God you talk bollocks. The onfield product is horrible. The one time we get a regular league game on TV, it was insipid crap football - certainly nothing to ATTRACT fans to go watch. By reflection, your team of imports play a lot better but if its only one team, how does this help to grow the league, as you stated a couple of pages back? The TW v Canty game was completely fucking awful and backs the point that if you want fans (both for Phoenix and ASB games) make the product worth watching, not find a new location to play it at.
To call ASBP football "insipid crap" is pretty insulting to all the players involved and shows a complete lack of perspective. You seem to be too bitter and twisted to appreciate what's in front of you. I bet you're fun.
Right, and if I insult Auckland over 30s div 5 is that insulting to them if that's the best level they can play at? Seriously man, get your hand off it.
Just a minute. There is a sad hunched figure who is always loudly complaining about everything from the sidelines at Kiwitea St in a broad Northern British accent. It couldn't be...could it JV? You really need to lighten up old boy.

Keith Braithwaite and Declan Edge aren't there most games is they?
I'm a Kiwi sir.

Shaun Derry was on the radio this morning saying he would not mind playing in the A League. Plays in the middle of the pitch and knows Ifill. Worth a phone call Ricki or at least get Ifill to do your spade work for you? Good for a season or 2 maybe?

Bit long in the tooth isn't he? Remember Derry when he played for Palace. A good combative midfielder. I think the Phoenix need a more creative player.

The Peacock is well past it, he's just a more streetwise Manny Muscat
I accept the age is not great. He would bring about a bit more in the midfield and it would allow us to employ 1 DM and 1AM and not be stuck in the position we are in now whereby we play better with a stacked midfield of 3 (whom seem shoehorned in as a sum of spare parts). A quality DM, a quality AM and attacking options (and allow Manny to shore up RB) I think would look better for us. Even if for 2 seasons, its not a terrible option with his pedigree.

Someone like Billy Mehmet wouldve been good, dont know why Ricki didnt like him when he trialled with us

Didn't meet our no cocks policy

Wouldn't mind a mongrel though to be honest
Also, if the no cocks policy is stopping us signing good players then maybe it needs to be re-thought.  If we have a cr@p team of nice guys that's not great...some of the best players in the league are complete bell ends.  May make the managers job easier to not have to deal with difficult players but that's why they call it management really
Have been told (by a player-who-shall-not-be-named, funnily enough JD)  that Smith and Muscat don't meet the 'no cocks policy' or even come close so as much as people like to think our recruitment is based on that, with the way these two came in, clearly no such 'policy' exists.

Name your source, name your source I DEMAND YOU NAME YOUR SOURCE
Well that's interesting.  Has always been a bit of an excuse for not signing various players
But it does seem that the team is generally very close off the field and that is no bad thing

Oh come on, has anyone ever really regarded that as a serious policy? Has always seemed nothing more than forum banter to me.

I thought it was one that Hard News kinda trotted out when the Joel Griffiths/Robbie Kruse rumours were about.

Well of course he did, plenty of us have trotted out the no cocks policy when transfer rumours have arisen, but that's why we don't pick the squad. I'd be seriously disappointed if professional decisions were made on that basis alone.

Lol at the no cocks policy being taken seriously...

In Magic Johnsons book, they were saying at the Lakers in their heydays of the 80's, the Lakers looked at character first cause everyone had talent that was not much different from the next guy. It was those guys that sat at the end of the squad, if they had a bad attitude, they they would infect the others. I know its not a real comparison to what we are talking about but their are some sports franchises that do look at that first.

Probably not the best example (just one that I know of) but the Blackcaps selection has a % (albeit small) of the selection criteria for the player's character. Like I said poor example but it's unlikely the Blackcaps are trend setting in pro sport with that.

I think the talk of a no cocks policy on here might have lead people to believe it actually exists.

You're doing well if you don't have one or two fuckheads in your team even if you do actively try to recruit that way.

Fuck this stupid game

I think I'm getting it now.  The cocks we sign are good cocks, the cocks we don't sign (or who leave) are bad cocks?

Would be good if another club was to sign Beckham, then we could sign nearly any Scottish international we want, who would love to come and break his legs.

I vote we sign him so that every 2nd article about football in NZ isn't 'Clapham to the Nix'

Any other news on the striking front?

Clapham doesn't fit the no cocks policy. Thinks he is a lot better than he is, attitude is not there. My mate works at a bar in CHCH and has gotten into a few arguments with Clapham when he says that he deserves a pro contract and pulls out the "How many World Cups have you been to" card. Tbh I wouldn't want him here.

Probably covered elsewhere, but we signed the GK with the coolest name in the league - Griffin McMaster, who will replace Moss (hernia) for the next month

If I was confronted by some dick in a bar and he was annoying the shit out of me, I would probably say the same too.

My mate is the barman there, not some confronting dick in a bar annoying the shit out of people... and all the other staff I know that work there agree.

It is possible to be a barman and a confronting dick annoying the shit out of people.

Just saying (and I don't know your mate or Aaron Clapham).

no offence to AC, but on twitter he often does seem to overly promote himself, doesnt to seem that extra hunger that comes across with a lot of the other young lads I follow.

If he wanted pro football really badly, I reckon he could find it somewhere, but he doesnt to seem to have that drive

Would put my money on this answer. He's undeniably got some talent but Ricki always seems to dismiss any talk of signing him.

Herbert is hunting for an attack-minded midfielder, with Tom Biss (academy) and Aaron Clapham (Canterbury United) both options.

I thought we were looking for a striker? Especially with Sanchez about to return.

Any chance of strengthening our midfield with someone not out of the academy? I mean I'd like us to start shooting up the table, and I think it is the midfield where we are solid, but could definitely improve our team.

I'll go out on a limb and say we don't need any more strikers, but we do need a solid mega-fit, tackling, passing and creating type midfielder or another good option of some kind. Is Cam Lindsay every going to get a look in? Is he really that far behind Tyler Boyd?

Clapham>> Biss, but we want someone >Clapham? Would Clapham do a job? I don't think he's stand out in the way that Siggie was.
