Phoenix Transfer Speculation 2013/14

The scariest thing Metalleg, is that I doubt anyone at the club is doing such a thing. They probably think that the new coach will wave his arms and bring some gun players with him

Auckland will rise once more

On the striker debate.. I think a lot depends on how many strikers the new coach wants to play. If it just 1 central with two wingers, then I think Brockie, Huysgems & Boyd are enough. Plus Ifill or even totori if we are desperate.

If the coach wants two up fron then maybe bring another guy in but still not sure we need more strikers.

Obviously need a holding mid to balance carlos.

But also think we dont have a starting quality winger

See I see Brockie and Stein starting. Whether you play 1, 2 or 3 up front, both of those guys will start. The other spot is Fenton/Ifill depending on Ifills' fitness and its improvement and Fenton's development. Boyd is not a starting option.

Boyd & Fenton should probably both be on the bench for me.

Fenton can cover Central and wide midfield

Boyd can cover striker & winger

Ifills fitness is a major factor on his contribution next year. If Fenton does develop then that makes Ifill the impact player I think. I think Fenton also offers a bit more versatility than Boyd. I can see Fenton playing wide and central, similar to Ifill. If Fenton does not develop then I think Ifill is your starter.

I see Boyd as a wide man only. Plant him on a wing and leave him there. Don't for gods sake, put him near the goal.

I think we are on a similar wavelength. The X factor is if Ifill comes in lighter and in shape.

Boyds actually more of a central player - scored quite a few goals in preseason which lead to his signing. He didnt get many chances playing as a striker - remember the game against adelaide where he did lead the line and made some great movement off the ball and made a great goal for sanchez. If he put away that goal then perhaps his season would have been different with that confidence and the first goal out of the way

The talk about strikers was incidental - obviously I agree that it is our midfield that needs a heart bypass.

By the way, does anybody know if any of current contracts have already lapsed (and were not renewed)?

I think he is a central player at the next level down. A league defences are too good for him right now. I look at him more like Kosta. He still has lots of developing to do but I can't see him getting there next year for sure.

Saw Ifill a couple weeks ago looking very trim. Spoke to him on Twitter and he said that he wants to get a lot fitter for next season.

Good from HN but I still think "Fuck this stupid game" is right up there. Probably says more about my sense of humour though.

The context surrounding that post made it even funnier. Two days after the 2-0 loss to WSW, and four days before the game we do not speak of. Hilarious.

Yeah context was everything. The amount of well structured essay length angsty posts around that time coming from all angles then to have that one line dropped in by a near non-existent forumer.

That is pretty damn good too, I'll admit

It'd be a win-win for Benji because he gets the same money as if he worked for a year but is free to go and get a job elsewhere. He may say "no" just to angle for an extra bit $$$ to wipe his tears, but would not be too difficult. Otherwise he'd find himself unemployable by any other club if he refused to play ball with WelNix over this (yes, I know it is a contradiction in terms but you know what I mean by that metaphore).

Paying him out is not the same thing as terminating his contract although the end result could be the same.

I say could because I am assuming that if the Nix pay him the full remuneration due for the term of the contract then it has fulfilled its
contractual obligations and the contract has, in effect, been completed and is ended.

Of course it's impossible to know for sure if paying him out fully discharges the Nix's obligations and ends the contract unless you are privy to the terms and conditions of the contract.

Apologies fir a post out of the blue. I was replying to this old post in the thread.

I have no idea. I have no idea how overweight he is. Admittedly "stone" is an outlier.

Don't know if anyone picked up on this but Boxall has been loaned out to the Oakleigh Cannons in the Victoria Premier League.

Saw that in the press release this morning.  I hadn't had a look at the VPL website for a few weeks, wonder how long he has been over there. Good to see him grabbing the chance for some game time.
