It's a very special pod this week, out now on http://yellowfever.co.nz/podcasts and in your podcast app.
Vince Lia joins us during his testimonial week, we talk with him about the 3-3 draw up in Auckland against Perth and his testimonal match and dinner this weekend. The pod fire some insightful (but mostly amusing) questions Vinnie's way, and round up the SS Prem action from a weekend where Auckland City claimed top spot in the league.
****pendant alert**** it was Kiwi Clayton Lewis that scored the winner (and gave them the minor premiership and qualification to the 2018 OCL) for Auckland City not Emilano Tade
also there is no way Tasman v Southern can be the wooden spoon decider as Tasman are on 14 points and have 2 games left, while Southern are on 10 points with 1 game left. It did look like this game would be the wooden spoon decider but since Tasman changed coaches they have come good. If Southern beat Tasman and Weenix beat Wanderers, then Hamilton will finish bottom
and before you blame this on not having Patrick's run sheet he probably would have got that wrong as well! but I'll forgive you (not sure for what) if you get Patrick to try and pronounce the Swedish team that Cam seemingly did well with!
Anyway you made up for it with the German guy's story (which you should have given more time to)

Hate to pedant a pedant, but it was definitely Tade who scored the winner (see: https://youtu.be/rgglJ8P5Nxk?t=2m38s). Also, for Wanderers to finish bottom, they also have to lose to Hawke's Bay next weekend.
Yeah I really shouldn't post stuff at 3:38am (especially when I've been drinking)
I feel like Patrick trying to take the p out of Kevin Fallon for his word of the week and mispronouncing the word! :-)

We have Phoenix head coach Des Buckingham joining us on this weeks episode. Send through your questions for him (be nice)!
Who won the go-karting in the weekend? (The squad had a race on the weekend off)
What's the dynamic like coaching players that are older than yourself?
What's the atmosphere like among the club as they fight for the top six?
Where has been your favourite city/stadium (in NZ or Australia) you've travelled to this season and why? (Other than Wellington, Westpac of course)
If we can make Westpac a fortress again should we call it Buckingham Palace?
How much contact do you have with other A League coaches? Have any of them been helpful?
Oi Oi Edgecumbe... lets have a clean sheet
What is Plan B ?
As a name for the coaching duo, does he prefer Greeningham or Buckacre?
Which area of our play/tactics/squad do think we need to improve first to be a top 2 side?
Follow up question - how will you go about making us a top 2 side?
If you could get anyone you wanted as a marquee player, who would you choose?
Oi Oi Edgecumbe... lets have a clean sheet
As per Vinnie's chant and the discussion in the last pod. Would someone with more nous than myself be interested in doing something similar to the below but with a team of Vinnie Lias?
Results might vary...
Here is the line-up as it features in my editor right now. I have just booted up the game, will run a season on Holiday and see what happens....Then I might jump in and play a few games with extended highlights just to show what he plays like across the park.
The latest episode of Phoenix City is out now on http://yellowfever.co.nz/podcasts and in your podcast app of choice!
Patrick's away again, so we pull out the big guns and invite Des Buckingham onto the pod to chat Oxford, the Phoenix, and whether or not he's single. Tracey Hodge also joins us to chat about #VinniesTesty, the All Whites squad for Fiji, the Football Ferns in Cyprus and TeeDubs marching towards the SS Prem playoffs.

Tracey is going to talk about Vinnie's Testy? The left one or the right one?
Grumpy old bastard alert
It was okay to listen to, it was just a little disorganised and a couple of the people on lacked a little bit of confidence in front of a mic.
Also, some of the questions to Des were soft.
Not a big deal, and things like being more assertive and confident only improves with experience. We also didn't do much to help with the questions to Des on this thread.
I'm sure most on here would have done a lot worse.

Always have to be careful when discussing things with club members. Trying to weigh up good questions without putting the club in a difficult spot would be tough. There may also have been caveats around what could/couldn't be talked about. If you ask stuff that is too on point there is a chance that the club will stop people coming on, and I'm pretty sure everyone wants that to keep happening
Tracey's first time, so she gets a pass, and as Cam pointed out last week, hosting is not easy if you haven't done it before. I thought Dave was decent. Familiarity and confidence breeds good banter, and having Tracey and Des on their first times, with Dave hosting for the first time probably was probably why it sounded disorganised.
TBH, I thought they all did a decent job under the circumstances

Not sure why the questions should be hard. It's a pretty informal chit chat with the pod crew generally and when they have guests so why expect hard hitting, deep and meaningful's?
When guests talk about their background is always interesting, why they do what they do and their passion for it.
wasnt the best pod, but thats not to bad considering its been going a few years. A small blip. Next week it'll be back on form.

Well, maybe not hard but not really on point. As I said the community didn't help, I only mentioned anything because it was asked.
No game to discuss, half the pod away and me hosting at the last minute.
It was never going to be the best pod but I'd much rather we put out something "ok" than just skip a week.
Patrick is by the far the best host of the lot but sadly when it comes to volunteering time for no return other things will come first at times.
That said I thought Des was bloody interesting - answered in much detail about many things. just becasue he is staff doesn't mean having a chance to talk to him needs to be some bloodletting session where we throw him under the bus.

Obviously you have to be sensible. Ask questions that are to close to the bone like what players are you getting rid of and that will be the end of guest spots from the club

My criticism is mainly you can't have a person on a football podcast that says 'I have zero to offer' and 'whats your favourite movie?' Its a football podcast, even its its something, anything, anything stupid thats football related rather than 'i have zero'.
I don't accept that because its last min that you get a pass. If you walk into a football podcast, you know you are going to have to talk football. If you can't do that, don't accept.
People are going to say thats harsh but its not like this is the very 1st time anyone has heard the fever podcast and don't understand how it works.

FYI Custom Cutz is owned by some football lovers including Antony Buick-Constable who was a mighty fine player in his day (and still is)

Sure, and even if those sorts of questions were offered up, it's up to the pod crew to ask them as well! And can totally see why some topics might not be brought up.
It's great that they're able to get so many different people on the pod regularly (it's not that I don't enjoy listening to the regular contingent, but special guests are better).
There's a fine line between an interview basically being a puff piece and an interview basically stopping us from getting guests ever again.
Whilst I wasn't there for this one, I think that if the Nix were doing well on the table, we'd have been able to ask more specific footballing questions and not have it come across as kicking a man while he's down.

You know people are volunteering their time to do this for free, right?
Real quick....not sure "are you single?" Is a football question. Nor is "beard tips" and I didn't ask those ones so fudge it
