Listen out for some discussion of this in the upcoming V6 of the Fever poddy.

Jets have confirmed Tarek Elrich has not been offered a new contract, so I would say he is the most likely RB in the league that we would have signed.

Brockie didn't get a new contract either.

Piney says it is unlikely that Brockie will come to the Phoenix, Asia or USA more likely.

Oh fuck.

Just remembered Jamie Coyne is unemployed as I listen to Podcast right back stuff...

Although I'd rather it wasn't so, if the right back is to be Australian then Elrich is our best bet.

My preference would be to drop Smith or Sanchez and get a decent pacy RB from overseas.

Still no word on the other re-signs? Have we confirmed either Smith or Sanchez yet?

Smith and Sanchez seem to be on hold as we look at other options.

Not great for them but good for club aspirations.

The last time we picked up a disgruntled defender from the Jets it worked out well for us. In fact, the situation is remarkably similar. I would think Brockie would love to prove a point to the paymasters in Newcastle too. It'll be a shame if he ends up well paid but in some backwater or on the bench somewhere he never gets a chance to play his way into an All-white jersey.

would have prefferred Neville over Elrich. But hopefully if we do pick up Tarek then he can fit into the team structure.

I would get residency / citizenship if I was Brockie - would open up a lot more options in Asia I would think?

So you missed out on getting to say how rubbish Coyne is?

Out of loyalty to the players I disagree, it does seem a bit rich to be looking to step up our quality after their arrival contributed to a solid run in crappy situations/winning on the road. I've been burned by our ambitions before News, I'm still too tender to trust this won't back fire.

Didn't he say he didn't want to go to another A-League team in one of the pod casts?  But possibly will consider going to the Heart?

aaaw. I'm going to miss Daniel.

Will not forget everything he has done for the club, the fans and NZ football over the last 5 years.

Go on Ricki, give him an All whites cap for old timey sakes.

We should name a street after him.  Newtown would be a good place (home of the club).

So, an English striker, yes please, we have been well served by Ifill and Greenacre, another of that class would be good. Hope you find him there Ricki

Where will the right back come from now that the Aussie chance has gone ??

Muscat might have to play Right Back - I'm thinking it was Neville who Ricki had wanted??

Elrich could be a chance, but it'd be interesting to look at using the foreign spot on a strong wingback

If it really is Tarek Elrich we are after, he is still available.

From an opinion piece in the SMH. Wont be a marquee Ricki is looking at in the UK if this is right

"Cumulative losses of about $25 million over the past two seasons have made even billionaire owners think twice about their wage bill. So much so that next season at least three clubs - Adelaide United, Perth Glory and Wellington Phoenix - will move their marquee players inside the salary cap. That doesn't mean Shane Smeltz and Paul Ifill will take a pay cut, but it does mean there will be less on the table for everyone else."

Wonder if we would even consider Flores? Proven record at this level, exactly the type of player Ricki has always wanted.

Would new owners be willing to splash a bit of cash? I'd be a bit dissapointed if we didnt at least make an enquiry

Part of the reason why Adelaide are willing to let SvD leave, is so they they can make a play to get Flores back. I would be very happy with either, but it sounds like SvD wants to go back home.

SvD would be great for us!!

"It's understood Versleijen, whose defensive structure cannot seemingly accommodate Flores, would not stand in the playmaker's way should he wish to leave China a year before his contract expires."

I can't help but feel that the same situation could develop here. Ricki is a very defensive minded coach, even if we get a sweet CAM how will Ricki fit him into his tactic? We saw Sanchez ineffective on the left wing for much of the season, is it possible that another talented player could be destined for the same fate?

Ricki often likes to play with two DMs so a 4-2-3-1 could be a go, this does force Ifill onto the left wing

If Muscat moves to DM would he be enough on his own to shield the defense in a 4-1-2-1-2?

Too many questions, not enough signatures. Would love to see a talent like Flores here but the new owners want to keep it in the salary cap and I couldn't see that happening. We certainly couldn't offer anything comparable to 800k.

But that's nonsense, since Iffy isn't a marquee.

Elrich had an offer on the table from a rival A-League club, believed to be Wellington, before yesterday’s axing.

His preference would be to move closer to his family in western Sydney, but he will not rush into a decision.

‘‘I am going to Bali on Wednesday for a holiday,’’ he said. ‘‘A bit of time away will do me good.

‘‘I will wait on the Sydney clubs [Sydney FC and the new West Sydney franchise] and see who they appoint as coaches.’’

http://www.theherald.com.au/news/local/sport/football-soccer/elrich-shocked-at-jets-dismissal/2547757.aspx?storypage=3

Some competition for Elrich, I imagine both sydney teams would bite. Sydney were courting Scott Neville and Western Sydney generally needs players.

If he has family there we could be in for an up hill battle.

Are there are other non-foreign right backs in or around the league worthy of a shirt?         ...           ...         and by that I mean besides Chris Coyne...

Alex said he had to go home for visa reasons

Chris Millar is considering a move to Australia after rejecting the offer of a new contract at St Johnstone.

Millar has been with Saints for four years after joining from Morton.

"I dare say some people will think that I am silly to refuse the offer of a two-year deal," Millar told the St Johnstone website.

"Time will tell if it is a good or bad decision although I have to stress that I have not shut the door on Saints completely."

The 29-year-old, who has not received a firm offer from another club, has sought advice from former St Johnstone players about a possible transfer Down Under.

I think that was his NZ visa? Can't remember exactly, but it sounded like he was headed back to Sydney in that interview.
