I see where Clarke is coming from... I have a few mates that can see the value in a $160 season ticket but almost a third of that for one game is different. I hope we can get 15k for this that would be good imo

Pre-season game? It has nothing to do with the A-League season.

A pre-season game is Brisbane Roar on Saturday, where you trial randoms to see if they fit with the team.

Boca Juniors is a gala game, an event. It's LA Galaxy, just a different time of year.

I would expect the Phoenix to be putting out their best squad to play Boca, regardless of who Boca have available.
Truly one of the great clubs of world football. Still have some great players- hope Martin Palermo, Boca's all-time record goal-scorer will play. Was in Argentina's World Cup squad but didn't appear, so maybe means more chance of him touring with Boca. Boca's all-time top-scorers:
  1. Martn Palermo (1997~2001; 2004~present) 222 goals <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
  2. Roberto Cherro (1926~1938) 221 goals
  3. Francisco Varallo (1931~1939) 194 goals
  4. Domingo Tarasconi (1922~1932) 193 goals
  5. Jaime Sarlanga (1940~1948) 128 goals
  6. Mario Boy (1941~1949; 1955) 124 goals
  7. Delfn Bentez Cceres (1932~1938) 115 goals

Also a great player is former international                            Int.  App.  10 MF Juan Romn Riquelme 24 June 1978 (aged 32) 69 Former Clubs: Villarreal, Barcelonawho, with Palermo I remember seeing playing in Spain on ESPN about 5  years ago. Following returning to Boca, he went on to play a significant part in Boca's success in the 2007 Libertadores Cup, scoring against Club Atltico Vlez Srsfield in the round of 16, Club Libertad in the quarter finals and Ccuta Deportivo in the semis, earning Boca a place in the finals. In the first leg of the final against Grmio Foot-Ball Porto Alegrense, Riquelme scored a goal, adding two more in the return, crowning Boca champions. He also won the award for the competition's Most Valuable Player. With Riquelme, Boca made the semis twice in the following two seasons. (The Libertadores Cup is South America's equivalent of the Champion's League.)

Some other current Boca players have also played a few games for Argentina:
DF Fabin Monzn April 13, 1987 (1987-04-13) (age 23) 4 0 Boca Juniors
MF Sebastin Battaglia November 8, 1980 (1980-11-08) (age 29) 10 0 Boca Juniors

Unfortunately, it seems Boca's two Paraguay World Cup team players have left Boca (probably signed by Euro clubs after doing well in World Cup.) namely, Julio Csar Cceres (2008~2010) and Claudio Morel Rodrguez (2004~2010)

I've got 3 of us coming down from Auckland to join a group of Welly mates. Agree tickets could have been cheaper, but no one complained when I told them how much they were.

Buying tickets on Mon...can't wait for my first experience IN the Fever Zone. Finally my Retro Ricki will be worn where it deserves to be!

LOL I just watched the Boca vs Palmeiras game and the commentators said Boca is going to Auckland next XD I wonder if the players themselves know where they are going....

Anyway I will be at the game with 3 others, all of us coming from out of town ^^

team didn't have Riquelme, Palermo or Medel but still beat Palmeiras 2-0.....

Luchetti (Javier Garcia), Muoz, Cellay e Insaurralde; Marn, Mndez, Erbes (Nicols Gonzalez) e Monzn; Caete (Colazo); Mouche (Srgio Arajo) e Viatri (Blandi).

Yes but, aside from a few football fans, the general public wouldn't appreciate that. $50 for a team theyve never heard of in a game with no meaning,a definite no thanks. As you can see,I'm pessimistic about getting a massive crowd  would loved to be proven wrong however.

Wearing my RR in Hawaii I saw a group of people wearing Boca home and away shirts. I gave them a brief smile and walked off.

I wonder if they thought "we're playing you guys" in return?

Are there any of the PDF / A4 flyers we can print out and leave anywhere?

Good question, I haven't seen any A4 posters available from the Phoenix site for download.

I'm trying to get as many people together as possible to come down from Hamilton and Auckland. Most are RoF virgins. Hopefully I can drag down a dozen people.

Let's hope we can at least get around 25,000 to justify Boca making the trip.

Lucas Viatri is meant to be pretty special.

I saw Boca play in Buenos Aires about five years ago and they were then an excellent footballing team.  The Argentine league is a definite step up over the A-League (as you might guess from seeing the number of players going straight from the league to the top European leagues) and you notice the difference in terms of technical ability, awareness of team mates, speed of thinking, quality of passing and so on.  The atmosphere is something else as well!  For an exhibition match I suppose it won't be so obvious but it is still worth going to I believe.

Apparently no loss for the Phoenix in any scenario - they get a match fee and some takings, in return for marketing and organising the match. Singapore based firm backing it all.

6500 is not bad for pre-sales- what was the pre-sales for the semi-final match where we seated 24,000 on the day? (PHX v Glory)

Quick search suggests there were around 13000 tickets pre-sold for the 24,000  who came to that semi-final

Was that tickets? Or PAX?

I think there might be a subtle difference between the two.

yes, i mean PAX, and the actual attendance figure. Co-relation to tickets sold is unknown. zonknz2010-07-13 14:07:29

Just bought a ticket over the phone. Had to call back and ask for the PAX but the lady on the other end sounded as though I'd asked her what the meaning of life was and just hummed and then said she didn't know what it was and that she couldn't access it. Disappointing Ticketek... Very disappointing.

This is a great coup for NZ Football and for the Phoenix and shows how far the Nix have come. Many people in New Zealand probably don't realise the size and stature of Boca. This is huge for the Phoenix.

I think you are dreaming. Boca will show us where we would like to be.

Boca website claims they're playing the Nix in Auckland!

http://www.bocajuniors.com.ar/noticias/2010/07/13/sabias-que
