A Thai goalkeeper, and a young one at that? No thanks!

Now I know, Robson is a) not a very successful manager, and b) biased as ambassador for Man Utd, but it's nice to have support.

In Kawin's defence, he did play all 30 games for the Muang Thong last season, when they won the league, and he's looked good when I've seen him play for Thailand.

Of course, now that Robson has recommended him to Man U, he may feel he's too good for the Nix.

Good opportunity for Kawin

Thailand coach Bryan Robson has recommended national goalkeeper Kawin Thamsatchanan to Manchester United.

Thailand and Muang Thong United goalkeeper Kawin Thamsatchanan.

"I told them that he is worth looking at," the former United skipper said yesterday.

"I am trying to compile DVDs and will send them to Manchester United so that they can make a decision if they will invite him to go over there for a trial."

He added: "As we know, Manchester United are one of the best teams in the world. Even one Thai player going there to improve himself would be a massive step for Thai football."

The former England international is still a global ambassador for Man U.

Kawin of Thai Premier League champions Muang Thong United was outstanding in Thailand's 1-0 defeat to Iran in an Asian Cup qualifier last week.

Robson, who is in charge of both the full national side and the Asian Games (U23) team, said he would watch as many Thai Premier League matches as possible to find new players for both squads.

Robson yesterday witnessed a contract signing ceremony between the Football Association of Thailand (FAT) and Beer Chang producer ThaiBev.

The firm has extended its sponsorship for the FAT for another two years worth 30 million baht a year. The new deal expires next year.

Sign Payne and then give him a 30minute meet the fans-with-no-police-or-cameras-present.

sign me, you can sign me for 20 cents a season and what I will do is I will two foot Payne and break his leg and then the Phoenix can release me. Seriously though I think its important to get a Target man and a LB Lochead is not quite good enough.

Its bloody annoying. Before last night I know a few people had quite a high opinion of Payne. Now that he has proved to be a lying bastard I can see that he is going to be the next Robbie Kruse...

In Happier news, as the season is now over and the promised talks can begin, hopefully this means that a contract extension to McKain is announced this week

A strong striker who doesn't dive who knows how to put the ball in the net?

and re:Kruse actually a big fan of hwo he has turned his career around at Melbourne. Feverish was right. But would have been hard to accept after his tackle on Leo.

It would take a goal... maybe two by wither Payne or Kruse and all would be forgotten.

We still love Lia and he's has done his fair share of munter challenges.

Kruse might be forgiven well before Payne.  Smeltz?  Dunno.  Payne, never.

I hear young Jason Naidoski from the jets might be coming across on a one-season deal. I dont think that is such a bad idea, he fits the tall/big striker bill for us and we still need another player aged under 21. But i dont think the boy has to much pace, but very good in the air as we found out in rd 1

Looking at the other thread -titled wish lists. We are going to hear lots of people chatting/dreaming about a "creative midfielder", remember last year it was all about a "target man"..we didn't really get what we wanted.. and it worked out.

well- we did eventuallyl get Dadi and if we hadn't got him we probably  not have made it through. He did make a big difference to our game in those few games he was playing well.

I don't remember him at all. But from what you said he sounds like a semi-decent player.
However, I do hope that we don't get Youth players just because we have to. Our policy on youth players hasn't been the bast, in my opinion.
Costa has probably been the most utilized youth player and he hasn't got much game time at all. Magic Marco is very young, sure, but players are there for a reason. Look at what the other clubs have done/are doing with their young promising players. Tommy Oar is probably the best example. Ben Kantarovsky (sp?) is another.

Youth players should be 'wild cards', not just muppets.

Tommy Oar and Ben Kantarovski are pretty extreme examples. Both of them are absolute quality, a fair cut above Costa and anything else floating around the league

Those clubs have the benefit of youth teams so that these youngsters are playing regularly, a luxury that so far we have had to do without. Heres hoping for a youth league in the next season!

+aussie players have had years of AIS/VIS training etc. NZ players don't get that.

I think Leckie maybe an exception as he wasn't even playing VPL..

Wasn't Hearfield a youth player when we got him? I think he's a bit more than a muppet. And where are we magically going to get super youth players that can start for us day in day out? They need to be developed - and we can't do that without a youth team.. Hopefully next season we will have one and then we might see younger players developing into first-teamers.

I only started coming onto this site when Marco was training with the Nix, what is the story for the Yellow Fever scholarship? is there a thread somewhere for that? Just interested in seeing who people are thinking about this time around.

I still think we should be in the market for an up-front target man, someone of Dadi's height, but younger and quicker.

I don't know if Dadi has a full season in those legs, he was impressive in his first few games, but faded fast.

Not sure who is coming off the books, but I think we'd need to get someone overseas again.

I don't know about this fixation with a target man. We did ok this season mostly without one. Even on our good run towards the end of the season Dadi was mainly used off the bench and Greenacre did a good job. The good form was more a result of getting our midfield combination sorted.

If anything I would really like a striker with ridiculous pace which could help push the opposition defence a little deeper and give us more space in the midfield. And if this striker is a decent hight then that is a bonus.

At present most of our attacks are from the wings, Fox Sports did an analysis after the Jets game and we had something ridiculous like 50+ balls into the box (most of the crossing wasnt that accurate). One of the main benefactors of this has been Brown with runs into the box. If we do get a midfield maestro do they play deeper allowing Brown the freedom to charge into the box looking for chances or do we have a more advanced playmaker? Unless the advanced playmaker is good in the air I would assume it would change our style of play and give us more penetration from central positions, something like Hernandez at Melbourne.

But actually, what's the deal with Vignaroli? I realise that he is a) old, and b) broken, but he is the type of creative player that we are after (when he is fixed). So long as he doesn't get an open goal in the final minute that is.

How about that anorexic Angulo midget from Melbourne?

I defo think we talk to Greenie about his so called freinds that are keen on coming to the a-league, if they're of the same or higher level than him im all for it.

Anderson Potty - So rubbish I was ROFLMAO'ing. I think he paid his own way to China though,  for self-belief, risk-taking and perserverance.
Eddy Putter - I don't think he ever got a chance, was injured or something and decided to move on, had a good pedigree though, but didn't seem too keen.
Nerijus Astraukas - Not quite up to scratch based on a short trial stint in Welly, currently walllowing in the second Greek division and wants to come and play NZFC

Legitimate striker
Creative midfielder
Defensive cover

Are the things top of my list.

Greenie is a tireless worker but wasn't a great goal-scoring threat. He does a lot of great work that goes unnoticed by many (not us) and would benefit from having someone else up front who could compliment him.

Could always do with more creativity in midfield. Would love to get someone who can carve through up through the middle, and it would make us more dangerous...as we are adept on the wings.

Defensive cover will also be needed, particularly if McKain leaves. Would love to add another starter-worthy player to give us some balance off the bench.

I think with Eddy he just got 'injured' within 15 minutes of training, and carried the injury on the sideline during the rest of his trial. No real commitment at all.
