Alternatively, Transfermarkt says that this guy has played a lot under Kalezic - not a big guy, but a guy who has goals under his belt and could be uncontracted (can't see if he's signed a new deal).

Other than that, seems like a pretty decent forward. Able to play on the left wing too

No reference to Fenton?  Do we know what his status is?

I spent a lot of money on booze, birds and fast cars. The rest I just squandered.

So have 442.au got access to signed contracts or are they going off fan forums?

Most other clubs are including a list of contracted players when they announce a signing, for some reason we seem to be bucking that trend.

The A-League has Fenton listed as contracted

http://www.a-league.com.au/article/hyundai-a-league-contracted-list-club-by-club-guide/a76rg1ke9vv21xej6s9fnyozt

But that isn't 100% official because it says this at the bottom.

*Note - list is based on reports and information available. Best efforts have been made to ensure it is accurate as possible.

I'm really disappointed with the club regarding off-contract players.

Like him or not, a player like Vinnie deserves a proper, official send-off announcement and thank-you. I get the feeling if Adelaide signs him, that's when there will be an official statement released by the club. Then there's the whole mystery over Fenton's contract...

I'm sure Fenton was included in a list of signed players at the time Parecki was announced

I hope that Kalezic tries to make Fenton a winger again. None of this RB nonsense

I hope that Kalezic tries to make Watson a Central league player again.

So they did, I withdrawal my comment about them not posting the contracted players on player signing articles like other clubs.

Current Wellington Phoenix Squad:

Goalkeepers: Lewis Italiano, Oliver Sail

Midfielders: Gui Finkler, Michael McGlinchey, Sarpreet Singh, Matt Ridenton, Goran Paracki, Alex Rufer, James McGarry

Forwards: Roy Krishna, Adam Parkhouse, Logan Rogerson, Hamish Watson

There's no mystery. He's signed and the club have said that in squad lists published.

EDIT: Oh look, it's even been posted here! Serves me right for not scrolling down.

Injured players stay on in the Squad after contract expires. Insurance covers wage.

I hope Kalezic encourages Fenton to go to university and to look for a career outside of football.

Fenton and Parkhouse are very similar for me - neither are great defensively, so poor full backs, and neither are  A-League quality level wingers either; so where exactly do they fit?

I find Fenton's treatment really unfair and feel genuinely sorry for him.  A guy just breaking into pro-football gets converted to a completely different position, to which he is quite unsuited, because the club won't actually go out and sign a player in that position.  Fine to try Leo there, he wasn't an A-League level winger any more but Louis was just starting his career and he ends up filling in purely because we didn't put our squad together properly.  He is still being listed as a defender which just doesn't seem right to me

I kinda agree, but that is professional football and happens all over the world - many, many wingers have been converted to FB successfully. If he was a good enough player (and maybe received better coaching), then perhaps he could've come through that and turned into a top level full back. Alas, injuries haven't helped at all, and he's basically back at square one.

We have way more deadweight players in this squad than Fenton.

I gotta get me parkhouse' agent, dude was trash from the start and still managed to get a deal.

Yeah agree, my main beef was he got stuck there because the club didn't sign a proper right back, not because he showed a particular aptitude for defending.  Basically the conversation seemed to start with "we need someone to play right back".

100% agreed. Most bizarre re-signing of the off season; Lowry is up there too.

Disagree on Parkhouse looking trash all season. Thought he looked decent as a LW the couple of times he was actually played there.

He was terrible at LB though and was saved from being responsible for a shark ton of goals conceded only by Rossi basically playing two positions at once

Parkhouse can cross a ball decently every now and then, but doesn't seem to be able to

  1. Beat his marker
  2. Outpace his marker

For me, those are pretty important requirements for most wingers..

didnt he get an extension before playing wing though? abysmal at the start, average bench player by the end.

Chris James has left Colorado Springs. I know it's unlikely but would love to see him in a Nix shirt.

I still think we are short of several positions if we are going to challenge for anything this season

James has played DM for NZ and played well. I actually think he's played further back in the midfield in recent years. I would be keen to have a look at him, just in level of injuries is a concern.

Re: Parkhouse and Fenton. I don't think either of them should be regular starting A League wingers. But I do think we have a squad of 23 and we need backup for every sppot on the pitch and I think these guys can do that job - time off the bench and the occasional start to cover injuries etc.

i'd take James on the cheap. Certainly wouldnt be a starter like he could have been a few years ago but as squad depth he would be a good experienced signing.

Permalink Permalink

yep agree - he could start in midfield and move WeeMac to the wing then we only need a visa striker to have a decent starting 11.

does James offer more than a Ridenton? I think id rather offer Ridenton more game time that sign James
