We need to make an effort for Sergio van Dijk. He is a quality player. Worth a marquee spot in my books.
Yep he's the missing link in our attack - a good strong target man. And with good ball skills to boot. I agree he'd be worth marquee.
would be a good signing but I don't agree with marquee spot. we must have a fair bit left under the cap
Permalink
But we need to tempt him here. So maybe looking at 500k for him, which we can't fit under the cap. We can use our marquee sport for that sort of money.

I suspect Terry's money tree is a bit bare at the moment.

Sign Hogg,
We will have decent cover for Lochy then. Wicked tournamen at the club champs

Totori already trained with the nix IIRC. Didn't make the grade it seems

we really need someone that is tall for a CF but I have no idea who!!!!
bring back astroclaus for xmas and aim the ball at him and hope for a ricochet

Why not try and get either Christian Vieri, Henrik Larrson or Fernando Morientes on guest stints. Thats top of my wish list. Im just waiting for that shooting star.

[QUOTE=KTBW] he's sure got a big nose tho, wonder if it scares the defenders?

He looks like Matt le Tissiers little brother.
If he plays 1/10th like him, then he'll do me.
This guy would be sooooo easy to make in Fifa 10.

Sergio Van Dijk? 6ft 1.

not an expert or even a soccer player....(should I have admitted that?) but liked the look of Haynes and Coombes for Auckland. They look like they want to keep/win the ball, drive to the goal and score...more than you can say about most of the Phoenix at the moment.
While I'm at it whats with all the stupid heading competitions that the phoenix seem to get into..with three or sometimes four headers in a row? This is almost unseen in the Premiership games but the Phoenix seem to get into it regularly.

love the basketball comparison.
The two players have quality and heart, but don't know if they would make the grade. If they are that good, lets hope some Aussie clubs pick them up.
And yes, the quality of the A-League is not as good as the Premiership. Hard to compare it to a young salary capped league though

you mean nzpower is right!! :D I brought this up a week ago and was told to shut up!!
Sure, we need a CF but hey, Hayne seems good enough to make the step! Sign him I say! :D

Totori is greeeeedy. Krishna! But he doesn't offer the big target man role, so unlikely.

Don't think either of those has ever been a reason for not throwing opinions around in here
Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Smeltz was rotting at Halifax and became a great player. Hayne is a regular for the fifth best team in the world (lol) so basically it boils down to the following: Halifax vs Auckland City. If Auckland win then Hayne's good enough.
...perhaps not.

Van Dijk has scored 24 goals in 42 games for Brisbane, we should have a serious look at him. That's a better record than Smeltz had here.
And he has got 11 assists in those games. Would be awesome over here.

I seriously doubt he would come here but if there is a chance we should jump on it, of course, and i'm sure Tony P etc. have already tried.

I wonder who Greenacre would want signed? Probably Calvin Zola or the like. (James Constable looks like the budget version, but the Conference might be stooping a bit too low.)

Potentially quality player: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Odafe_Onyeka_Okolie
Could be very wrong, that stat. And the I-League is somewhat poor. Some chap mentioned there's a heap of talent in Goa, India. Anyone know anything else about this?
It made me have a bit of a look at the I-League, though.
EDIT: Didn't realize he (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kayne_Vincent) had moved to the I-League.

I'd be absolutley stoked if we signed someone from Goa. I think football is the most popular sport in that area (Very strong Portuguese influence).

Very correct, Oska. Goa is the smallest state in India, and a former Portuguese colony (Vindaloo is from Goa and is a bit of a Portuguese and Indian blend). Its right up with Bengal as the best Footballing state, having 4 of the I-League teams based there, and another 2 in the second division.
I have ancestors from Goa, so a Goan footballer is very welcome at the Nix in my eyes.
