us as. This may even make more Aussies turn up to games against us, thinking "hold on, let's smash them and kick them out for good".

The big question.

Will an independent Hal, run by the current clubs introduce P & R.

Reading the article and looking at NZ history to date in the A-League it seems whats wanted from the NZ perspective is an MLS type structure with all clubs guaranteed a place forever regardless of performance both on an off the field. Essentially a closed tier franchise model.  With each club regardless of performance receiving equal distributions of revenue.

The push by the State Feds, and the NPL clubs is for P & R to be introduced between 2024 & 2027. Further there is a push that any future broadcast deal involve a % to the second division to help build it up. Again would the existing clubs take on board the idea of funding a second division.

Lets assume, club ZZZZZZZ get an average of 10 people to a match, never wins a game, and has a goal difference of 8 goals a game. Do they stay in ?????? if the answer is no .... then at what level do you draw the line ????

I'd be surprised if any owners would support P&R without arm twisting, they have to protect the asset that they own and the drop down between a professional A-League and a semi professional NPL is just too big.

The A-League needs to focus on growing to fifteen - twenty teams before they even start to think about P&R.

Not until they become financially viable

Was MLS structure mentioned or is that your personal view from reading Not going back to re-read

If theu are viable and able to win the play offs if P & R to be introduced between 2024 & 2027

Broadcasting deal for their games is theirs to negotiate if 2nd tier is an independent league

If a 2nd tier is to be financed by the HAL it will all fail.

Until the 2nd tier clubs are secure and set up for 2024/2017.  Yes hold place

NOTE: This should go to Independent A-League thread
