Riki was just quoted on 3 News as saying that now he knows Si Elliotttt is interested in playing for the Phoenix he will definitely be talking to him...
Buggering hell, it's Winston Reid all over again - why can't Ricki learn this stuff first-hand instead of having to be told by Gourdie or someone at Fairfax?

Some people have suggested a front three of Greenacre, Ifill, and Shuker. Is Greenacre definitely ahead of MacAllister on people's lists? I know it's not all about them individually, but also how they perform with players around them and the other attackers strengths, but I would think it would be fairly tight.
To be honest i'd forgotten about him!
Yes i'd probably start him ahead of Greenie. TBH im still waiting to see Greenie shine. Pope John Paul Ifill tells us he's a hard worker.. but .. im still waiting
Plus Big Mac looked taller.. we need tall timber for the awesome crosses we delivergoldienz2010-07-22 23:02:34

Can anyone actually tell us anything about Toto?
Grennie's quality shone through perversely when he wasn't in the side, without him we had no focal point in the attack and his work rate without the ball is excellent. Plus he finished the chances that came to him. McCallister will start the season as second choice and will be brought off the bench in much the same way as Dadi

If we sign north and play three at the back there will be lots of midfielders who won't see match time. Fighting for spots will be Muscat, Diego, Lia, Brown, Toto and then wide midfielders Bertos, Daniel, Troy, Shuker..Lochy??? There will be some unhappy campers amongst that lot for sure!!!
Huge Huge ask for Toto and shuker to fly in and then get 45 mins against Boca and try and make any impression at all.
Ifill was quoted as saying good things about Viera.....maybe he is not off the radar yet.
Toto and Shuker are midgets......midgets get smashed in the A-League, especially midfield midgets. Juninho and that little Brazilian that played for us were classic examples....heaps of talent but physically not powerful enough. Once they get Muscatised they quickly loose interest in the fancy stuff.

Have to disagree here - we probably had one of our best spells of the season with Greenacre out injured (which indluded a critical 3-game winning streak in which we scored 8 goals), and while I don't mean to imply that this was the case because he didn't play, I would suggest that he was far, far from being missed.
Furthermore, his finishing was not something to write home about (he did score a couple of quality goals, notably header against Brisbane early on and the finish off Costa's backheel against Newcastle) - his composure in front of goal seemed to be sorely lacking at times, and he fluffed quite a few chances coming his way. 6 goals in 24 games is hardly a great return, especially considering that he was outscored by Brown (8 goals in 26 games) and Dadi scored 5 in just 10 appearances. Greenacre is a good professional and a hard-working guy, but he has a lot more to show before he can be considered an critical piece of the puzzle.

I'm a big fan of greenacre, and when he was missing, we did lack that focal point of attack.
BUT
I think that we really just lacked an out and out striker in those games and realistically McCallister could prove just as positive. Hoping Greeny can come back and have a stellar season especially if Shuker signs.

i rekon if u looked at CG's conversion rate it would be very high, he didnt get alot of chances for his 6 goals and plowed a lone furrow, creating space and time for others to get forward and score. He has to be first choice.
If we look at a 5-3-2 that RH has said he would like to play then youd fancy a strong lineup with the addition of a CB
Pasty
Siggy Durra Another
Bertos lochhead
brown lia
iffil
Mac Grennie

Yeah I hadnt heard of him mentioned before. Im very interested in seeing how cornejo / toto goes tonight.. And wonder where they are planning to play Shuker?
We cant expect to see the best out of these guys realistically as they will have only just hopped off long flights

which matches are you referring to? I completely disagree on the compusre in front of goal, I really can't recall him missing many chances.
Central Coast 2-0, Brisbane 3-1, North Queenland 3-0.
Well, I remember him missing quite a few - snatching at the ball and missing badly when a bit more composure would have given him a better chance, being a pace or two behind from where he needed to be, and those kind of things. For the latter, either he failed to gel with the rest of the team, or the other guys failed to get him involved the way he likes to be involved. Either way, he's far from being the critical piece of the puzzle as far as I'm concerned.el grapadura2010-07-23 10:17:06

Greenacre was handy last year but not critical imo. linked quite well, worked v hard defensively, but wasnt a huge goal threat I didnt think. Not sure that his finishing was so bad, every striker misses some, but that he didnt get into enough dangerous positions, wasnt enough of a presence in the six yard box.
Hopefully he finds the net a bit more often this year.

Penalty in the 3-0 win over Newcastle in front of only 4 000 is the most obvious one. Made up for it with that great goal off the Kosta flick-back, though.
Though I agree that at times we looked very rudderless at the front without him though, as mentioned, Brown and Ifill did a good job of trying to fix that.

I always thought that being up top by himself doesn't suit him and while he works hard he would be better off playing off a big target man.
I was happy when we signed DM as I'd love to see if Greeny would start banging them in off of knock downs and flick ons.
However, if Ricki wants to play 3 at the back I can't see that happening.

Wasn't this said a lot last year, and it is why we signed Dadi. I recall Greenacre himself saying he likes to play off someone.

Greenacre should be definitely starting alongside Mac this season. With a front man he will get the support and not have to do the running all by himself. Mac will give him chances to score, which he will most likely finish as shown by his record. He just did not get too many great chances to score last season as a sole striker.
