Phoenix Transfer - speculation (Part 2)

You don't think he might have been battling injury to get the chance to prove himself at Celtic? Or that when fit, was endeavouring to show he was good enough -- and his Hibs record would suggest he was -- and was working his socks off to try and get into the Celtic first team?

Either of those possible? Glass half empty kind of guy, aren't you?

One thing to remember is that Steve-O is a big hibs fan and his judgement maybe clouded by that.

Yes, he can be a 'half empty kind of guy' but remember where he is coming from.  Remember how we feel about players who we feel have been disloyal to our club(s).

I own a Killen-9 Hibs shirt, but I'd hardly begrudge someone wanting to try their luck with the Auld Firm. This may be because it was my great-grands rather than me who lived in Edinburgh of course...
And if you mean Smeltz, I had no qualms about his going to Gold Coast. In a short professional footballing career and with a family to support, you have to make the most you can. I'd have loved to see him in a 'nix shirt forever, but pro sport is a ruthless and unromantic world.

Of course I have (Hibs) green tinted specs on, but come on, Killen stayed at Celtic for 2 full seasons and did almost the square root of zero. It was obvious to everyone but him that it was never going to work out there but he stayed anyway, and then eventually 2 years later he went out on loan.

I'd hardly say I am basing my opinion on a sh*tload of nothing when I've probably seen Killen play more games in the flesh than any person on here? He also disrespected Hibs in the media by saying they were simply a "stepping stone" for him. It may be true, but he didn't have to actually say it in public about the team who plucked him from relative obscurity at Oldham (where he was going nowhere) and gave him a shot in a top league, and as stated, stuck by him through his injuries.

By the way, he's not the world's only footballer to do this...another Hibs player who went at the same time is now back at Hibs after having the exact same experience at Celtic. These guys never learn.

And then there's the old favourite I want to be banned I want to be banned who sat on his considerable arse for a year picking up his 40k per week after being told he definitely would never play again and could go!

Unsubstantiated rumours, pure speculation blah blah blah on All Whites and coach.

After glow of an amazing World Cup performance wearing off - only six weeks to a new A League season.

Striker, creative mid fielder, McKain replacement and youth player to sign - time to get these crucial spots filled and players signed.

All well and good to take our time but time, tide and season kick-off wait for no man.

Ifill was signed late so i'm still confident we'll sign a few decent players before the season starts

I suppose we have an extra week as well because we have the bye first up

That would be very last minute!

But yeah we have an extra week for any new players to settle in,thats actually quite a good positive to take out of having a bye week first up.

Allegedly

I seem to recall Killen wanted to stay at Hibs but they only offered him a one year deal. so he did the thing any human would do and went for more money and a longer contract length. As far as players go picking up cheques happily, see Winston Bogarde, now thats a good story

Think that we'll be seeing a few players leave the club soon - we wont have much time to replace them

Don't think we'll be losing any players at this stage to be honest.

I wouldn't. If there is a club out there that is willing to offer ridiculous money for McKain then surely there will be clubs coming in for the likes of Leo

As noted already, McKain went to Saudi Arabia on the back of the gig his ex-coach got there.

Leo (or any other of our players) have hardly been on the transfer radar prior to the World Cup, and like I've repeatadly said, clubs are extremely reluctant these days to sign players based on three games in the World Cup.

In fact the only All Whites I think may be moving on after this are Smeltzy and Reid, and Elliottt may get another shortish contract. Think everyone else will be staying put.

We'll see. I hope you're right.

Also Australians such as McKain benefit from the AFC's 3+1 rules while NZers don't of course.

It's quite possible some 'lower' overseas teams would be interested in the likes of Leo - whether anything would come of that would depend on $$$. And hopefully Phoenix aren't gonna let anybody go cheaply - which would stifle such moves.

TV3 news just said:

"Serepisos says he's got top players queuing up to join the Phoenix".

Our last "international signing" was a big mac, both in name size and diet.

This why we haven't heard much huh, been busy scouting out Ebbsfleet United. Oh well, sounds like there's a few people on trial so at least we are getting a look at them.

From a pretty average league.  But he was top goal scorer.. Maybe looking for a new Smeltz?

Ricki said he's looking for one more target man, one creative midfielder and one defender.

Yeah he could be alright...if he has enough technique to beat players then that is already a start.

Until recently I was managing old Magno on FM10, he helped my Ebbsfleet get to the Championship in 5 seasons. And we all know what a good scout FM is...

hmmm hes definietly worth a trial. will be interesting to see who else is trialling.

Even if we do have loads of players lining up, we only have limited foreign signings left, one maybe?

if thats the case then id rather give it to the creative midfielder because the aus and kiwi players usually lack that killer instinct that makes a good creative midfielder.

What foreigners do we have at the moment?  I'm thinking Ifill, Greenacre, and Diego.  Hasn't the number in this league been raised to five?

And where did all this talk of this Ebbsfleet United player trialling with us even come from?  I'm suspecting I missed a rather big story sometime over the previous couple of days.

We have to dont we.
We have signed 17 now and 3 more needed to give us the 20 minimum to be on the books for the A League requirements by 1 August

Read that somewhere...
