One week to go.....
...And still no f*%#ing signings.
How am I supposed to get any work done while constantly monitoring Twitter, YF and stuff for news?

Jade North has accepted a trial with Beijing Guoan. I'd imagine Wellington is plan B for him should the trial be unsuccesful. We've offered him a 3-year deal (I remember 2 being the earlier number so perhaps the deal was sweetened with an extra year?)

Yeah hmm thats not a good thing. Doubt he will pass on Beijing. You never know though I guess.
Good to hear Rickis got other plans.

Agree he wouldn't pass on Beijing, but a chance Beijing might pass on him...
Beijing Guo'an are absolutely not short of coin, so they should have a wide range of players to choose from. They do seem to like their Aussies though, on the other hand does North have the requisite fighting skills? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sWqMsFMxGgc

Hmm yeah so unless hes not good enough for them, we aint got a shot. And you would think a man of his quality would quite easily fit into their squad. Unless he has had a tremendous down in quality. In which case, would we wan him anyway?

Yeah, why the hell would he go back to an Asian club after that Korean stint? Apparently he got frozen out because he was a foreigner etc. Guess it's all about the $$$.
Doesn't sound promising for us. Think we should just forget about him.

Interesting. On 3 News there was an article about the scholarship boys. When asked if there was a chance they could be signed, Ricki said that 19 places on the roster have been taken so there was one place left, and possibly space outside of that too.
I figure that means Toto and the Aussie kid have signed the dotted line.Mikeythorn2010-07-27 20:26:36

Some good quotes from Ricki:
https://sportal.com.au/football-news-display/phoenix-close-to-full-team-95615
English triallist Chris Shuker, who only arrived in the New Zealand capital last Friday, has chosen to return to Britain rather than pursue a contract.
"He's kind of realised that he's on the other side of the world to his family so it's a personal decision for him," said Herbert.
...
The decision to sign Pamungkas could hinge on whether North opts to take up the deal on offer from Wellington as only five foreign players are allowed per squad and Herbert could be forced to look overseas for a defender if the ex-Jets skipper chooses to go elsewhere.
"We've got options but I'd like to bring Jade in for a lot of reasons," said the Phoenix coach. "A, he's a quality player. B he's an Australian too so it wouldn't eat into a foreign spot."
"I'm going to sign a defender no matter what. But if we sign another foreign player then your options to sign a defender are back into Australia and New Zealand again and I don't want to have to be restricted by that." Mikeythorn2010-07-27 20:26:13

Have an arrangement similar to Smeltzs' Chinese Odyssey with one of the foreign players...

maybe theyll just give gouldy a contract or something
No way. An emergency keeper can be brought in if needed. I would prefer a young kiwi if you want someone who's not gonna get game time. In saying that Ricki just needs Toto and Pavlovic who look likely and one defender, if he's still waiting on North then Peverley, or Bambang could sign
