Jeremy Brockie interview on D'arcy Waldegrave drive at 5:20pm.  Pre-recorded interview - says is interested in coming here if Ricki gives him a call.

Brockie confuses me like Boy George did in the 80's

Don't know if he'd work in the Nix.. His goals this season were great, thats for sure, but what else did he do?Azevo2012-04-10 15:11:56

We will never fully decide who has won the football.

Apart from J Brockie

Mario Simic, Tarek Elrich, Sung Hwan Byun, Labinot Haliti, keeper Matthew Nash, Ali Abbas and skipper Ryan Griffiths, Francis Jeffers, Jeremy Brockie.
Discussed a few pages back.
I think Griffiths has been re-signed. Maybe Abbas to? not sure on that one.
Not all that interested in this lot.
Lot of players being released this season.
Good time for Unicorns to start, get to take their pick from the mass exodus of Heart, Jets, and GCU.

Interestingly, Cazarine is Sydney's most prolific striker (goals to game ratio) of all time according to Wiki.

On the bright side of this whole Newcastle affair James Brown is available again...

Aren't they all going home to Europe? Not exactly transfer speculation if there's no chance at all they'll be coming to Wellington

I'd happily take Brockie, although i'm not sure he is worth what he is apparently demanding.

He's young, he's quick and he's a Kiwi.....

Of course we should sign him in a flash.....

Which means of course we won't........

Nostalgia isnt what it used to be...........

He could come in and replace Leo's starting spot, and offer more than Ward & Daniel do.

Dont do it Ricki.

The last thing we need is another lazy wide player.

Actually that's the key for me. Whether Herbert backs himself to get inside Brockie's head and change up his attitude.

Maybe the culture at the Phoenix and playing with some of his All Whites team mates (and coach) would be good for him?

Ricki has a habit of resurrecting players. (he's also had some misses too)

I think Brockie and James Brown would be sweet signings.

If you look at a highlights package of Brockie he looks awesome. If you watch a game with him in it then not so much. I agree with those who say we could do better

Anyone know definitively how many import spots allowed for next season ?

@BrendanSchwab quick question mate, how many foreign spots available for clubs next season? 4 or 5?
[QUOTE=@BrendanSchwab]
@sydneyfc_FTT The plan was to reduce to 4; clubs want to keep at 5. @FFA now agrees, and should be OK with @thepfa if 10 teams in 12/13

I think Brockie would fit better as a striker rather than a winger. Has a bit of pace, good in the air (which we are really lacking, especially on defensive corners) and can score goals. I'd definitely have him here but it does depend on how much he wants. rjmiller2012-04-11 10:04:38

Are you talking about Brockie or Smeltz? Because I'd jump at either.

I guess nothing to stop the Nix taking Brockie on a figure he might not like but will accept... with an out-clause if there's a better offer for him from overseas.
Gainful employment for Brockie, free to go to any better offer over threshold he likes, Nix makes money on a transfer..win win.

Improving,,on the up, a work in progress from Italiano and the Nix. Bring on the bathroom bling in '24! COYN!

Brockie would be a great asset to the team, he and Ifill upfront would work well I reckon

This!!! Genius.
If Brockie isn't as good as he thinks he is and can't pull another job then we get him. Brockie gets some income insurance... Win win.

If the Jets really have told all their players to look for new clubs, James Brown would be worth a look. He's scored some cracking goals this season, and with a bit of training he could be everything Pav isn't.

He's got good footwork, that's for sure

Plus if he took Timmy's number then anyone with a replica stripey with Brown on the back would still be relevant

He is more a midfielder than striker.

Since GCU is officially gone, we should be putting a contract in front of Ben Halloran. I think just Halloran and Thwaite still had contracts with GCU.

I feel like if Brockie was recruited, Ricki would use him more as a winger than a striker. Could see us going back to the 433, which wouldnt be terrible.

I personally dont think Brockie is a pure striker, and needs more ball to be effective, which is something our strikers dont get a lot of.

Wasn't there some rumor linking Halloran to Perth?
Actually now that I think about it that doesn't seem all that likely.

I am reserved on him, though he was great vs. Jamaica though.

Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

He might just be a great player when put amongst a good team, and not a great individual player who carries a team.

Halloran was reported to be heading overseas for a trial when he recovered from injury. Can't recall where.

He scored 9 goals for the 7th placed team. What more do you want him to do? wear the goalkeeping gloves?

Apart from scoring goals we would want him to...
Hold the ball up for support to arrive
Force the defence line deeper by the threat of his pace
Draw defenders to create space for other players
Create chances with passes (and heads and chests) to other players
Provide team mates options to play the ball forward
Harass defenders on the ball or deny them good passing channels
Track back when needed
Command the penalty area on defensive corners

Being able to fill in at right back is a bonus ;)

Ok well done you have described the overall role of a striker.

Now if you wanted a striker who scored goals regularly and was very strong at all of these then you have limited yourself to about 2-3 strikers in the a-league, and I dont think the Phoenix are willing to pay Smeltz and Berischa the money they are receiving.

Yes we could look overseas but with our track record that can be quite a gamble, we could get another Ifill or the other extreme, Toto.

As well as scoring 9 goals he also had 4 assists which means he was involved in almost 1/3 of Newcastles goals this season. I dont think he is quite as lazy for a striker as people are suggesting. A lot of strikers go missing for a while and then pop up and score. A lot of people consider that a sign of a good striker. Someone who takes their chances.

Hence the reason they are a striker and not a mdifielder. There are also strikers who dont score regualarly but are hard working. Very rarely are they both.

If we arent happy with Brockie as a signing, then I can see people being very dissapointed this year with any of our new signings.
