I'm guessing this is Costa's last year as an U20 (?) if so he will need to justify a full squad position next season - if the poor kid ever gets a run.

Priority must be re-signing top 6 - biggest worry is McKain and then Durante.

I agree with you mate, I just wonder how hard it will be to re-sign McKain, Muscat and SuperLeo.
they have been our best players (not including Smeltz) last year and they have been great this year too. I wonder if they have any offers on their table? I read an interview by Leo in which he said he loved being a professional in his hometown...I hope that will make the difference if some team comes knocking at his door.
McKain was already being targeted by...CCM? Right?
Muscat who knows, to me is a great player, I wouldn't be surprised if another A-League team required his services!

Brisbane.

McKain is my biggest worry of not re-signing, I really hope he does stay as I think he is a class player.

whatever happens in the transfer window happens.....everyone is replaceable. I mean we've got so much better this season after we got rid of our star players last season...

I think Mckain will be the hardest of all to keep...He's been played out of position for so long so I think he'd be happy to go to his home club and play in his prefered position. Who knows whats round the corner, I mean Nelsen might be considering quiting the EPL, I very much doubt it, but we just don't know.

I hope we re-sign everyone. It would mean we'd still have those spare spots to make some real investments for next season without changing our squad too much.

if Nelsen decides to join the Phoenix we better invest in a bunch of crutches. they will come in handy to good old Ryan, you know, hop off the plane (crutches), get into the taxi (crutches), walk up one flight of stairs and pull something (need crutches) and so on and so forth

He recently signed like a 4/5 year deal with Blackburn. Stupid idea anyway.

If McKain goes, then I reckon Simon Elliot will have another good year in him next year judging by his form this year. The AW's best player at confeds and didn't look out of place.
If you're not getting starts in the MSL then come on home Si

I wouldn't be surprised to see us make a loan move for Boyens soon - given the Red Bulls wont make the play offs, we need CB cover and no dubt Ricki will also be looking for defensive cover if we make the World Cup.

Thats actually not a completely ridiculous idea. One thing i could see getting in the way is wages if Red bulls want us to contribute?

The same Andy Boyens who went to the Confed Cup?  Therefore likely to be involved in the WC if we make it.  He won't be not much cover if he is at the WC too.

Sol Campbell = Free Agent.. left Notts County after 1 game. Sign him Phoenix aaha

Id imagine some A league clubs would be looking into this. We are top level football for this part of the world, the thought could be that he'd be into that rather than 3rd tier in england.

I do still dont see it happening at all,but worth randomly looking into for clubs here, might get lucky. He'll probably go to some lower prem or top championship club though.Or even a similar type of team in europe

1 game and we would be chanting "Are you Clebo in disguise"
He may still be fit enough, but the man is a basket case mentally, and would be too big and expensive risk for most A-league clubs

He wasnt fit enough for league 2, and the match he did play, he was the worst player on the park.

From a recent vid I saw of Bergkamp I think he'd be worth signing. I think the A-League will progressivly become a place for retirement for some of these older greats...even Ljunberg who's playing in the USA would be worth a look at...

Why is there even talk of need for cover if we make the World Cup? World Cup's in June/July, in the A-league (and most other leagues) off-season.

That thought had crossed my mind but was too lazy to check when the WC was on.  I wasn't agreeing one bit that we need any cover.

Boyens is calamitious.  What a dreadful move that would be.

No he's not, he'd be an excellent A-League centre-back if he wanted to come home but I doubt he does.

Agreed. Most seem to judge him on confeds cup where opposition was 2x greater, or in Spains case 3x greater than A-League

I was meaning good centre back cover for the Phoenix considering with McKain out we have none and a chance for Ricki to work with him week in week out ahead of the world cup.

Phoenix need to look to sign a player like John Hutchinson or Simon Elliott to give Tim Brown some help, because he is being left alone in the middle while everyone else thinks they are fowards, yet they can't give Greenacre help either. McKain and Bertos would be who i would be focusing on resigning the most. Maybe Theoklitos to replace Paston - his contract in England isn't surviving - he would be a massive signing.

Theoklitos would be a great signing.  I do not want another season of Paston wearing the number 1 goalkeepers shirt.

Mile Jedinak, what a player.  Would give somebody elses left one for the Phoenix to sign him.

And yes, I was basing Boyens solely on his performances for the AW's.  He played well against Wales but his been worse than garbage on a number of occasions.

You all know who I thik we should sign so I won't bother repeating it. Though Andy Boyens would be a good signing

Just put him on a boat for Oz and he can play away games for us.

If we need another player at all to make us a better team - that is a proper targetman. someone who is 6 foot or over with a bit of bulk to muscle those high crosses down to Greenacre and to bury a few himself. As a matter of interest, who [realistically] would be out there to fit that mould? Someone like a Rory Fallon but playing at such a level that playing in the A League would be a realistic possibility.
