I hope Krishna scores a contract with the fury, it must be good for pacific island football having him playing in the a-league. obviously he wasn't good enough for the nix so i dont mind if some one else picks him up. Would be good to get some more younger kiwi's in the league though

I suspect its not that Krishna's not good enough, but more likely not what The Phoenix need. With different combinations in another team he'll probably shine.

I expect that's mopre the case red, although he didn't really show much in the trials to warrant a contract. For his sake I hope he does well at the Fury. theprof2009-06-05 16:20:20

Hey just dragging the topic back to Chris Killen and what Tony P said about making him out marquee. It sounds a bit weird to me, especially after the Porter fiasco and the absolute secrecy over the english striker until signing of Greenacre. I can't stop even just thinking that maybe the Phoenix learnt their lesson about publicly targeting players and that maybe Chris is a bit further into negotiations than we think. I mean there has been a long time between Tony and Ricki first talked to him on their trip to england and only now there is talk about it. Maybe hes close to signing?

Thats exactly what I thought. Its not like other A-League clubs wouldn't be interested. On the other hand there could be no chance of us signing him at all, the club knowing this, and just using him for a bit of publicity.

I seriously doubt an Aussie A-League club would use up an import & marquee spot on a player that isn't very well known over here. valeo2009-06-05 22:03:52

We at least know how well Killen is playing now (or Ricki does), which is a lot more than can be said of many marquees to come to our league. Would want to try and avoid putting on too much pressure though of being NZ's "star striker" in case he gets Sydney FC - Aloisi disease.

This Killen thing is pretty far fetched for the following reasons:
1. He hasn't indicated at all that he wants to come.
2. He has a contract at another club
3. Doubt we could meet his wage demands

My understanding is that Killen is on 6000 pounds a week at Celtic, i.e. about $16,000 NZD. So, how much does the marquee salary pay?

However, Killen has done nothing at Celtic, and would be stupid to think he can continue to command those sorts of wages.

There is no limit on marquee dollars, apart from how much you can afford to pay, and how good a player is willing to come.

Does anyone else think that Killen's name has been thrown out there as possible bait to lure someone else of a similar calibre to the club?

Just a thought I had...

That's a good point, I'm thinking it could be that but I also don't think any other A-League teams would really try for Chris Killen, so Tony and co know we are safe by making our intentions clear.  And if they think it's safe then it's a no-brainer to tell the public seeing as so many of us are getting more and more frustrated waiting for the blimming season to start.

As an equal fan of Wellington Phoenix and the New Zealand All Whites I cant decide whether I want Chris Killen at the club or not. He would be a very good signing for the Phoenix, I think a better signing than most people expect. He has international and European experience. If you look at his record 4 Hibernian(which he never should have left) you can see that he has the potential to be dangerous. he just needs to rediscover it. On the other hand from an All Whites point of view, we want as many people playing in Europe as possible and someone leaving a Euro contract to play A-League wouldnt be a great thing for the national team. I understand that he should leave Celtic but from this perspective I would like to see him at a Euro club where he will get pitch time at a slightly higher level. He shouldnt have left Hibs!!! So I remain divided between club and country.
Anyone else feel the same?

Definitely know where you're coming from.  But a lot of other clubs in Europe of a reasonable standard would probably just see him as being the dregs of Celtic that they wouldn't want to pick up.  A player who has only had one really stand-out season.  But if he came here and did well then he'd appeal more to European clubs as it'd show that he can replicate his form at Hibs.

I don't know, probably would be good for all concerned parties if he came to Wellington.

Yea if he came to NZ now he could still give himself more time to return to Europe. Hes at the stage now where he could stay in Europe and risk not playing or come back here. if he comes back here and plays well for one, two seasons at the most he may attract some more Euro clubs. But if he leaves it much longer he will be too old to attract other teams afterwards. Perhaps now IS the right time for him to taste the A-League. We wouldnt have a bad strike force if he signed. Killen and then Greenacre and one of these trialists rotating based on form, injuries etc.

I support the Phoenix more than the All Whites, so I'd rather have him here.

The standard of the league will increase again this year anyway.

Makes sense I guess with a new Manager coming in, he will want to stay and fight for a place. Good to see the Phoenix made the BBC transfer gossip page on this rumour.

LOL. Maybe he can slip a Qatari defender a few of the multitude of GBP he seems to earn to break McDonald's legs.

Good Luck to the Killen Curse ;)

Actually I do hope he gets more game time with Celtic next season or maybe a fair shot in the EPL if there is an interested club. Wolves maybe?

I still hold out some hope of seeing him for the Nix in the near future, providing the new manager decides Killen's not in his plans.

He wasn't deemed good enough at the Championship club that got relegated this season.

Doubt any Premiership clubs would be looking at him considering that.

From A NZ Football point of view lets all hoipe Tony Mowbray gets appointed Celtic manager. Mowbray was Killens manager when he was at Hibs scoring all the goals so if anyone knows what Killen can do in the SPL its mowbray. May get more of a chance next season

I think it was the other way round. Killen didn't think that Norwich City was good enough for him. He had said he had enough of them and headed back to play for Celtic's reserves because that was much better for him. He knew that Norwich City was doing everything wrong, the fact that it was relegated demonstrates that he was right in his assessment. Killen is not stupid.

Now that Tony Mowbray is in the picture to take over as Manager of Celtic from Hibs, Killen is likely to get more games under him as he knows what will work in the past. Still would have competition for places but if he get to play half of the games, then it is smart of him to stay at Celtic.AllWhitebelievr2009-06-07 15:40:00

Well, the fact that he couldn't make the starting line-up at a club like that, and bitched afterwards that Norwich acted in bad faith towards him suggests to me that he was a big flop in their squad.

So yeah. Still think he'd be lucky to get a Championship contract, let alone a Premiership one.el grapadura2009-06-07 15:41:05

Norwich city had sacked their manager Glenn Roeder after 60 games and only 20 wins on the 14th January. On 21st January, Byran Gunn was manager being the GK coach. Killen was loaned out for the reminder of their season on the 31st January but after 4 substitute appearances, he left in early march. Normally he would stick to the end of the season, but it was Bryan Gunn's first team management and he is a former GK which means he would suck in selecting. Gunn did broker the loan as well. Gunn usually is good that way but he only became GK coach after James Hollman, left he was only a club liaison for signing players etc. Not fully trained as a manager. So it was all still downhill. The club was a big flop and so when things like that happen, good players are the ones that are affected. The problems was already there before Killen got there, and if you were the outsider coming in, you are still the outsider. So I tend to believe that he got a raw deal.

He (Gunn) was initially suppose to be temporary but he has fan status like Alan Shearer with NUFC. So don't expect Norwich to be back in the Championship to soon from League 1.

More a case of didn't make an impression!

"Chris Killen has returned to Celtic from his loan at Norwich City.

The New Zealand striker has made just four appearances for the Canaries since signing on loan in January and has fallen behind Carl Cort, David Mooney, Alan Gow and Cody McDonald in the pecking order.

Norwich boss Bryan Gunn told the Eastern Daily Press: "He is still contracted to us and we can call on him in the next eight games.

"But it is a convenient thing to do and a compassionate decision.

"It's better than him travelling around the country every weekend and watching from the stands."

Whatever the history Chris, you score a brace convincingly against Italy and/or Spain then all this may be forgotten...history's history.. you have a chance to transform your future in the next few days..up to you to make it so!
I guess then the Phoenix may not see him for some time..

I don't get all this buzz about Killen! sure I'd love to see him in a Phoenix shirt, but if he himself said: "no way, i'm too good for school [for now at least]", let's just concentrate on who we are or aren't going to sign.

Im a NUFC supporter and you cannot be serious!! Killens past it in my opinion and quite often injured. League 1 in england is where i think he will end up this summer unless Mowbrary signs at celtic.
Vidukas contract is up anyway so unless he signs a new contract that combination wont happen.
Would be a quality signing for the nix tho..EPL and SPL experience. Doesnt look like happening though.

What is happening at Newcastle is that the club is for sale, for STG 100 Mill. A snip for a Russian or American billionaire.

Cant see Vuduka getting back there, give him a call Terry
