Another triallist - "sauced" from Dompost

"Joining them when they departed the Chinese city was Tianjin's under-23 international Jiang Chen, who will play for the Phoenix in their second tour match against Guangzhou tomorrow night.

If they like what they see of the pacy striker, who played the first half for Tianjin on Saturday night, he could be bound for Wellington."

but th idea of having a chinese u-23 international is indeed very promising. he must be half decent to make it out of the millions to choose from.

Waht other countrys have u23 teams? sounds a bit random to me.

From the same article:

The Phoenix were also offered, like most A-League clubs, former Spain, Deportivo La Coruna and West Ham striker Diego Tristan and former Spain and Liverpool frontman Fernando Morientes, as well as 2001 World Player of the Year Luis Figo for a guest stint. But none were seriously considered because of the small fortune they would need to fork out to bring them to Wellington.

There was nothing subtle about my hints.

"Substitute Jiang Chen has scored twice as Tianjin Teda stepped up their challenge for the Chinese Super League title, drawing level on points with leaders Shandong Luneng and second-placed Changchun Yatai with a 4-0 hammering of Qingdao Zhongneng.."

Scoring a brace as a substitute sounds promising?

From what I've heard, he was used as a targetman with the Canada U-20's but wasn't strong on the ball, nor with headers. Rumoured to have asked to be released from YFC because he wanted more match time...considering how poor TFC was last year and that there were striking issues this year until the signing of Ali Gerba (legend), that doesn't sound too good. Has scored recently while playing in the Ontario Soccer League....once.

That being said: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rgvIVd4chv0

Wikipedia was wrong - he's a defender.

[QUOTE=Scottisnumpty]B O B O  B A L D E

Playing as targetman for Criticial_Lemon's Indian League team on Football Manager 09. Currently 0 goals in 21 starts.

Site doesn't say much except for what has already been mentioned earlier.  He was a youth player for China debuting against Finland in 2003.  Stint playing for Sichuan 04-05 and then to tianjin 06, in 2008 was loaned out to Shaanxi.

Nothing about games played or goals scored.

I've seen him play!

But not knowing he was going to trial for us I didn't take any notice...

Cannot be a targetman type as none of the Tianjin players were physically imposing.

Also McKain and Sigmund had the Tianjin strikers well under control.

Also this chap has discipline issues?

Honestly speaking I would not mind seeing Greenacre and Costa up front.

Neither would I. However we need at least 2 more options. It's going to be a long season, and God forbid if one of the two gets injured/banned (see Hearfield last year) at a crucial moment we would be screwed again.
Honestly I hope this Chinese chap is good, and I imagine he is if Ricky is looking at him. However, we have been waiting a very long time for the 2 strikers. At this stage it doesn't make much difference when you sign them, so use as long as you can to find the right players. We can easily start the season with Costa and Greenacre, whilst waiting for the new imports to be match fit.
