Phoenix Transfer - speculation (Part 1)
I think we have got Coveny for that. old and experienced. Don't know how many more oldies we want in the club. I wouldn't mind him coming but I don't think we want him for just his experience, we want goals goals goals. And if Dadi isn't capable of starting every game then don't sign some one who is just going to be a good role model.
If we want a good role model then lets just sign Wynton

Surge, that's just crazy talk. Where are we gonna find a striker...........

mate, I love your optimism but you make it sound far too easy. The reason why we need to sign 2 quality striker asap is because if we don't hurry up all the best ones will be taken by some other team. And I'm not just talking about the A-League. With globalisation, every professional player is being watched by some team somewhere.
So we need to secure the services of some good striker who would net a good 10+ goals for us, now or at the first occasion..
Also, wanted to ask you people..
what happened to Felipe? I know he trained in Poland last year and is playing for some social team in Brazil now..but is he going to be part of GC next year?
Let's say that the Nix will show interest in him? Would you be in favour of or against him coming back?

Ahhhhh... no, I'll leave that one alone

Apparently we are signing Triantis from the Sydney youth team who is a DM so I doubt we will pick up Salley.

Seventeen leaves you pretty slim for senior players.
It isn't like there are many quality NZer's who'd come to the Phoenix who are strikers (Smeltz gone and Killen likely wanting to stay in Europe) and, imo, if there are no quality Kiwi's then may as well go for a quality import like Dadi.
Indeed we should go for a quality import, but not a 36 y.o. one! what if he pulls a hammy on matchday one??????
guys, the only time I would consider getting a 35 or 36 y.o. would be if the guy was Ronaldo, or Kaka or bloody Totti. Someone of PROVEN skills and talent. Dadi is a good player, but says who that next year he won't disappear or get injured or God knows what!

Chocnut, I think we should all be worried about next season, always. Look at what happened to the Jets last year. They were sitting on top of the world, then they sold all their best players and...what's going on now??
We've already lost Moss and Smeltzy, let's hope we hear of some sensational signings soon. I'm 100% behind the club, always, but I also love that feeling when you know that they've got it covered for the future.
Sorry buddy but the comparison doesn't hold. It's like saying that you don't like your dessert when you haven't even had your first course of the meal.
And as for having Dadi as 3rd or 4th striker, I'm not against that. But I wanna see us signing 2 decent strikers before, i.e. Porter + 1. After that has been done, bring on Bosnich, Dadi, Coveny's dad and whoever you like!

Interesting to note Graham Arnold's comments about the strikers he has seen on his recent intelligence gathering trip to Indonesia:
"Arnold singled out Indonesia's attacking trio of Bambang Pamungkas, Budi Sudarsono and Firman Utina as the main threat, adding all three were "easily" good enough to play in the A-League. "The front three are all good players, and Utina particularly impressed me," he said. "He's very quick, he's got great skills, and he's got a telepathic understanding with Sudarsono."It looks as though we're going to start losing some of our A-League players to first-tier Asian countries, which is disappointing. So to me, it's obvious we should start to bring in some players from these second-tier Asian countries to fill the gaps. This guy [Utina] is easily good enough to play here and there's plenty more like him."

The comparison definitely holds. It is about the focus of our squad. Our striking options this year- Kwasnik, Hearfield, Smeltz. Iffy. Sure we were expecting more from Bertos, Gao and Daniel (Brown having delivered a bit) but they are not picked to be strikers.
Why should we have 4-5 players covering a spot at right back ie Mulligan, Christie, Lia, Muscat, Siggie and possibly Hearfield...but not attempt to take a punt on a striker when we can. He's already scored more than Covs in total. So he's a comparatively proven striker.
Surely we can attempt to sign him, as well as looking for other strikers? Or are we tied into contracts that are going to bite us next year?
Should we wait until he has another contract and then look at him as an option? Or wait until Porter doesn't sign for us and then think about it?
The Phoenix are also in contract negotiations with goalkeeper Mark Paston this week and continue to search for strikers in preparation for Shane Smeltz's move to the Gold Coast next season."

Seriously doubt that Fred would sign full time with us - he's a polite person. Even if he was in Siberia he would say it's a wonderful place that he loves.
I would be very happy to be proved wrong though.
It's unfortunate that this has happened. Think that Fred would've made the difference against Perth.

I would like to know how many games that Dadi has started and finished for Perth. While I am not sure, I don't think he has started and finished many. At 36 next year, is that likely to get better?

Started and finished: 6
Started and subbed off: 4
At least 2 of those subs have been at the real end of the game as well.
