On the defender thing, I think I read something about Dodd
being a Right Defender (or at least capable), anyone able to
confirm or deny if he has experience there? If so, and we get
Durante and Sigmund, they could be our starting CBs with Rees as
cover.
I think Dodd would be a fairly defensive minded RB, ie not
with the same attacking skills as Lochhead on the other side but
otherwise I reckon he'd be fine. Probably has just enough
pace to take care of most attackers and has the brains and
positioning to make up for that little bit of pace he may
lack.
eh? please for the love of all things sacred no. for a start, as
much as being a defender is part of a right backs game, he's also a
winger much how lochhead plays in a 442, its his job to get up the
field and get in the vital crosses while on attack then sprint back
to get to defence, Dodd wouldnt do that as u say, it wouldnt be
balanced.
and also, why the hell would u be willing yet again to put someone
out of position???? we have a season behind us, a very long time to
scout, why the heck cant we actually get a first team right-back
whos been playing there his whole life? in a nutshell, this isnt
football manager, and u can't just chuck a defender out of
position, as it looks like u realise how different RB and CB are,
we have been punished for it before, y do it again?
Calm down mate, that's why i was asking if anyone knew if he
had experience there.
I honestly don't think it would matter that he isn't an
attacking minded player like Lochhead, afterall, defence has got to
be a RB's first job, and i was just saying he could fill that
role. You could then just taylor your tactics to suit the
rest of the team. For example you would have Lochhead and
Daniel in tandem on the left and Elrich (assuming he did his usual
wing role) and one of the midfielders/strikers in more support on
the right.
Just as you don't want to play people out of position, each
position is not 100% clearly defined. Each has some
flexibility and it's about the coach designing tactics that work
best for the players/formation he has. I was just saying if
we sign two defenders (Sigmund and Durante), plus an attacker
(Phillips or whoever to play with Smeltz), maybe they see Dodd as a
RB (or able cover), because they mightn't have room to sign another
RB.
Anyway, I reckon O'dor will probably go (not necessarily my
preference), as he has had no game time at all, and if we signed
even one more CB he would drop down to about 5th choice.
Or on a complete tangent, maybe Ricki has given up on using
4-4-2, so we'd have Sigmund, Durante, Dodd back 3 in the usual
3-5-2.
