Phoenix Transfer - speculation (Part 2)

Can someone explain how the link between the main squad and the youth squad would work? Taking the NYL case for comparison, how many players are in youth squads, and can any of them be called up to the senior squad at any time? Doesn't it make the squad size of 23 kind of redundant anyway?

According to ZB Toto is confirmed, and Ricki now seems optimistic about signing Jade North:

https://nz.sports.yahoo.com/news/article/-/7663160/phoenix-hopeful-socceroos-signing

The Wellington Phoenix are firming as the favourites to sign former Socceroos defender Jade North.

After uncertainty earlier this week, Phoenix coach Ricki Herbert says he is now very confident the A-League club will sign North.

The club has confirmed the signing of Argentinean midfielder Toto while young striker Mirjan Pavlovic is expected to be signed in the coming days.

The Phoenix completed their preparation for the forthcoming season with a 5-1 win over a Wairarapa selection in Masterton this afternoon.Mikeythorn2010-07-28 17:54:52

Yeah, God told Rory Fallon to tell Ricki that he'd smitten the Beijing Guoan training grounds with a plague of locusts so Jade couldn't trial.

That would be great news if it comes together - McKain was a big loss but North would seem to be a more than capable replacement.

I recall reading somewhere our contract offer was for 3 years - hopefully he signs for the full 3.

Locking our better players in for 2 or 3 years is great for team stability and cohesion.

He dribbles a lot and the opposition dont like it - you can see it all over their faces. (Ron Atkinson)

Im sure Rickis signed Pav and Toto ... because in his interview about the RR YF scolarship winners he was talking about the boys and said cause were down to needing one now. So I presume he meant one signature.

Story in the Nordlys (Tromso newspaper) today

Very average translation here, but no mention of the Phoenix.

TROMSO WILL NOT EXTEND JADE NORTH'S CONTRACT

"Middle stopper also been granted a leave of absence from TO-training to visit a Chinese club. Because the 28-year-old's contract expires after the season, he is now free to negotiate with other clubs.

- We will extend not with Jade, we've given him permission to go to China to check out a club there, "coach Per Mathias Hgmo to Nordlys, adding that TO does not want to put any obstacle in the way of any North-transition. North got on the plane shortly after Monday's match against Lillestrm.

Club in Beijing?
It was Tore Rismo in the affiliate company goons who back in February as the connection between TO and center stop.

But Rismo, who yesterday was back from vacation, had not heard anything about the North's China trip.

- I have not informed me quite yet, so this was new to me. But I have heard before that it was a club in Beijing, who would be interested in Jade, "said Rismo.

North's Australian agent, Buddy Farah was not available at Northern Lights' inquiries yesterday.

Can disappear in summer
Sports Director Morten Krmer confirms that they have given him permission to check out conditions in the East.

- Which club he visits, he must answer for himself. But he has had an opportunity to look into a club that could be interesting for him, "said Krmer the Northern Lights.

As a long way to confirm that North is finished in TO after the season.

- It is a bit on the cards, but we will first see what it becomes, he says, which does not exclude that the Australian national team player to leave early as this summer's transfer window.

- It is also a possibility, but time will show, "says Krmer.

Retrieved replacing
North was determined to "Gutan" in late February / early March as a replacement for long-term injured Kevin Larsen, who is now at full speed back from the knee.

Australian also served as ertstatter for Fredrik Bjrck on stopping place in this summer's games. Bjrck is now back in the team. Thus, the North continued to have played his last TO-fight, and ends when the required eight games. North did not reply to Northern Lights' repeated calls yesterday."

Actually probably meant we only need 1 U20 (which will probably be Pav)

Nice. Good to see it's just one year deals as I'm still unconvinced with toto. Pav on the other hand looks pretty decent for a youth player. I'm happy with our three youth players. Rojas and Musa have the potential to play very big parts for the All Whites one day, let's hope we can see them show their worth for the Phoenix.

Today or tomorrow.

Reading the comments to the WPFC post on Facebook makes my brain hurt. Such gems as...

"I am disappointed that you have fallen into the classic pommy trap of paying for non Kiwi talent! How do expect to grow our game if you hire outsiders!"

a nervous wait. Without North, we'll be fined.

Any (history) on what such a fine would cost the Phoenix?

Probably the same people who keep having a crack at Killen for taking the money instead of "waiting for better offers in england".

Story on Nix site says:
The Phoenix must have at least 20 players signed by the August 4 deadline.

Thought it was 1st August - which is correct I wonder?

I had thought this too. Can't find any clarification on the FFA or A-League site either.

The club believe it to be the 4th, which is the day before the league kicks-off so it makes sense.

There's also been confusion over whether the punishment is a fine or a "please explain." So I'm wondering if it's <20 on the 1st = please explain, <20 on the 4th = fine.

The A-league website has an article saying that the deadline is July 31. Probably wrong, but adds to the confusion even more

Dear Nathan and John,
As a member I appreciated receiving txt advice of significant club news (particularly signings) in advance of public announcements. It makes you feel valued and a little special.

I suspect there are a fair number of members who are not aware of today's signings and will share my disappoinment at not receiving "personal" advice.

You may want to get a txt out.

P.S. The signings are very good news.

Good point. Missed the PhoneNix message.

My company does txt message stuff, if they're looking for someone to do this for them this season.

How long will Pav be able to be a youth player for? Is it just one season?

Agree. Dura and North together would be a great combination with Siggy as back up.
