Don't know if anyone picked up on this but Boxall has been loaned out to the Oakleigh Cannons in the Victoria Premier League.

Saw that in the press release this morning.  I hadn't had a look at the VPL website for a few weeks, wonder how long he has been over there. Good to see him grabbing the chance for some game time.

Went on the Oakleigh website but no stories about him. Appeared in a couple of team line-ups though so I'd say he's been there for a couple of weeks already.

Good from HN but I still think "Fuck this stupid game" is right up there. Probably says more about my sense of humour though.

The context surrounding that post made it even funnier. Two days after the 2-0 loss to WSW, and four days before the game we do not speak of. Hilarious.
Yeah context was everything. The amount of well structured essay length angsty posts around that time coming from all angles then to have that one line dropped in by a near non-existent forumer.

You talking bout me??  (insert shifty eyes emoticon here)

I am almost non exist in terms of posts, but always reading the forums, daily...

Yep! one of many I imagine.

Quality over quantity though, right?

Back on topic. Who do you think we will or should sign as back up keeper to Mossy.

I know everyone keeps saying the ship has sailed, but I really liked Spoonley when he played this year vs Heart.

He seems to have matured a lot and looked very decent. Question is, would he want to leave Auckland city to sit on our bench?

Otherwise, what about one of the kids? I hear Scott B may be going overseas? On a scholarship in the US?

There are at least 2-3 other youngsters floating around so I wonder if it'll be one of them.

O'Keefe also worth a shout.

I'd get them all together for a reality show where the winner gets a contract as the nix reserve keeper.

The final challenge is a game of volleyball where the gks can only punch - Pastry returns as the ref

Spoonley's been sitting on the Auckland City bench for the last few months so why not move south and get a professional contract if offered?

Moss hasn't exactly been injury free for the last few years either so we'd want a decent reserve keeper to step in.

I would give O'Keefe a shot. Not sure Basalaj would be ready to step up, if he doesn't head off to college. Another option is Reddy, who is back playing the NSWPL for Sydney united.

Get the impression spoonley is one of Ricki's boys. I certainly don't think he is the second best keeper in NZ so I doubt he'll be in the mix.

Sitting on an Amateur bench compared to sitting on a professional bench. No brainer right?

Isn't he a lawyer? It might be more of a case of $50k vs $100k+ and further career boost.

A lawyer? Bloody hell, he's doing well then.

Yeah I think he only finished his studies in the last 12 months.

I have no issue if he is our number 2... Not sure whom you think is better domestically 2B

Having not seen ACFC play much I'd assume Williams is better than him. In the ASBP, reckon Imray is (can't remember if he is a resident here now though), Scott Basalaj probably at least as good.  Overseas, pretty confident that O'Keffee is.

He isn't a Kiwi, but Reddy seemed to enjoy himself over here. Doubt any A-League club would touch him now, we could get him pretty cheap out of the NSWPL.

O'Keefe

Gleeson (no point getting him on loan if he doesn't play though)

Spoonely

Marinovic .. nope

I think Spoonley and Ramon may have a had a falling out - I've heard from someone at the club it's a percieved attitude problem but then Ramon may just be a Spanish Ricki

Mulligan, Coombes, Morgan, McGeorge all left.... I suspect there is a little fire in amongst all that smoke.

Can someone fill me in on all the O'Keefe love. Who is he, what's he doing, what's he done?

Keeper that just graduated from Fairfield College in the US but was not drafted. He was called up as cover for Paston in the OFC Nations Cup and started for the u23 side at the Olympics because Gleeson was hurt.

Barring one big cock up he was pretty bloody good at the Olympics. I was really impressed.

I thin Ivan Vicelic begs to differ.
I know Spoonley has been on the bench for a while, but he's been playing for ACFC for years and has certainly gained more satisfaction by winning titles for them (including O-League) thank being no.3 at the Nix.

I saw highlights of a few O-League games and Tamati Williams looked good too, but I don't know him well enough.

Of all the names that have been thrown in the mix, I'd prefer Reddy as he did very well for us.
Surely some other A-League club will snap him up first??

EDIT: If Imray was elibigle as a domestic player I'd definitely sign him up. He's probably a bit old to start a career as a professional but he definitely has the talent to keep at A-League level

Reddy seemed to have his best spell of games in the A-League in his stint with us. I'd have him back, alcoholic or not.

Would definitely take Reddy back.

I'm not sure I would want a young Kiwi sitting on the bench for an entire season, better to have someone like Reddy getting splinters on the sideline.
Basalaj showed last season that there is no substitute for game time, he got better and better as the season went on.

True, Reddy was very good for us but he is still one of the most disaster-prone keepers in A League history and frankly a bit of a loon to boot. My impression was that a lot of the success of Reddy here was attributable to the Phoenix team culture under Ricki which got him properly focused on his game and tempered that bonkers personality of his.

I met him at Brisbane airport about 4 years ago. Brain dead.

I know what you mean - the difficulty is if you want to break into pro-football as a keeper you're not going to go straight from the ASBP into a starting spot as a keeper, at some point you have to make the jump fro amateur to pro.  You're then only an injury away from starting.  Very difficult for young keepers though, hardest place to break in, especially as you get into the conundrum of needing experience but not being able to get it anywhere.

LOL! I met Bryan Robson at a Notting Hill bar a few years ago - and he seemed pretty brain dead too. But he was on his lonesome, and he had been on the Bolly.

I think Spoonly did well in the one game he played for us and is deserving of a chance. And if not him then Basalaj.

Both players will come alot cheaper than Reddy as well which will free up funds in other areas for the squad and both I believe are capbale of making the step up.

Why save an Aussies career when you can kickstart a kiwi's.

But where else would O'Keefe end up if he wasn't playing for us??? I'd rather him being on the bench for us than in some crappy American league
