Gosh some people are hyper sensitive when there is any implied criticism of dear old mother England.
All I said was that A-League pitches can be rock hard. I made no value judgements in comparison to English pitches. Last season many A-League pitches were substandard.
I have expressed reservations about the recruitment drive. The facts are we were told that they were going to England to recruit two English strikers from Div1.(Plus a Brazil trip which never happened).
My point is why so narrow a focus...why not also go to Scotland where there must be some good talent available?(another Charlie Miller would be nice)
Why not also a quick trip across the Channel to Holland. To see if there are anymore Serg van Dykes lurking around in Dutch Div 2. Ricki could have got some contacts from Ivan Vicilich who played there for a number of years.
I'll accept criticism where its due, in many places, but your wildly inaccurate post suggests either A: Ignorance or B: A substantial lack of knowledge, probably both.
Scotland? I assume you are aware Steven Old has signed terms with Kilmarnock. At a guess I would say he was on more than we ever paid him. If Steven Old is good enough, what makes you think players coming off contract at similar clubs in Scotland are going to be amazing. The talent pool in Scotland is thin as it is, it would've been a waste of a trip and a waste of money.
It is clear to me Ricky and Tony had drawn up a short-list of players they wanted, that were available and would at least have an interest in coming to the Nix. I don't know if they scouted Holland, but rough diamonds don't walk around with a big sign saying 'Sergio the second - sign me up', like you seem to believe they do.
I think we shouldve scouted Madagascar, just incase we unearthed a gem.
I don't think so, just watch this
You need a good kick up the arse.
