that's 8 more home games than we get but I get the point.

Point is that a Phoenix season ticket would cost about $500 NZD less than that even with 18 home games.

18 home games would be nice though...one day maybe.

To put it in perspective, a season ticket at Hibs (SPL) is approx $800 NZD for 18 home games.

Or a Bayern Munich season ticket is around NZ$200... all that tells me is that Hibs fans are getting ripped off too, not that our tickets are cheap

Our season pass is really cheap, so you are right there is no excuse. Does help that we don't have many games in Wellington mind you!

I completely agree that the SPL is a rip off...just comparing because if I was there, I'd likely be paying that!

As for Bayern, yes their cheapest I believe is about $200, though I think they also go to much more expensive levels.  Of course, in Bayern's case they get about 65,000 a week, and the TV money.

I compare the A-League to the SPL because I believe the standard in general is not too far apart though there are of course many differences.

I thought there was no excuse until I went over to the fixtures thread and remembered the 7pm Sunday games!

Yeah I know that for obvious reasons  Bayern are in no way comparable to the Nix, but I just think there's something a little silly about the fact that you could get a season ticket there which would be more games and vastly superior football in a packed stadium for near to the same price as a season ticket for the Nix in the A league in a stadium that's less than a quarter full.
I've thought for ages that it's odd that they don't cut ticket prices to get more people through the gate. At a real basic level if you halved the ticket price and got double the attendance then the gross income would be the same but the atmosphere would be better and you might create more hardcore fans to buy merchandise, and you can charge more for sponsorship deals because you have a larger market for the sponsors to tap into. The relationship between price and demand won't be linear like that obviously, but I still think that significantly lower ticket prices could be part of a viable business model.

Season tickets might be cheap but don forget your not a member of the Phoenix according to the club unless you also fork out for member ship which then makes our 10 homes a little more expensive.

Would you be happy if they included in $60 for membership in everyones season passes, making the cheapest season ticket $230?

I'm with 2B on this.  Didn't take up the club membership last year, won't take it up this season.  Doesn't make me feel any less of a fan.

I suppose if I did become a club member I could feel entitled to shout abuse at the team if they are performing poorly?

I fail to see why a person who stumps up more cash for a season ticket ($169 was it) is not a member but someone like me who stumps up $60, is......? Thats very backwards.

It should be one price. What you get for that extra $50.... I couldn't tell you but I doubt its much.

Decent point. I actually doubt a season pass with 'membership' included would necessarily up the price to $230.

Were season tickets not about $275 a couple of years back?

Correct. Season passes are much more affordable now, and making the "member" thing an optional add-on rather than compulsory for all season pass holder makes the tickets even more affordable.

In saying that, however, the club really needs to work out what they want the Club Membership to be. Do they want it to be aimed at out-of-towners, giving them all the benefits of being a season pass holder just without access to the games, or do they want it to be aimed at season pass holder, giving them extra benefits? At the moment it is very unclear who it is supposed to be aimed at.

The question is why does it cost $60 to be a member, I don't really see any additional associated costs that they need to cover - isn't it better that you make all season ticket holders members anyway and try and engage everyone to be more active fans??  Just not quite sure about the strategy here...

As you say it's a little confusing who it is aimed at

On Bayern, they can offer $200 season tickets because they subsidise them with massive corporate income and corporate facilities - not comparable for us

Normo's coming home

I did always assume (and am sure it was actually the case) that season pass holders were members, and the 'club membership' option was more for out of towners etc, who can't/dont want to buy a season pass, but still wants to contribute and be a member of the club.

This wouldn't add the $60 onto current season pass pricing. If this isn't the case, it certainly should be. Having season pass holders not being considered members of the club is a bit of a slap in the face.

doesn't really matter what the club considers them though, as a foundation member - which my pass states I get to go all home games plus the away from home home games, along with invites to things during the season. I'm happy with that.

What they should do is not call it "club membership" and call it a "thundersticks kit" or something similar - it's exclusive against ST holders as mentioned above.

They're all types of club m/ship, as people are choosing to spend their hard earned "entertainment" dollars on the club - they should be equally recognised as being so irrespective of the members situation/budget.

agree with you there surge, change the name to reflect what it actually is......my foundation member season pass is just that, the "club member" is a different thin all together.

How about:
  • Foundation
  • Tightwads
  • Plastics
  • Coal face

- Foundation

- Burners (those whom regularly frequent the RoF)

- Murderers (those who've relocated outta Welly - crap, that woulda been me!)

- Plastics (just want a scarf and a fridge magnet).

Put me down for Plastic then (saw myself more as a tightwad, but a shiny fridge magnet trumps most things except a season pin).

This. When it was called the 'Benchwarmer' pass everyone knew exactly what it was.

Agreed - I had one in season 1 when I was in Brisneyland... made me feel valued and a part of "my" club even though I'd contributed to the assasination of Wellington (according to our PM).

The A-League is not ready to expand anywhere at the moment, even in places that are desperately crying out for a team. The league will expand into these places well before Auckland gets another shot at an A-League side, and since there's not going to be any expansion in the next 3-4 years, Auckland would be at least 6-7 years away from getting another shot at it.

Heres a riddle for you: If an Auckland A-league side play at an empty stadium and nobody was there to watch it, did they even play?

Your still missing the point, why should someone who forks out $60 get privileges that arnt extended to those who have been here from the start or have brought a season pass.
Could understand if club memberships  were aimed at those living outside Wellington, just not sure why you have to buy both a season pass and a club membership to be considered a club member.
Maybe foundation should be renamed Terrys Mob and the new memberships The Welnix Few.Does seem at times they dont care that much for those who have been here from the start.

All Club Members got was an extra set of goodies and a ticket. The AGM never happened and by all accounts the 'members only' website on Friendface was a joke. As for the special events? Yeah they didn't happen either.

I got both a season pass and a club membership last season. I don't feel any more privileged than someone who didn't buy the club membership. Just as I don't feel those who are Foundation Members are any better than my support. I just saw it as helping out the club a bit more because I could afford to do so.

I agree they need to clarify who it is aimed at. The impression I always had, was that they added the 'Club Membership' option as an extra way to support the club in addition to getting the season pass. It was there for those that were willing and able to put more money into the club. It also allowed those who were out of town to support the club, without having to buy a season ticket. The confusion is just a side effect of the shambles of a marketing effort last season had.

The club membership is just a sort of swap for the benchwarmer innit?

ignore that - I just read the top of the page

The only reason I bought the Club Membership last year for $50 is that as well as the free stuff (I like the badges and stuff!),  I got a ticket to an away game that I'd only have ended up paying around A$30 for anyway! :-D

Hopefully this year it will be clear what away games the tickets will be valid for (if the deal is similar). Last season, CCM wasn't included in whatever list they had (and didn't share with those buying the Membership) for away games - but the club scored me a ticket after realising they probably should have provided more info in the first place....

For the record, I hate Sunday games and am very disappointed with the draw, but will absolutely unquestionably retain my Foundation membership.....

I like having a Club Membership, even though it doesn't give me any further privileges than the old Benchwarmer membership. It shows that the club cares about those of us who (through economic necessity or otherwise) don't live in Welly right now.

I'm not sure I get the angst. A season ticket means you come to all the games. A club membership means you consider yourself "on the Phoenix train" and have a stake in the future of the club. They're not quite the same thing, so it's good IMHO that they're separated.
