Butter Chicken pies.... from the BP

Grumpy old bastard alert

Thinking about our predicament, we need a targetman type striker. What if we find ourselves more of a targetman playmaker. A classic number 10. who is lanky enough to be a bit of a target but still has the skill and ability to unlock defenses. The likes of Ronaldinho, Zidane, Kaka are all quite big and were we to find someone of similar build and vision it could really complete the team..

ok I've got no names, but i'm hoping someone has ideas?

Talking of strikers, how about Chad Coombes?

The 26 year old is getting big wraps from his Ak City coach and being talked about as an AW prospect for SA.

Someone the Nix should be pursuing? Ever been trialled by the club. Worth revisiting?

Sergio VAN DIJK!

How come everyone throws around ridiculous and random names when there's a guy off contract at the end of the season who is exactly what you've just described and is actually PROVEN in the A-League.. Can anyone say MARQUEE? Would need a serious offer to come here I think. Some may say he's not worth marquee status and maybe just looking at him maybe he's not, but what his signing would bring to the team overall I think would definitely be worth spending the marquee spot on him. His signing would basically complete our team. Ifill could then drop back to being the creative attacking midfielder that we know he's great at, with Van Dijk and Greenacre up front.

exactly. Van Dijk is the man i was thinking bout too. He surely is worth of Marquee in my eyes. But if we couldn't get him then we need to get a similar type of player.
I think every club will want Sergio

Agreed but which ones would be willing to offer him marquee?

Why are people so worried about offering Van Dijk marquee.

Marquee dosn't mean you have to go spend millions and get a Robbie Fowler..  It's just a way to pay a player outside the cap. And we havn't got a marquee at the moment, so why not offer him some good money to come over here. He's still young from memory.. 26?

From Thailand, might be worth keeping an eye on are Anon Sangsanoi (striker, 25yrs, BEC Tero Sasana

Anon has been top scorer in the Thai Premier league for the last two seasons 20  and 18 goals (30 match seasons). According to Wikipedia, he's scored 51 goals in 79 appearances. He was top scorer with 6 goals in 5 games (he only played 4) at the 2007 South East Asian Games (u-23 squads). He was also top scorer in Thai Division 1 for one (possibly two) seasons before signing with BEC. He's only had a few games for the national team - Wiki says 3 caps (1 goal), and the source quted by wiki has 6 caps (0 goals).

Personally, I haven't seen much of this guy, having only returned to Thailand this year, but some of the stats caught my eye, and I though he might be worth a mention.
Just an update on Anon. According to Football Siam, his contract is up this month. He is currently on 50-70 000 THB/month (NZ$2-3000) and after becoming the first player to win back-to-back Golden Boots, wants to double this. If I understand correctly, he wants to be paid on par with the import players. He's negotiating with BEC Tero, and at least 6 other Thai teams are sniffing around if things fall through. He seems to want to stay, but accepts that moving is part of a footballers lot, and seems to have an eye on saving for his future.
There's a brief mention of foreign clubs, but no names mentioned or (I think) any current interest.

You can't lump Chinese and Thais together, totally different mentalities (likewise Japanese and Koreans). The Thais have been OK if not fantastic for Melbourne and the Koreans in the league are all OK.

ITS TRUE! They just want the chance to play alongside Tony Lochhead and they now realise that since hes not leaving then the only way theyll do that is by coming here. And due to the salary cap theyve agreed to play for minimum wage to fit under it.

Seriously,watch this space.
