Phoenix vs Adelaide in Christchurch

Just heard on the radio here in Ch-Ch that they have sold 8000 tickets as of yesterday, and the guy who was on (BDM for VBase, the company who run the Stadium) said they were hoping for 10k.

Weather supposed to be 'showers developing during the day and south-westerly (cold) change...

Hopefully lots of Yellow and black being worn around town on Fri and Sat.

Really enjoyed seeing it in Palmy during the day and on the way to the ring of dirt.

Starting to feel annoyed that we aren't down there, but I'm sure you Mainlanders will be shouting and singing almost as good as us Greater Wellingtonians!

More likely to be overrun with criticism if u r trying to flick on a "free ticket" which was what the ones for Palmy and CHCH effectively were for season ticket holders.

A small town in Europe........looking to bounce straight back up....well that aint going to happen

Yes i can confirm coming from Christchurch that there is alot less cultural diversity down here than in Welly or Auckland. Hence why the people here hold more prejudices.

Hmmm...what's Costa done wrong?

Why Ricki chose to field the slowest team possible against a fast Melbourne team who knows.

Was anyone convinced Diego was the goods?

How Diego got ahead of Caceres, Bertos, Daniel and Costa is a bit of a mystery. Daniel might have even been a better option at left back, who knows.

Bugger me, is that all?  A number of people have said something like a whole stand has sold out, a stand that holds 13 000 people, so more than likely 13 000 plus a few more had sold.  How's that for disappointing.

I thought, in glimpses, Diego actually showed what he is clearly capable of. Unfortunately, for the other 85 minutes, he was the same lazy ......er he has been the whole season.

Worst signing of the season by a country mile - far worse than Chen - he cost us bugger all, was a shorter term loan and at least gave it his best shot.

Diego was supposed to be the answer to our play maker prayers and now we're stuck with him for another year - waste of $s and, probably more importantly, a wasted import slot.

I don't mind  players who give it their best shot and come up short (e.g. Christie, Chen, Ferrante etc) but lazy ....ers ........

We should cause an 'accident' so as to free up the import slot.

Note: anyone without a sense of humour should note that I'm joking and that I would never harm a Phoenix player past or present.

Except perhaps Elrich.

Because there are questions about Caceres's ability to last the full 90,Bertos hase been in hibernation mode since the world cup Qualifier and and apart from one decent back heel Costa hasn't exactly set the hills on fire either.
Im'm not suggesting Diego is the" goods "but Ricky  has to try something to re-invigorate the team!

He said the Deans Stand Lower Bowl has sold out, and they had opened up the Upper area, and would look at opening the Tui stand is need be too...

I thought some of the talk on here about 20k was waaaayyyy off the mark...

wouldn't mind if Leckie was missing, hes going to go far if he can keep progressing at the rate he has this season

My recollection is Adelaide also had a depleted squad when we drew with them at the RoF earlier in the season.

Their recent form is better than ours - they looked a lot better against Melbourne than we did.

I think, with the "normal" back four restored, no Diego and, hopefully Caceres and / or Bertos starting, we'll win - but far from confident.

It's a shame Owusu is away trialling in China. Otherwise we might have seen...

Leckie makes a great run from the middle of the park
Leckie skips around <insert Nix defender>
Leckie just keeps the ball in and centres it towards Owusu who has lumbered into the box
Reddy gathers the ball
Reddy kicks the ball back to middle of the park
<insert Nix midfielder> wins ball and passes forward to Ifill
Owusu, in the Nix box, realises that Leckie had passed to him.

In that order.

Instead the danger is that whichever youngster Viddie has to play instead might have a half decent game trying to impress for an ACL starting spot.

The difference between G** & Elrich is that Elrich actually scored a goal for us. And what a pearler it was. his only redeeming feature.

Owusu, Alemao, Cassio and Cristiano aren't much of a loss for them. Owusu's pitiful, the other three are just slackers there to collect their pay cheque.

They'll miss Rudan - not that I rate him especially highly but he is an important part of their defence with a lot of experience. Dodd and Leckie will be the main dangers. Dodd seems to have finally found some balls but way too late to help Adelaide this season.

I suppose the real disappointment with that injury list is that no fan will be able to shout out "watch Cassio!"
Permalink Permalink

I rate Cassio heaps. When we got thumped 6-1 or something a couple of years back he totally owned us. One bad aspect of Cassio is that he's got a bit of a temper, and his average games outnumber his great performances. But when he's playing well it's hard to stop him.
All the others whom StopOut mentioned are an absolute waste of space. I can't believe Owusu is getting a trial in China!!!!

LG, are you down in Chch for the game?

Any word on Lochhead, if he's fit and ready?  And now we've established that Diego is useless is there any chance, with Lia out and all, of seeing Ferrante/Mulligan on the bench?

EDIT:  Good point Valeo, but our response to free-kicks in Melbourne is the worst I've ever seen them.  Never have they been nearly that bad.

I hope Adelaide sign Malik Buari short-term to take their free-kicks.  He's actually worse than me at free-kicks.  One after another bang into the wall at about knee height.

I do hope that there is a good sized crowd and that ChCh is a happy hunting ground for the nix.

While I'd prefer all home games @RoF, if there is one in ChCh next season I'll try and get in early for cheap airfares for the family.

There is something to be said for travelling to other places and seeing lots of yellow and black all around (even the ring of dirt...shudder).

I don't go into town much as it's a bit of a hike from my place, but when we take a day trip in you always see at least one person wearing a Phoenix shirt down here. Probably going to be a few more wearing them by tomorrow. I don't have a top myself but do have a Nix cap.

Christchurch weather tomorrow still looks like an average Wellington day
