NBR providing so many lols

Perhaps YF should have an end of season award for 'best' journalism.  DP for sheer volume and NBR in one article for outright quality.

Also like Doloras I would like to see my post (follows) quoted in the next high-brow article (maybe Footpaul could oblige):

1. Are we in fact just weeks away from the Phoenix being wound up?  You certainly wouldn't have thought so from anything that been said by Terry or anyone else around tyhe club.  Certainly we knew his businesses were in trouble but why the club, a very small loss making part of it should be such a weight has never been explained.  If that was the case then I think the supporters should know, and deserve to know, what is and has been going on.  Not being able to see accounts is a massive problem

Why should Terry have to open up his private accounts? He owns the team and indeed the team would never have even existed if it were't for him. It is not like he came and took over a long standing club with plenty of history.

I don't think he owes anyone anything (well he clearly does, but you know what I am saying).

Because it's a football club and not a business??  I'm not asking to see each players contract but general financial statements for the football club should be presented to supporters, it's absolutely standard practice all over the world.  NZ has some of the most lax financial reporting standards for private companies in the world.  Put it this way, why shouldn't we know the details of how the club operates, we fund it (partly) through going to matches, buying merch, buying sky subscriptions etc
Is this the cue for me to step in?  I actually don't agree, private company, private owner, up to him what he tells us.

I'll be up front, I'm sick of reading some of the press having their cheap shots at Terry. I dont mind investigative journalism asking the probing questions but a lot of what is read is speculation, opinion and then to read MB users on here quoted frankly smells of journalism equivalent to that of NOTW, The Nationa Enquirer, The Sunday News, The Truth and other such informative outlets. Good grief, NBR are you losing readers and going down the sensationalist direction?

Terry might not be the Mr Squeaky clean. A lot of Millionaires are not. Thats how they got to be Millionaires - by playing and bending the rules as much as they can to get that edge to win. Paying their bills late and i've even heard of some whom ship their profits, savings off shore just before tax time. Now there's a surprise!

It's just pissing me off, the negativity. And even some on this site have short term memories. Terry fronted up with the majority of the money to get this club up and running. Certiain personal references towards Terry have really bugged me. If you thinks he's that bad, front up with the money yourself and do a better job.

This site and fan base would not even exist if it wasn't for the man. Again, ask the honest probing questions for sure. But to refer to him as some have, in derogirtory terms in print, I hope he sues your arses off as much as he sues the NBR.

I am not blindly loyal but do have some respect for what he has done and has expressed what he wants to do. He is no fool, he plays his cards close to his chest. So does every other Millionaire busniessman.

Piney asked a good question last night about whether or not Terry thought it was worth it, putting up with the crap. Good question and Terry did not shy from the answer. He has more courage than some for sure.
Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

Completely agree. Any paper will to print this gutter/tabloid journalism shouldn't be taken seriously. I can't believe the NBR editor allowed that last story nor the nigerian analogy to be printed.

Screw you, NBR journos, why do my witty remarks never get picked up as the basis for a half-assed tabloid news story?

But seriously: let us be absolutely clear that many rich people in this country (the NBR-reading crowd) and many Wellington businesspeople (the Doom Post reading crowd) hate Terry, from a mixture of being burned in business dealings, snobbery, and outright racism. Therefore we should see these vendettas and deliberately doom-mongering stories as par for the course, and not get worried about them.
!00% agree Dolaras.

Huge amount of tall poppy stuff going on here. Terrys fault is is that he is percieved as an upstart Greek boy who is flashy with his money. The business establishment hate him for that.

If he had been another of the big business private school b*m chums, gone to the right school, belonged to the Wellersley Club....yachted at the Port Nick club then this would have been a different story.
I could imagine how different it would have been.
Over a G&T at the Club.
Terry.." I say old chap....having a few difficulties in the old financials at the moment...mind keeping a bit on the quiet side"
Editor of the DoomPost...." No problems...old boy...mums the word. Now about that round of golf next week?"

Terry has got up the nose of the establishment. They are taking every opportunity to slap him down.

As for the NBR quoting bloggers to this site....good grief. Is that how low journalism has sunk to in this country. You could take a selection of posts to confirm or deny any angle.

Has the YF got any legal rights regarding other media outlets uplifting content without prior approval?
THe fact that the NBR used a small selection of opinions to support their sleazy story makes me sick.

Err... 'ang on a moment:

If I have it right, you're saying that the anti-Serepisos stories in the NBR & DP are not shoddy or spiteful journalism.  Instead, these are representative of the broader sentiments of big business - and as such, are nothing to worry about?

We'd really be living in a fool's paradise if we didn't believe that Terry had made a squadron of enemies - some from his own dodgy dealings, some out of snobbery and racism. It's not just that he pissed off Dave Burgess, Phil Kitchen and Jonathan Millmow. But that doesn't mean any of the stories are necessarily true.

I briefly thought about that last part zinidane.

But came to the conclusion that as long as the forum is open to the public I.e you can view it without logging in,then there is no way to make people agree to any sort of confidentiality (what is said on forum stays on forum).

Think of it like the recent problems with sportsmens twitter accounts. They've chosen to air their views on a public forum.

If however the journalists take quotes as official statements from yellow fever as a whole then they could be in trouble. Also if they falsely attribute a quote or view to an individual.

But at the moment they're just saying "x said this and y said that" which is all quite clearly true.

Allegedly

Just catching up on some of this thread.

I actually thought that Feverish has faked that NBR report as a laugh because it seemed so implausible.

I can't quite believe they actually printed that. And we thought the Dom Post was bad.

OK.  I just don't take, "the club's owner isn't that bad, he just has many powerful enemies" as a source of comfort.

YMMV.

It's okay, though - Ali Syed is a Leverage-style "Robin Hood" con artist and all the proceeds of the fraud will be going to starving glazing contractors whom Terry ripped off.
