plus you should never buy a player on the strength of a world cup - just look at ulises de la cruz

This. Clubs have been burnt way too many times before, most will stay clear of signing players based on the World Cup alone.

If you weren't on someone's radar before the World Cup, chances are you're going nowhere.

I am still glowing from our great end of season run when we had a GREAT KEEPER between the sticks and another Aussie named Mckain in defence, both now gone, lets hope the recruitment team are on there game, they will be hard to replace.maybe this Brazillian from Queenstown would be a start.

Has Reddy performed at the World Cup against Italy? No. Paston has. :)

But that was moving from one A league club to another. NZFC - meh.

It's about the location, not the club.

If it was all about the location, no-one would ever play for Manchester United.

Don't be silly.what sort of statement is that? what I am saying is the better keeper has left the Phoenix and when replacing players you should always try to recruit ones of better ability not go backwards.

It is a reason why some players leave Manchester (both United and City)

We've got two goalkeepers signed and in a squad of 20 or 21 three is an expense and a luxury that is  hard to justify, particularly as any keeper to challenge for a start is likely to be an import and not cheap.

At the end of the day, due to the oz / nz  player origin rules, Phoenix will be having to replace any NZ players leaving with 'lesser' players in state/NZFC leagues, or paying over the odds for Current A League NZers/Australians.

We need to keep taking a punt on the kiwi's that are out there like Siggy or Smeltz.  Players that the coaches assess can step-up or they can help regain confidence..

The media like discussing the key role the Phoenix have played in the All White's displays, if we don't keep developing or re-inventing NZ players then we're not doing that.

I know he's been average at international level, but surely Boyens would be an alright signing? Ricki seems like a fan of the guy. I think Clapham, Peverley could be others.

Yeah Boyens would be good and the MLS is a level above the A League

I'm wondering if Kris Bright would be worth a punt.  Look how well Smeltz did after he'd been wallowing in obscurity in Britain.

So what if a couple of Nix players get picked up as a result of their efforts in the World Cup - where will that leave us?

Lochy and Leo are getting game time and might receives some offers abroad.
Personally I'm more concerned with Paston.
Not sure about that, he's at the end of his career now and is taking outside steps preparing for his retirement. New family etc. It was only a year ago that he was close to losing his spot with the Nix. I'd be surprised if he got any substantial offer that was enough for him to leave here at this stage of his career.

Ben Sigmund's was also at the end of his career three years ago. Life can have unexpected turns.

Slightly different situation though, Sigmund was about to give up because he didn't think he would get a good break. The infamous Wales game was his turning point (much like Smeltz).

NZ Knights don't count.  Especially when you're 18 or 19.

Just heard Ricki on ZB interview say that they in negotiation with replacement for McKain. If negotiations are successful with this player he will fit in very well at Nix. Anybody else hear this ????

The speculation that I have successfully transferred my flights for the Christchurch game for a sum of money greater than they originally cost can be confirmed.

I'm slightly disappointed!
