its been mentioned numerous times, but 11 goals in 8 games for George Slefendorfas must surely put him in contention? 3 yellows + a red means he might take a bit of heat off our 'enforcers' too

With regards to Payne; would sooner come last than see him here, Bastard.
Hope he gets signed by someone else though... He still hasn't had to face the Yellow Fever Tribunal in the Ring Of Fire where he will receive his eternal punishment for ninety minutes.
I really want to abuse him, just thinking about makes me angry.

I've watched every Canterbury home game this season and in my opinion his goal scoring record is a bit deceiving. He makes a lot of rash and stupid tackles and I'm really surprised he hasn't picked up a couple more Reds to be honest. A bit of a Fallon type, elbows up. Plus 8 of those goals have come from 2 games, he's either hot or not. Anyway, not up to Phoenix standard in my opinion.

Zucco?

Apparently signed to Team Wellington - our feeder team

Watched Zucco v Auckland City the other week and my recollection is that he did absolutely nothing until injury time when he had a decent shot. On that viewing alone, I don't think he'd be good enough, but was just one performance.

He took a couple of goals very well in the Nix - TW game a few weeks back though.

This.

Payne heads on spikes I say!

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Phoenix fans. We have to win them over one fan at a time.

Does the White kid from Canterbury look any good. Coach rates him and Canterbury are definately hitting the back of the net at the moment?

Would love to read / hear about a young 16 year old ripping it up at NZFC level.

Jeremy Brockie scores again. Speculation went a bit quiet on him coming to the Nix, but if he's still firing them in I'd welcome him with open arms. I'd start him ahead of Leo Bertos any day of the week.

Definitely take Brockie. Would be decent as, fit into our squad pretty well.

Im not so sure..granted he's scored some half decent goals, however he does go a bit missing at times nad we already have our quota of players that do that. one more may be just too much

I'd take him and convert him to an attacking RB.

Thought he did brilliantly there for the All Whites. Then if we havea few injuries up top he can move further forward.

Don't think his touch is good enough to be a really classy forward.

Yeah I had a look at some video of him on youtube but it wasn't particularly impressive. Also seemed more of a winger/creative player and with Daniel, Bertos, Sanchez, Ifill, and Pantelis available for next year that's an area where we are well covered. Would take a foriegn spot by the looks of it too.

Still I'm gonna stay positive and think that he might turn out to be that mythical gun striker who the villagers whisper about around their campfires on long winter nights.

He had a trial with Real Salt lake in the MLS last year, but they didn't want to pay a transfer for him. So I wouldn't be surprised if he went back there looking for a MLS contract.

Hmm big shake up at Melbourne then, clearing the old wood.
That'll make off season recruitment interesting.

Off contract Victory players according to that article: Rodrigo Vargas, Tom Pondeljak and possibly Grant Brebner, Jean Carlos Solorzano, Diogo Ferreira
Don't really rate any of these players enough to want to see them at the 'Nix.
What do you guys reckon?

I don't think any of them improve the strating lineup. We probably need cover for central defence next season so Vargas, if he was very cheap, could be option. But at the same time would prefer looking elsewhere first and don't really want to take players on big paycuts.

Hernadez is a flawed genius - genuis at least genius for the a-league. He's the type of player you really have to plan around. Good but I don't think he would fit in here.

Would take up more money than he's worth IMO, would rather that money went to a striker if we have Sanchez, Ifill, Pantelis, Daniel etc.
Solorzano could be a good option if we have an import spot available. Recruitment depends so much on how much Ricki values Smith, and whether Greenacre is worth another season, if he didn't take an import spot it would be a definate yes for me. As for Smith, no point replacing someone who's doing well unless another option comes up who we know will do well in the A-League. With all the hype around Smith right now, I think we'd do well to tie him up while we can.

I bet Grant Brebner doesn't get another contract!

Who is this Uruguayan Alejo Saravia on trial at the moment? There's a photo of him with Lia  here
http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/en/alejo-saravia/profil/spieler_76779.html

This says he is a striker from Rocha FC in the 2nd tier in Uruguay, but not much else.

Last with Huracan, also of the Uruguayan second division.

This article says he has travelled to NZ with a "firm possibility of contract by a team of that country"

Seems a bit unlikely to me.. Maybe they mean Team Wellington!

As an interesting side note, the most successful club in the Uruguayan 2nd Division is a team called Fenix.

They speak Spanish in Uruguay so he's obviously going to ACFC.

Don't mean to have a go at people,
But can we please please please stop mentioning once-great players who are now free agents and will NEVER play for us?
Welnix have made it clear we won't get a marquee player anytime soon which leaves out the likes of Pires, Kanu, Hleb etc etc just to name a few.
Perhaps we should open a new thread and call it 'wishful thinking' or something like that
