v Gold Coast United - GAME ON

The Knights had to operate under the same restrictions.

Fixture congestion, potential travel issues for us, cost of the promotions around this weekend.  The media impact of a small crowd at a midweek game.  The implications are widespread for this.

I'd hope the club would tell the FFA to pay for the costs from this weekend, refund tickets and throw the gates open for any re-scheduled match.

PHOENIX WANT GOLD COAST GAME TO GO AHEAD

Wellington Phoenix are keen for their Hyundai A-League game against Gold Coast United to go ahead at Westpac Stadium on Sunday, despite Football Federation Australia today revoking Gold Coasts licence.

The FFA issued Gold Coast United FC Pty Ltd with a notice of termination following material breaches of the Club Participation agreement that governs the conduct of all clubs in the Hyundai A-League.

Phoenix chairman Rob Morrison said the club was working with the FFA to explore every avenue possible to ensure the game is played as scheduled.

Why could they not just revoke the licence at the end of the season. G.C were never going to make the finals, so why not do it after the last game of the season ?

I guess they had to respond to Big Clive in some way, rather than just let him keep taking potshots for the rest of the season.

Or at least done it immediately following a game so they have enough time to not create this sh*te.

True, but seems silly to to me to start this sort of sh*t so late in a season. All the media will be on the soon to be ongoing court case rather than an A-League finals series which we will no doubt feature heavily in

feel sorry for the G.C players and fans

Noooo Nooooo.......

Don't pull this game..please. The FFA have got this wrong IMO. THey should have waited for another 3 weeks until the seasons end. Then nobody would have noticed GC disappearing off the planet. If they postphone this game it F**ks up the entire run towards the finals. Even if they do reschedule, when would we have to play it?. We are already booked to stay in Melbourne for the week between the two games there. We will be enormously disadvantaged by not playing them this weekend.

Hopefully common sense prevails...but the team would normally be arriving here in a few days. Its hard to imagine them sorting out individual contracts etc in such a short time span.

What a mess......sure hope the Nix boys in Auckland can focus on the job in hand.

Only 2 options I can think of, is Wednesday next week, or the Wednesday before the final game.

Are Jamaica or Saudi Arabia doing anything this weekend? I want a game this weekend

On that table, they have removed all points from Gold Coast games, so each team gets 0.

I would take a Phoenix vs Saudi Arabia game in an instant. Would be interesting to see if we can beat an international team

Yes, I too hope that the game goes ahead, it will be hard times for those players in the Gold Coast team,. Lets hope that the FFA will let them play the season out like what happened with the Knights.

So what will happen to people who have pre bought their tickets? I've also bought a bus ticket from Palmy but it can be changed as long as I change it more than 24 hours before departure.

Just let the game go ahead please.

damn! i want all of my four!!! of my potential last doses of home football for this season

the off-season is hell and whilst the last 2 of the 4 aren't guaranteed both of the 2 regular season games should be!!

i refer the a-league bosses to the Geneva convention!

this is surely illegal under international law and certainly inhumane!!

FFA are a joke. This will be two franchises axed in two seasons. Makes you wonder what kind of muppet is doing the research on expansion. Really shouldve pushed for that West Sydney franchise. At this rate nobodies ever going to want to take on a new A-League license.

Well it could so easily have been 3. Thankfully not.
I think the 2 cases of the Fury and GCU are quite different and not all on the FFA. In the case of GCU - it really is  Palmer (who gives fat cat mining fu*ks a bad name) to blame.  The complete lack of fans is all the proof you need.  If the FFA hadn't responded they'd have no self-respect at all. So they are not a joke although not above criticism.

They should have chosen a suitable location as well as sourcing a rich bar steward to run it. Playing in front of such low fan numbers is not optimal even if fat clive was prepared to carry on indefinitely. And when he's not, because his team start to lose, the team implodes immediately.

I've got a feeling Canbera will be better than another Sydney team but I don't really understand the demographics. Will West Sydney siders not go to bling games? They don't really get enough fans to justify having a second team, seems somewhere between chucking one on the gold coast and a second one in Melbourne. Neither are close to being sustainable. If Auckland or Christchurch wanted a team now would be a good time to put the hand up.rjmiller2012-03-01 08:27:54

Not as simple as that though, he was going to take them anyway and at some stage the FFA had to make a stand instead of just folding (like they have to CLive every other time).

Bitch we're caught in it but hopefully it's a precedent that the FFA will start making actual decisions.

There is no doubt that Palmer wanted out, so he knew if he kept baiting the FFA they would have to respond. i'm not sure the FFA have got their timing right. By dumping him out before the seasons end they are open to a legal challenge. There have been reports in the Oz press that Palmer has been talking about court injunction to hold precedings.
The worse outcome now would be an injunction that would block any chance of the FFA running GC for the rest of the season. The FFA would then have to decide what to do with the points. Plus there would be many clubs really pissed off due to loss of potential gate takings etc. If the FFa had waited 3 weeks before dumping GC then they could have avoided this mess expanding and impacting on the other clubs.

As an aside...OK, Palmer  is an obnoxious egomaniac but a some of his points about the FFA need looking at. For example how come the senior executives  at the FFA are getting paid twice what the eqivalent guys at the NRL are on?
