Wonder if we could attract someone like Steven Reid? A good box to box midfielder at Blackburn, with a cannon of a shot. He has lost the last 2 years to knee injuries, and his contract is up at the end of the season. He is out on loan trying to re-eastablish himself in the Championship atm. Less games in the season, and was at Millwall with Ifill, so they might be good selling points.

James yep.

Bright nope.

Mcglinchy, now that's who we need.  Bit of creativity.

McGlinchey is tied to the Mariners for another year. Wikipedia claims James has signed with Dinamo Tbilisi?

He was just being polite on Matchday Saturday - he wont sign for an A-League club.

Byun from Bling impressed me @ Palmy and also last week.

(mind you Sydney as a whole impressed me except for one incident that shall remain a festering sore in my memory)

Personally I think Smith would just be another Diego/Mulligan/Ferrante.
Surely worth pulling some of these struggling Kiwis back home for at least a trial. All three of those players you mention weren't trialed.

I like the idea of Hogg and James.

Both are young players with loads of potential and will not cost us an arm and a leg.

However, i really really want a class striker up front and a creative central midfielder who doesn't disappear for 80 minutes aka Diego when he started. (potentially James, but not sole on it)

Bright is a possible. He's getting a bit of time now at shrewbury albeit off the bench.

I think 18 sub appearences now, but no goals.

Bright started this morning for the Shrews - played 84 mins but no goals - still he must be doing something right over thre if he's gone from the bench to the first 11

Nice picture of him in action on their web page. Not scoring goals though aye?

It depends how much time he is actually getting though off the bench, two minutes every week is hard to make a mark with.

Did the Shrew win?? If they did better chance of him keeping his spot for next week and hopefully netting one.

not sure if backing is the answer he'd be better off using the forward gears

this is going to be a loooong off-season. besides, we are only looking at 4-5 new players, a couple of which I'm afraid are going to be [un]interesting youngsters who'll never play. so not too much talk on the market front.

Tony P, prove me wrong!
actually I don't really mind the Nix taking their time to sign new players. they took forever to sign Ifill and Greenacre, but boy didn't they do well!

Really, if we know if the Nix reserve team is playing in the NZFC, the better the attraction to the club.

If we get a reserve team, id like to see Hayne and Hogg from auckland picked up. They would be good value for money. and looked good at the Club World Cup.

That's the sort of thing I don't want to happen with a PHX reserve team in NZFC. All the top players moving to one team. It should really be mainly a youth thing.

Yeh worded it slightly wrong, mean i don't want young kiwi players coming to the Phoenix and sitting on the bench.

I also don't want us to take the top young players from the NZFC to fill a youth team.

I think Hayne and Hog would be good additions to our squad.

That's not the plan.  If there is a reserve side it will be youngsters and members of the full squad, Tony has been pretty adamant about that.

If Hogg and Hayne are playing for the Phoenix reserves it would be because they are part of the first team 23.

Also if they played for our reserves in the nzfc assuming we join that competition they couldn't play in future world club comps... as I believe the nix reserves are going to be excluded from this.

For an amatuer that is a handy little pay check to get occassionally.

I think we would have to be piking up guys like Musa etc who have trained with the squad and could make the step up, and not deplete the nzfc franchises from their youth set up.

Im looking forward to two new foreign players though. Assuming we don't re-sign Dadi then we could potentially really strengthen the squad. I hope we signsimilar to how Adelaide have so far. Flores and Van Dyk would be the two types of players that I would want to see join the club.

Side note question:
If we sign a foreign marquee, he wouldn't have to count as a foreigner? i.e. we would have 6 .
And if that was the case, then sign up a foreign youth marquee too. Make the most of what we can use in my opinion

Yes he would. You can only have 4 foreigners in the team whether they are marquee or not.

How about Simon Elliot now he has been waived from his team in MLS?

Not keen myself. Then again I'm one of those few who think that he shouldn't be in the starting 11 for the AW's. If Ricky IS keen for him to start for the AW's however I would not be upset if he decided that Elliot was good enough for the Nix. In Ricki we trust. S.O.N2010-03-24 15:04:51
